Betsy Layne
#1
Who do you think will be the coach of the Betsy Layne Bobcats? Do you think Coach Rose will be back or will they have a new coach?
#2
I don't believe Coach Rose returning is an option. As an adminsitrator he is no longer eligible to coach (based on Floyd County Board of Educations rule).
#3
Yeah Rose's coaching days are over.

Correct. Brent Rose can no longer hold the position of head coach due to the new rules voted on by the BOE. I think it's unjust. There should've been some kind of "grandfathering" of the rule and what I mean is that the rule would stand for anyone else trying to hold both positions in the future, but those who were already in that position before the rule would be exempt until they left their current coaching position. JMO.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone who is already at Betsy Layne gain the position of head coach for next year.
#5
So who's the coaches that will be in for the run for the position?
#6
Harold Tackett perhaps??
#7
can't go wrong with Coach Tackett the guy just wins!!
Did hear some other schools are interested in him...Hope he stays at Betsy Lane!

I think that the Bobcats will win the district,no matter who is the coach, AC has just lost to much to repeat, SF didnt have a good year this year and with their two best players graduating and really no one coming up to help them, they should be last in the district, And Pburg can win any game if Jordan Hall gets hott. It should be out of the Bobcats and the Blackcats next year.

I'm pulling for the Bobcats in 08. They lost two of their starters, but they have two boys in Newman and BB to step up in those spots. Newman should have started last year anyways, there might be politics involved with that, but thats a different story. Anyways I pick BL to win it, Pburg to take 2nd, AC in 3rd and SF in 4th. My top players are:

1.) Jared Newman-BL
2.) Josh Prater-AC
3.) Alex Hammond-AC
4.) Bobby Hughes-Pburg
5.) Brenan Case- BL
6.) Jordan Hall- Pburg
7.) Adam Slone- SF

These are the only ones that come to my mind worth mentioning! JMO

Guys the last thing that you want at BL is Tackett as a head coach...BUt who all is up for the postion?
#11
yup, they will be a new coach coming

It is possible that Betsy Layne may get a different coach for next season however they still have Coach Rose in that spot. The SBDM can seek a waiver to have Rose remain as coach and that has to be presented to the Board for approval. If Rose was wanting to leave then no problem however he has given every indication that he would like to be back and they should be pretty good next year with one of the better point guards in the region back along with the big kid underneath. Betsy Layne is a pretty good job for someone to have and there will be several coaches from across the area that probably will be interested if Rose was to leave.

It would interesting to see if the SBDM approvals the waiver and the BOE doesn't weigh in on the situation.

What grade is Newman going to be in next year?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Senior.

I heard they were looking at some guy from Jackson?
#17
brian hall would make a great choice!
#18
Is that the one from Jackson?
#19
I think it is, Brian Hall coached Jackson City last season after a stint at Breathitt County.
#20
That name sounds like that's what I heard. So it may be him. Do you know if he has any Betsy Layne roots?
#21
I dont think he has any Betsy Layne roots, I could be wrong on that though. If im not mistaken, his dad is named David Hall and he taught for a long time in Floyd County and coached at McDowell Elementary.

Brian is originally from the Price/Hi Hat area. He's a great guy and in talking with him last season when the Tigers played Allen Central, he said he was dying to return home and I would say Betsy Layne is close enough.

The Newman kid could get a free ticket through college if he works hard in the off season and develops and gets in better shape. He could be the best college prospect in the 15th region other than Landon Slone, due to his size and his body. He's definitly top 10 and could be a top 4-5 player in the region if he has a strong summer. Who can stop him in the interior next season??

I've been told this was Newman's first year in organized basketball. If so- then WOW what could he have been? He improved everytime I saw BLHS play this year. If he's willing to work hard in the off season he will make a big impact. I'd say the other 58th district teams will have to work really hard on him next season. He's got quite a few inches and pounds on the rest of the centers in the county.

Newman being 6'9 and Adams-Pikeville being 6'10 are the two biggest Centers in our region.
