Back from State Tournament
#1
Just got back and have to comment on the Shelby Valley and Elliot game. First off Elliot had good guard play and could really shoot the ball. With that being said I can honestly say that this was one of the oddest(some would say worst) called games I have ever seen. I've seen several state tourney games over the years and the refs usually get out of the way and say may the best team win. I'm not saying S.V. would have won but I really don't believe they were given the chance to prove they were the best team. But at the same time neither was Elliot was given that chance. Wasn't really a game at all.

Wow, someone who believes how I do, with all the fouls called, and almost half of Elliot's points being free throws, who can all them the better team?

i said something similar in the game thread.

I totally agree. It wasnt a game. You cant base anything on who should have won. The Lions prevailed regardless, and gl.

It the first half near midcourt Logan gets a tough body check changes direction and they call double dribble. Logan was stunned and I don't know where that call came from either. I guess it's so tough to see things from the refs angle and not mine.

The way the game was called was so over the top that people who here about it will think Valley fans are just sore losers. That's not the case. Who can blame those people though because I saw it first hand and have a hard time beleiving it myself

SV needs to quit whinning. What on earth would the refs have to gain by calling fouls on either team . Come on give me a break , you know ball better than that. Refs don't win or lose the game not at this level, maybe in the 15th . Get a grip your team won the region and be proud , how do you expect the boys to respect the outcome if the adults can't. Good job Shelby Valley and Elliott Co.

Why don't you just go back in time and ask other players what they had to gain by throwing a game, or ask the refs what good the money would do them to throw a game.

You're right , we do need to quit but this is a place to vent and I'm done venting.
It was a fun year Congrats to Scott Co. and all teams and players in the Sweeeeet 16. We'll be back.

are you trying to say that the game was throwed ?

Can you honestly say that a team that shot 36 more Free throws than we made didn't have some help?

I knew this was going to happen. SV plays rough and they depend on reaching and hacking. And tonight they were caught, and done it way to much. And BTW about the 36 more free throw shots. You are telling me that SV shot 8 free throws. I read that Elliot shot 44. Yea that may be a lot but when you can't stop the penetration what do you expect? Elliot beat SV a lot and SV tried to recover by reaching and hacking. SV is a decent team. I expected more from them than this.

yes they had help shelby valley fouled...and the way your post sounded like you was saying that valley throwed the game which is stupid

I in no way meant that Valley threw the game, And no, Valley didn't shoot 8 FT's. I'm saying, and I don't know the exact numbers, that Elliot shot 36 more free throws than Valley made. 32 of Elliot's points came from the FT line. That is not a good team, sorry but Valley was and still is the better team, Elliot could not rebound, every time we even tried to rebound we were called for a foul, you cannot play with a team if you're not allowed to move on the court without being called for a foul. Elisha Justice had 3 fouls on him. He plays the best defense in the region, maybe had at most 2 fouls called on him all year, and that night he gets 3? Ridiculous.

SV played like a grade school team.........Elliot was the better team on the court that night, " just my opinion " . Both teams are very young and talented, this will not be their last trip to rupp.......Good luck to both.

Dude the game is over so just let it go. SV played horrible, fouls or not they played like crap. IMO Elliot is the better team. Everyone of their players can shoot lights out. I expected way more from Valley. I watched the whole game and was rooting for Valley. Some calls may have been questionable but just let it go. Elliot playe their game and took it to Valley. Valley just reached to much and committed way to many cheap fouls.

Valley looked clueless and their offense was not a factor, plus Coach Mays did a better job of preparing his kids for the game than the Valley coach did! Good job both teams and good luck next year!!!!!

SV has played over 30 games this year, including several in out-of-the-area tournaments or in central Kentucky, and this is the first time they ever had a game called like this. Are you trying to say that every other game they played was not called correctly, and this was the only one that was? Anyone without a bias would have to say that this game was the aberration, not the rest of the season.

Although I thought there were at least a few very questionable calls in the game as someone who didn't have a dog in this fight I can honestly say that on this night the best team won the game and no officials calls determined the outcome of the game. If you wanted to see a badly officiated game then you should have hung around for the Championship Game. Several calls that were made by one official in particular started to make me think that maybe he thought we all came to see him..
Elliott Cty is certainly going to be an interesting team to keep track of the next few years and I hope to see them back at Rupp next year.
