Only 250 people are allowed to go at over 100 bucks a ticket so I'm out, but have fun

Well it was 100 bucks to actually be in the room but recently I got an email that stated that they were putting the speech up on the big screens in the arena for 2 bucks a ticket.

Anyways, I just got back from listening and I must say the more and more I hear him speak the more excited I am about next season. He talked for about 20 minutes about the power of God in his life and his faith through the years. Well worth the 2 bucks to hear him talk.

I figured that he would still come out to see the crowd for at least a wave or something. How many paid the 2 bucks? Around how many were in there?

No many at all. In the arena they had some basketball games going on and after they stopped the teams and their parents left which took the total out in the arena to maybe 10 ... kind of disappointing but yeah the Expo center sent out the information really late.

The news express and Williamson Daily both had some nice articles on the event. Barnhart impressed me with his speach.

Same here. I never picked him to be a deeply religion man but hey that is fantastic in a position like his.

Gillispie himself even made some kind of reference to Barnhart's 'preaching' when he took the podium after the AD was finished. I think it's great that someone in his position isn't afraid to share his faith with others, but I bet there were some in the banquet room (who had paid their money mainly to see Billy Clyde) who were probably pretty ticked about Barnhart going on for so long.

That is true. I probably would be ticked if I paid 100-150 dollars to heard UK AD talk 65% of the time. With that aside I did enjoy the content of his speech.

I know someone personally who was there, and he said several people in the room were getting irritated with Barnhart.

LOL!!!! That is good. I bet they where leaning over to their friends saying " I paid 100 dollars to eat crappy food from Savor Pikeville and listen Mitch Barnheart for 35 minutes?"

Actually, now that you mention it, the same guy did say the food sucked, too.

My girlfriend and I went to a party in one of the banquet rooms there at the expo. Savor Pikeville catered and it was like finger foods!! Not only that but it sucked and I could make better ham sandwhichs at my house! So, yeah I would believe your friend when he said that the food sucked.
#16
Gillispie was funny, but as far as speaking he was just kind of their. I could have listened to Barnhart a little longer, I loved the story he told about witnessing to his professor.
I think the food is bad their also. I have ate there quiet a bit and havent taseted to much I like haha.

Apparently, after Gillespie spoke he took questions, and someone asked if UK would ever play a game in the Expo Center! Smile

I like our new building as much as the next guy, but come on! Rupp holds over 3 times as many people as the Expo, UK would lose all kinds of money by doing that. Was that guy serious or just goofing around?

BTW, if it was somebody on here that was there and asked the question, sorry about the Smile

Even though UK would lose alot of money it would still be the best thing that could come tothe expo center. It would sell out, people would pay just to be in the arena..and I think that it would just be pretty dang cool. How cool would it be to say that in the fall I would drive from Lexington to my hometown to see them play. It won't happen but i can dream though..

BCG really did not say UK would not do it he said i don"t think we can because of how many games on a neutral site you are allowed by NCAA.

I thought Barnhart speech was great also.

If I remember correctly he said that it was "highly unlikely." If that is coming from CBC you can pretty much bet that they won't do it anytime soon.

Especially when they could just have the game 150 miles up the road in Rupp and make probably triple the profit. Also as a side note UK has no business recruiting in this area right now. My brother had a good point the other day about the Houston game @ Houston this coming season. He said, "at first I could not figure it out why they would play a home and home with Houston but it is obvious now... for recruiting in Texas!"

Back to the topic, that is just another reason for UK not to come to this area when a thrid of the fans that would be at the expo would be right in rupp to watch them anyways.
#22
Yeah he said it was a long shot, which in our terms means it aint happening. And as nice as it would be for all fans around here, it wouldn't be a wise move for the University. But hey atleast the guy gave it a effort.
#23
UK will never play a regular-season game in the Expo Center. Remember, up until a couple years ago, UK played an annual 'home' game in Cincinnati, which is a much larger market for the UK brand to stay visible in. Yet, they still canceled that game in order to have another one in Rupp, which brings in much more money. If they aren't going to have a game in Cincinnati, they're not going to have one in Pikeville.

The people that paid $125 were told they were there to see Barnhart and Gillispie and it was a fundraiser for the Eastern Kentucky Fellowship of Christian Athletes!!!

What did you think you would hear??? Last comic standing???
The whole purpose of the luncheon was to raise money and awareness and to speak to the supporters of FCA.

No, no.. I believe more cowbell meant that the people probably wanted to hear Gillispe talk for a while instead of Barnheart.

Dude, I know what the money was being raised for. That still doesn't change the fact that some people went to the banquet only to hear Billy Clyde speak (trust me, I know several people who went). I bet if you asked each person there if they would rather have heard Gillespie talk for longer than Barnhart, you know what the answer will be.

Incidentally, I love the fact that Barnhart is so willing to share his faith. I was in FCA myself when I was in high school, and I think it's great they could get such high-profile speakers to come in. But no way would the tickets have been such a hot item if the speaker was some Joe Schmoe.

What would tix have cost if it were Tubby???

Poor, poor Tubby.
More than likely the same price since it was a fundraiser.

I can tell you after listening to both, Gillispie was a right but I would have much rather heard Barnhart. I think it was pre planned that way because Barnhart had a much deeper root and knowledge about FCA. Judging by Gilispie coments, he is religios so to say, but not devoted to God the way he should be, he even said he should go to church and trust God a lot more. So I think why you heard Barnhart speak was his knowledge of the FCA, which was what the fund raiser was about, and Gilispie just basicaly said a couple good things bout it then told jokes, which he was a good speaker, very funny.

All of the jokes about his past marriage had me in stiches. He actually said "If text messaging would have been around when he was married, he would have been able to check in without having to talk to her." That is great stuff!! I love our coach.Cool
