Elliott Co. 68 - Shelby Valley 55

Different refs different game don't you think !

ComeFlyWithMe Wrote:There was one out of bounds called on Elisha where he was at least 3 feet from the damn line, don't make excuses for lame refs, and how is a team supposed to adjust to a game? A coach tells you "Don't play their game, play ours". Have you never played a sport, you don't adjust your game, SV's game is what got them to the Sweet 16, these refs sucked, plain and simple, quit taking up for them. If when Ashley is knocked to the ground and Elliot has a player hurt, and we don't get a foul called on that, Elliot should not have got the touch fouls called all night long. Ballard played a damn physical game, and the refs let them, they changed the way they wanted to call the games against SV.

:ChairHit:

Yes I have played sports and currently coach one at the Varsity level. If a ref or ump is making certain calls, YES you do adjust. If SV was allowed to handcheck in the 15th and was getting called for it, wouldn't it be a good idea to start playing defense with you feet instead of your hands? Like Coach Mays said in the paper, "when we do those things, we usually get fouls called on us too".

LOL, funny to see a varsity coach bickering with a high-school student.

What do you mean?

More than likely what everyone else has thought since the game started last night, the refs were paid off.

This is the dumbest statement yet. I was at the game and could care less who won .Shelby Valley got beat by a better team the fouls that were called were things that teams get by with in the 15th . they didnt play well simple as that they got beat on there press several times and they made some silly fouls . Why cant you just say good game Elliot and leave it at that you are basically calling these kids and Elliot Co. fans cheaters .You need to grow up and quit making accusations like that it really makes you look bad and the Shelby Valley fan base look bad.

That will be all of the accusations that will be tolerated in this thread. It is not for us to say so move on.

kentuckyfan1962 Wrote:I have been to every game. Every game has been physical except this one. If they had let SV play as physical as Ballard and some of those other teams, it would have been closer. Every time SV got on a run, Jacob picked up a foul and had to go to the bench, and they would struggle. But also, Elliott is better than I thought.

This game was horrible. Valley did not play defense. They would foul, and complain about it to the refs instead of getting down the floor. I understand they were discouraged, but I think that was a major part in their loss along with the fouls themselves - they thought they couldnt win if they were playing the refs and the Lions. You foul, move on, and play 100%. If you noticed Valley kept it at at 9-13 point deficate most of the second half. Notinhg to brag about I know, but that just means that Valley was keeping up with the Lions' charity points, and EC was not capitalizing on the chances they had from the floor (no matter how few chances they were). If the fouls hadnt got in their heads, it would have been a closer game, because Valley out preformed Elliot County away from the charity strip. Not making excuses - just something to think about.

And as for the officiating... it was horrible. I agree that Valley's defense was poor, but the game was simply called too tight. I agree Valley plays physical, but there is no way they fouled Elliot Co. so many times. I agree you have to adjust your game to the way the refs are calling. If they call a tight game, you play carefully. People are on here saying that they "got away" with these fouls at home with 15th region refs. Well they also "got away" with them against Warren Central in North Hardin with 5th region refs; against Bell Co., Corbin, Dorman, Belfry, Pikeville, and Betsy Layne with 13th region refs; against Hazard, Pineville, and Leslie Co. with 14th region refs; and against Dunbar with 11th region refs. I'm sorry, but I find it hard to agree with you that they had just been "getting away" with the fouls untill now, and that they had finally got the officiating that was coming to them. The game was simply called horrible. Plain and simple.

And I also cant agree that the better team won. I have no hard feelings, I congratulate the Lions wholeheartedly for winning. But I dont think Elliot Co. beat Valley - Valley beat themselves. You can say I have hard feelings and that I'm just making excuses all you want to, but with a game like this, I dont think you can say either team was "better". Elliot Co. may be ther better team, I'm not saying they are not, but I dont think you can judge anything on this game.

I was very impressed with the 8th grader for the Lions, not sure on his name though, seems to have slipped my mind.

Both these teams are young, and their futures looks bright.

Congrats EC. I dont mean and degregation toward you what so ever, and apolagize if you took it that way. Good luck against the Dragons tonight, which should have just started - lol.

Im not agging on any of these accusations or anything, and dont close this thread because of me or the reponse to it - haha.

But i was just curious as to what station are you talking about that is supposed have this report, if there is going to be one.

You can PM me if you like to try to keep this thread from closing, but I was jsut curious.

Well I just talked to Coach Booher and he has heard nothing of it. So if this is true please tell me so I can tell him.

Your team could have used some paid off refs.

HazzBeen Wrote:Your team could have used some paid off refs.

What team would that be??
#45
Like I said earlier, the refs let SV know early that we wasn't going to backtip. And as far as playing defense with your feet, all teams had check period. I can handle them calling it if they call it on both ends, didn't happen. Our boys are quick and can steal and refs assume fouls happen. We should have adjusted, we played all year with the most inconsistent refs in the state.

That makes a lot of sense, considering he was 9 of 12 from the field and dominated the game inside (when he was on the floor). Jake doesn't always do it pretty, but he is a really good player. There is no doubt that he is the scorer on the team (just look what happened when he was out of the game).

Congrats to Elliott. Valley was out of sync but they had a great season and shouldnt hang their heads.

Redneck hasn't been to many State tournaments I guess. They always let them play down there. The refs usually get out of the way.

31 of them???

Agreed this was the only game that the refs were calling picky fouls. But after a while figures SV would realize that and back off a little bit. Elliot took it to the whole and drawed the fouls. Its sad when people get on here and complain. Elliot was the better team. I was expecting a lot more from SV. I've seen them play 3 times this year and not once have they impressed me. If this is the best the 15th has to offer...I feel sorry for the 15th. SV was the worst team in the state tournament.

I wouldn't say the worst team in the state tourny, They had a bad game and it cost them.but watchin Elliot Co the other night. Well it didn't amaze me, im sure if Valley was full force then this game would belong to Valley by like 15 points. The refs were a big part of this game, that one reason why Valley got beat...IMO

I watched every game. And IMO I thought SV was the worst team. SV could not have beaten Elliot by 15. Out of all the teams i thoguht SV and Lincoln were the worst 2 teams. I have seen SV play a couple of times this year and it did not impress me. When the refs started calling the little fouls, SV should have backed off and stopped all the reaching and committing stupid fouls.

BTW what did the yard sale chant mean?
#58
I knew who was going to win this game. Almost everyone on here are from the 14th and 15th Regions, and the under estimate the power of the 16th Region. I know that alot of people are going to say the refs were on Elliott's side. The fact is the refs of the 15th Region will not calling anything and the 15th Regions teams can get by with murder, finally when you get good refs the wont tolerate the harsh play. Good job Elliott.
#59
The "Yard sale" chant is only used when someone falls for any reason

HazzBeen Wrote:You tell me....You always bash valley so you must be from around there somewhere.

No where near you all. I just think Valley fans are a joke and don't realize you aren't that good compared to other teams around the state.
