whats a chip ?

It'll be between Paintsville and Shelby Valley all season long with Pikeville not far behind. I think after these three teams theres a huge gap after 3rd.

how many people did paintsville and valley loose
#6
Valley is still the clear cut favorite. Pikeville isn't too far behind.

I would bet on Shelby Valley winning the 15th in 07, I'm just not sure who will win in 08?

We'll i would say Valley for the next three years in Basketball in the region and one State Championship. If not 2.
#12
Its always any body game at any time during tournment play

State Championships are very hard to win, especially for teams from the 15th Region. You have to have skill, great coaching, and a little luck to help you along the way. I hope you are right, I would like to see another state championship come back to the mountains, especially the 15th Region. Will it happen? I am not sure, but whoever goes from the 15th, I'll be pulling for them!!!!

Valley doesnt have the inside game to win a state championship.
#15
first of all it is the championship in 08....and it way to early to decide n e of that...anything could happen between now and next season.

You definatley need that inside game to compete for a State Championship!!!
#17
The year Mason Co. won it in 03' I believe, they had no inside game, I think their tallest player was 6'3 or 6'4.
#18
Just because they werent really big didnt mean they didnt have an inside game, besides I Valley doesnt have a Lofton either. Valley's inside game is weak. Hatfield is soft and likes to play out on the court.
#19
I think right now, it will be between Shelby Valley, Paintsville, and Pikeville. I also think there will be a surprise team to show up at the end of the year that not many is expecting to do good for the season. To say there is a clinch for it is pushing it a little. Paintsville tends to choke come tourney time. Shelby Valley had a 3 point lead with a minute and a half to go in the championship game last season. Pikeville tends to go 3 or 4 minutes in a game where they play lost. I think the region winner next year will be determined just as much on the luck of the draw as it will the teams that are playing.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Shelby Valley has no chris lofton either

They had Chris Lofton and an 8th grade Darius Miller!

Breckinridge County won it in the 90s without much height at all, and really without any super D-I talents. They did it by playing smarter than everybody else. It is possible.

State championship = not happening

I could easily see them winning the region for the next 3 years (not saying that they will, just that they could easily do it). But to win some games at state they will have to get some good draws, like maybe the 1st or 12th regions.

were here discussing valley and how good they are and for all we know david is recruiting and practicing already and could break our ankles next year in the 15th.

David will need at three big stones!!!!!!!!!!

Generally I'm not one to go with the crowd.. but this time, I'm gonna have to go with the popular choice.. Valley. With players like the Justices, the Bryants, Ashley Hatfield, and Taylor Newsome, I have all the confidence in the world that they can make it to state the next three years.. and maybe even win some games. I don't know about a State Title... but anything is possible, I guess. All I know is that the young players are already outstanding.. and they're only going to improve with age.
Good luck next year boys.
I'll be at as many games as is possible, and hopefully, I'll be there to cheer you on at Rupp.

Valley could win region for the next three years but I loved the article that Bentley put in the Newsexpress right after they won it this year. Comparing how Valley is now and how Pike Central's lady Hawks have been. But, I do not see Valley winning a state championship it would be a big shock.
#28
It's no secret that the top teams from around here would have trouble beating the top schools down at state, such as Scott Co. or those from Louisville or Lexington. Not saying it couldn't happen, it would just take the game of their lives to do it.

I could very well see Valley becoming a dynasty in the 15th (close to that status already with 4 titles in 6 years) and win the region each of the next 3 years, and they still may not win a game at state unless they get a good draw. Just the way it is, and it makes what Paintsville did in the 90's even more impressive.

What about JCHS? Don't count them out. I'm sure Starns and his staff will have that team ready to play it's to good of a coach not to.

I agree with cardsville. I know everyone says they lost Jamie McCarty so they won't do anything but I believe with the pieces they return they'll be fine.

Jayrd Crum - One of the top guards in the region. Sees the floor very well and knows when he needs to shoot the ball. Can knock down open jump shots and can also take it to the cup.

Justin Murray - VERY VERY underrated IMO. Can shoot, drive and he is one of the top defenders in the region. When he is out of control, he can be a liablity but I believe if he can get that corrected then he could suprise alot of people.

Ian Welch - One of the top 3 post players in the region. Strong and athletic. Finishes well around the basket. He will only be a junior and he is only getting better as he matures.

Other players that may suprise many: Jo Whitaker, James Blankenship, Robert Smith, Nick Vance, Jeremy Stacy
