New Pikeville Player
#61
A Blessing & A Curse Wrote:Well I hate to sound to cliche but, Paintsville just has to much talent. I just don't think Pikeville can beat them plain and simple. Paintsville is to fundamentally solid and play old school basketball. Pikeville just won't do it. I think this year we will all finally see the great Paintsville basketball team that these boys have definitely been capable of being.

Paintsville should have been the best team in this region for the last three years. What have they done? First round exits in the regions. They have the same team this coming year that they have had the last three years. Paintsville also forfeited a game this summer to Pikeville so they wouldnt have to play them. Go ahead and say summer ball doesnt mean anything. But if it really doesnt, why didnt they play?

But a better question would be, what does Paintsville have to do with this thread?

Oh, no summer ball does mean something but, saying that BMR is scared to play a team is straight up ridiculous. But, I do know for the last three years something Paintsville has done... Beat Pikeville! And guess what buddy... They only lost one player who really didn't do that much! So before you go and start playing the Paintsville is always the favorite card, think about how many times Pikeville was a factor in their first round of region losses.

So that's why I say Pikeville WILL NOT beat Paintsville...

All I said about it was Paintsville forfeited a game this summer. If you want to use the scared word, that is your choice. I do think there was a reason they didnt play. I dont think it is the word you used though.

I also dont think you watched any summer ball this year. If you did, you would know that your team has many more problems than not being the dominate team that they was expected to be. Read some other posts from people who have watched games and know something about them. I would be surprised if next years rankings for the 15th if Paintsville is above the number 3 team in the region.

Oh, what's so wrong with Paintsville? The only thing I've heard was that Blake Bundy made the all-star team at the very prestigous blue chip camp.

If you didn't mean that they were scared that's sure as hell what it sounded like. I'm sure paintsville will be fine and ofcourse, will yet again crush Pikeville.

To get back on topic, I guess even if Pikeville does get their new player, it wont be enough to get past a first round exit of the regions team.

It's be a long while since camp... Any new news yet? With every day it seems more and more unlikely..

I would have to disagree with that statement, I doubt Paintsville forfeited a game because they didn't want to play Pikeville. Again, it's summer ball, in a few months nobody will even remember who won what over the summer.

That said, I do agree with you that Pikeville should be the better team this year. They have one of the best coaches around, and are a talented group that really seemed to put it all together by the end of the year last season. I think preseason rankings in the region should be Paintsville at #3 and Pikeville at #2 (would put them at #1 if they get the new guy).

There will be a big gap between the top 3 teams and the rest of the region (unless Belfry is suppose to be any good, I haven't heard anything about them). Hope the SV Pikeville series will be one to remember!:letsparty

We hear this crap every year and the same old thing happens.....Paintsville chokes. Pikeville pretty much returns all five starters. With another year of develooment from some good coaches I know they will be much improved.

Maybe the 3rd time's a charm for the Tigers, hope so anyway. I'm a Paintsville fan, alumni and played for Paintsville, I love Paintsville basketball. I'm not gonna get on here and praise these boys and talk about how great they are gonna be because honestly, you never know with this bunch. They COULD be great if they would play as a team and get their minds right. Pikeville is gonna be tough with or without the new guy like I said earlier. They got everyone back and judgin by the summer tape, the Adams boy has improved 100% from last year. Had he played like that against Valley in the region championship Pikeville woulda won IMO. Valley has everyone back. Paintsville has everyone back but Ferguson. We'll just have to wait and see who shows up to play and who doesn't when it counts the most.

Good post...this is what everyone on here forgets...summer talk doesn't mean anything!

I agree. Talk about how well a team played in summer doesn't mean anything when the games start for real. Only after seeing some of these teams in action in games that count will we know just how good everybody really is...

It would be something if Pikeville got this player.
#74
Back on topic guys. Paintsville is NOT a part of this thread. Thanks.
#75
I look for Pikeville to be the 2nd best team in the region this year.
#76
Has this player enrolled in Pikeville?
#77
I am 99.9% sure that he is not enrolled at Pikeville.
#78
Nope, he isnt there.

So did his mon take a job somewhere else or is it still possible he may come later in the year?

If they get the new player then I think that shoots them up easily to #1. However, if they don't (which it sounds like they didn't get him) they will be a solid #2 behind Valley. And I might even say that they would be tied with Paintsville for #2.

I like these posts because someone would rate someone higher because of a player they have not seen play. Pikeville would have been a better team if he had showed up, just the same as they would be a better team if they got a 6'4" solid power forward. He might be a 3 star recruit, but he wasnt the best post player at the transy camp when he played with Pikeville that day. My take after meeting him and the people that was there with him is he wanted to go to a school where he would have been the superstar on the team. That wouldnt have happened at Pikeville. He would have played, and done pretty good, but he wouldnt have been the superstar of the team.

So you disagree that Pikeville would I have been a better team with a player of that caliber? I don't really see a team getting significantly worse by getting a well established player. You are right, I have not seen the guy play in person but if he is a 3 star recruit that should mean that what ever team he plays for should be better.

I dont disagree that they would have been a better team if he had come to school here. I just said that the day that he played with Pikeville that he wasnt the best player in the camp that day. I really dont think he was the best player on Pikevilles team.

Well of course he would rate Pikeville higher if they got the new guy, why wouldn't he? Any team around here that adds a player of his caliber would instantly become a better team, I don't care who they are.

Scotty may not have seen him in person, but the guy didn't get rated a 3-star recruit for nothing. Most of us don't get to watch every top high school recruit in person, but that doesn't mean we can't assume that they are good from the ratings. For example, have you seen Alex Legion play? I haven't, but I feel pretty confident saying UK will be a better team next year with him than they would've been without him.

Im beginning to think this kid is an urban legend LOL!

I think someone on here, it might actually be Basketballonlyfan had a video that was on youtube. It was the kid playing with them in Lexington or something. But yeah you are right, this rumor dropped off the face of the earth a couple months back.

Pikeville has no real "superstar". So why wouldn't this three star recruit be able to come in and be that "superstar"? He would be the only D-1 player on the floor for the majority of the games. He would make them a better and deeper team than they would have had without him. That being said, Pikeville is still going to be a helluva team this year in the 15th region. I expect a lot out of them this year. Everyone alos needs to quit even thinking about this kid and concentrate on what we have right here right now. That is a 6'9" center who is getting better every year and will be a junior. They also have a slew of returning guards that have tons of experience. Tim Honaker, Matt Clevinger, Jordan Bell, Daniel Harmon, and a freshman who saw plenty of game action named Gatlin Clark. You could start any of those five and still have a decent team IMO. Outside of the big man Pikeville doesn't have a lot of size. But that speed could be a dangerous counter strike to the lack of size.
