Grand March Opinions Please
#1
I went to Johnson Central's Grand March tonight and to my and everyone elses surprise they were charging a $2 per person admission. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I mean, MY GOD, People just spent a fortune on dresses and tuxs and now you have to pay to see your kid go through the Grand March? I myself felt that this was an insult and rediculous. Am I the only person that feels this way or what? Please, tell me.

That is one of the craziest things I have ever heard of in my life. To charge for Grand March? Does anyone know why they would actually charge?

JC has charged admission to the Grand March for years, the junior class of the following year recieves the money to spend on the next years prom.

Well, they will say it was for Project Prom. But, They have NEVER charged for it before and have always had sponsors. The only thing I can think of, is a chance to make a $. People were shocked tonight, when they reached the entrance.

Funny how people were entering and saying that they have never seen anything like it in their life. I still fell it is an insult to the parents of the kids involved. One of the last things they will see their kids do while in Highschool and they get charged for it. Next thing is charging for Gaduation. lol

They have charged for the last 5 years that I know of, I'm not sure if they charged before 2003.

Well, I'm sorry. But, I don't agree. I watched so many people have to return to their vehicles tonight to get their wallets and purses. They should figure out another way to raise money instead of this. We survived back in our days and they can today.

Apparently they've not been to JC's Grand March since 2003, either my wife or myself have been every year since 2003 and we have paid each and every year, now I personally don't agree with them charging admission, but I never took it as an insult when my child was involved. It's not like it was $10 or $20 dollars per person, the price of admission was $2 dollars, less than a sporting event, less that a pack of cigarettes or a hamburger at a restaurant. I think the main thing is it's being used for the kids.

Well, myself and 7 other members of the family went. So that is $14. Yes it is an insult. After you spend Money on a dress or tux, invitations (if needed), flowers, shoes, hair styles, dinners, pictures. Well over $500 for most females. Almost every couple spends well over $1000, then you ask their parents to still pay to see them for about 2 minutes. It's wrong.

I think that is ridiculous. We don't even have a grand march. Everyone just stands around outside and talks and takes pictures of the prom-goers....lots and lots of pictures. I bet there were a thousand people outside at Hazard's prom. It was packed. When it starts getting dark you can watch them as they go inside to the prom.

I agree. We did what you guys did for our prom.We had to buy tickets to get into prom which went to the Jr. class and as Jr.s we sold OrangesSmile

Agreed. There are other options besides admission.

I guess they have to come up with some $ to finish paying for those football class rings from last year.

Paying admission for Grand March is absolutely the craziest thing I have ever heard of. I have never heard of a school charging for that before. When I was in high school our grand march stage was set up outside and you walked across before going in the door to prom and everyone could see you and for free. Granted I never walked at grand march, I always perfectly manged to arrive just as it was over. Serouisally, a school needs to think of better ways to raise money, when I was a junior we had to sell suckers and everyone had a certain number they had to sell and if you didn't sell then you didnt get to go to prom that year as a junior since that meant less money to decorate.
