Johnson Central 07-08

How will they fare?

It is not looking good for the Eagles next year. Or any other team in the 57th next year. A lot of talent was lost besides Paintsville. They better win the 57th next year or these young men will disappoint a lot of people in Pville.

Hopefully Pville doesn't choke!

Smile You are right. Pville has had the same team for about 4 years now and every year they are thought to win the region but they have not even made it to the championship game. IMO I think Pville will be the best team in the region next year.

I look to see JC make it alright next year ive watched Justin murray and Ian welch play together and they are a blast to watch those boys with the help of others will dominate next year . Murray is a slasher and welch will work hard and put up what ever # he wants too the same thing with murray.

That is taking it a little to far. I don't think they will dominate next year and they neither one will put up whatever number they want. They will be good players yes but unless someone else steps up and helps them out I don't see JC doing much next year IMO.

Will Strans be back next year?

I agree he is taking it to far. It's obvious who he is and it's very obvious he's just trying to toot his own horn. I mean come on he's mentioned the same kid in six out of his first seven posts.

IMO If Coach Starns returns JC will be fine. The best coach in the 15th region by far although there isnt alot to compare him to. Coach Starns has his team ready for every game.

I personally am not a fan of Mark Starns and cant stand his attitude if they are going to get a new coach i wish they would hurry up and do so. Im sick of watching him carry around a piece of paper with plays on it. That is rediculus, He doesnt even know them without that play sheet and he expects his players to know them. This isnt boston college Mark go find a team that you can get some kids to actually come out and play for you. JC is one of the biggest schools on the eastern side of Kentucky and we cant get enough players to fill a roster. When players actually see how he is they quit.

Guys, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Let's not let this get out of hand.

well, well, If I were Coach Starns I would not be able to coach because of people like you. Bet you weren't complaining last year when they went to the state. Looks like it worked with that paper in hand then. Also there are players there that do not want to work hard enough to play for Coach Starns. Way to many parents wanting to coach as well. There is a reason that coach Starns has that job and not you.*This section edited due to content. PM sent to member.*

It sounds like an unhappy player that doesn't get his way. JC is a big school, but middle school is killing basketball, only sending five starters over to high school. I'm a huge JC fan and from my observations we hired Coach Starns to run the entire program from elementary and up, without any interference and we need to let him do it. We need to give Coach Starns the tools necessary to be successful, this program has never had big numbers out since conception of middle school.

Welch and Murray could be good basketball players, if they listen and do what Coach Starns ask them to do and play team basketball. We finally got a coach that has discipline and holds players accountable, that's why we hired him. I tell what's ridiculus is watching parents at JC over the years act the way they do. It was a problem this year with Welch and Murray, it was a crying shame to witness how those two Dad's acted.

Finally, Coach Starns and his staff should hand out walking papers early this summer to any player and parent who doesn't want to get on the same page. Players need to play and parents need to encourage, not destroy what there son is doing, if you don't like it don't play.

Starns took Les Trimble's boys to state, he didn't do anything great, they already were great. Last year's team just didn't play team ball period. When they did play team ball, they won.
#15
I see JC being right around the middle of the region, probabily around #'s 8-10.
#16
Welch(sp) is a descent player when he plays under control, I believe he's back.
#17
Welch, I thought many times during the season, was probably their best player during the games that I watched.

GRIZZ Wrote:Welch, I thought many times during the season, was probably their best player during the games that I watched.
He'll probably be their top returnig player. He's a tough defensive player and has some descent offensive skills. The flaw I see in his game is a tendancey to get out of control and commit needles fouls but besides that he's alright player.
#19
Eagleback, sounds like you really dislike coach Starns? Why? Has he done anything to you?

Yes we are entitled to our opinions here, however from the 14th region we hear no one wants to work hard or be disciplined by Coach Starns or the coaching staff.

Sorry Eagle Back, I misquoted you. BigEagle said Coach Starns won with Les' boys, then why didn't the go to state the first three years? Also, like SRS said, if eveyone who is not a coach all over the state would let coaches do their jobs and discipline accordingly, then coaching would be alot more fun for all the coaches.Smile

Cardsville, yes I did say that he won it with Les boy's. JC has alot of talent, Starnes is a good coach, but it's hard to come in from down state and win. Eastern Ky is totally different b-ball. I have said that Starnes and BMR are pretty equal. Really the only diiferences is BRM is from here. Starnes needs these boys to play as a TEAM. I honestly think that's is the only way to win. I also agree that parents should let the coach do his job.

And Starnes hasn't done anything great yet, simply because the boys have not bought into his style.

Welch is a good player, but he is not the best player that will be returning to the team next season. The Eagles have Jaryd Crum and Justin Murray also returning and they will be the Eagles bread & butter!! I also think that Robert Smith and Mike Conley will make a bigger impact than most people think. These four with the addittion of Welch could turn out to be something special in the 57th District as well as the 15th Region. The Eagles bench play should be alot better this year with help coming from Mikey Dale,Jermey Stacy, and Josiah Reno!!With all this said I think this group will fare alot better with coach Starns style of play and will play as a team unlike this past season squad did!!
#22
There is sure alot of talk about returning players . Have I missed something or has Joe Whitaker vanished. This kid was the best player on the floor for the Golden Eagles in the second half of their last game. By far the most unslefish player. He has more basketball savvy than anyother player. I sure do wish Starnes could see this. I don't know how the Eaglers will fare next year. I guess it just depends on what happens in the off-season. I don't think anyone knows what is going to happen with Starnes or even Ian Welch. If Sheldon CLark hires someone close to the Welch family I think Ian will be gone. I hope he stays because this kid is the best athlete in the REGION. Yes I said REGION.

I totalty forgot about Crum, seems like he's been playing Varsity basketball for 10 years lol..For some reason I thought he had graduated. Anyway that wasn't intential just slipped my mind.

Johnson Central will be average at best!!!!!!!
#26
IMO JC is one year away. Alot of young talent.
#27
I too think JC has ALOT of young talent and will be better in the near future, but they will be a tough out for anyone this coming year also. I don't see them making a serious run at the regional championship, but they could certainley have a solid year. Welch is an amazing athlete and will only get better. I think he will be the key to the Eagles success. Starns went through a tough season, but you never know if the blame should be shouldered by the coach, players, or both. I don't think he should be run out of town yet, but I also don't think there is any reason why the largest school in the 15th region should have only won 11 games with the talent they had.
#28
Amen to that, srs! I'm so sick of the parents trying to tell the coach how to coach. Leave the man alone and let him do his job. I for one don't want to see a bunch of "babies" out there getting mad everytime the coach takes them out of the game. If you can't get the job done then make way for someone who can and WILL!!
#29
I couldn't agree with you more!

You could not have said it better. He came in to an already made team- a great one at that!!
