Elliott Co. 68 - Shelby Valley 55
#1
Final...

Sounded like EC got the calls in the 2nd half according to WDHR. At point in the 4th quarter, EC had converted only 4 FG's and still had a double-digit lead. EC got to the line and took advantage tonight.

Congrats Elliot Co. Keep your heads up Valley.
#3
Way to go Elliott County...
#4
EC shot 44 free throws...........
#5
Jacob Bryant - 18 points to lead SV

32-44 FT for EC...SV shot 14 total.

Johnathan Ferguson - 28 points for EC

I got a kick out of the comment earlier by the commentators that the players of the game were the 3 officials calling the contest.

Congrats to my COUSIN Tyler Maynard and the Elliott County Lions!!!!!!

I picked EC to pull it out. I just wasn't impressed with Valley at the region tourney and didn't feel that they could beat Elliott. As for the fouls and EC's free throws, I'm not suprised. I thought SV shoulda been called for ALOT more fouls in the region tourney, they are aggressive but a lil too aggressive at times. You don't get away with that stuff at Rupp like you do in the region tourney.
#8
Congrats Elliott Co! Keep your heads up Shelby Valley, your young and you will make another run next season.
#9
Way to go Elliott..congrats to the folks at Sandy Hook. Know this has to be exciting to the folks over there.

The earlier comments about the officiating and foul calls don't suprise me. SV plays physical--and the refs don't call that as much in the district or region (especially when it is played in Pike county, duh!) State tourney refs will call that holdin business a lot more.

Score also makes me think of Paintsville beating Elliott in the All A this yr. Oh well, would a, could a, should a.

Well, you gotta take it to the hole to get to the line. At least that is what everyone to Paintsville when they were complaining about the same thing. Guess the weak schedule showed in the end.Wink Good luck Elliott. Better be ready for the next one. Also, I agree with ya 100% Redneck!

Shelby Valley had 4 players foul out in this game and I think two other players had 4 fouls. It was a joke. Plain and simple.

A backtip is not a foul if you don't touch. Early in the 1ST 1/2 Logan had beautiful backtip when we were up 8 and the Ref called it , I think to let us know we wasn't going to do this tonite. After Jacob got 2nd foul the lead evaporated. I still love our cats win or lose.

fouls killed Valley tonight but that is just what happens. They now have to regroup and come back and be ready for next season, I for one am very disappointed in the out come not on Valley's part but the calls. We can all just be proud that we walked in there with pride and heart. Congrats Valley on making it to Rupp.

What weak schedule are you talking about? I don't call Corbin, Bell County, Warren Central, PLD, Pikeville, Dorman SC an easy schedule. I am so sick of hearing this. Well actually everyone quit after they scheduled WC but not you. That just shows how much you know.

Elliott County was the better team. The 16 Region was the better region. The best team won. Plain and simple.
#16
congrats to elliot, how did the falkner twins do any stats?

I heard from somebody courtside (who didn't have a rooting interest) that they were dumb fouls, plain and simple.

I watched the game and Valley just struggled to get things going all night. Their youth really showed. They will get another shot next year though and I look for a better showing.
#19
I have been to every game. Every game has been physical except this one. If they had let SV play as physical as Ballard and some of those other teams, it would have been closer. Every time SV got on a run, Jacob picked up a foul and had to go to the bench, and they would struggle. But also, Elliott is better than I thought.
#20
i was impressed with Bryant...
#21
They're growing some sour grapes in the Valley!
#22
correct me if im wrong but doesnt elliot start 5 sophomores?
#23
Yes. And plays younger boys off the bench.

Congrats Elliott Co. on the win. The players had no control over the refs, but as I understand it they were awful. We're proud of you Wildcats, hold your heads high.

Congrats to EC

Worst officiated game I have ever witnessed. These refs should be taken in front of the administration and never be allowed at the Sweet 16 again, 4 of your starters don't foul out and only 1 player on the other team have 4 fouls. This game was freaking ridiculous and I cannot believe the refs let it get out of hand, you could clearly see they had no intentions of letting Shelby Valley win this game. Valley would make a run and then the refs would call a foul. The one boy for Elliot that got hurt knocked Ashley to the ground, and there was no foul called. When Shelby Valley was trying to foul to stop the clock, the refs let 5 seconds run off, earlier in the game Valley didn't have to touch the refs and they were calling fouls left and right, horrible game, keep your heads up Valley, you were the better team. When 32 of a team's 68 points come from the charity stripe, you know something is up.

So the officials had something to gain by not "letting" SV win? Maybe they should call more fouls in the 15th! Someone from a different board said that SV could have been called for a foul almost every trip down the floor in the region. They got beat by a much better team. There is a reason Elliott was #9 and SV was #15 going into the game. Elliott went through a few wars in the 16th, which is much stronger than the 15th and it showed last night.

The kids should have adjusted to the way the game was being called, Elliott did. SV fouled 3 3 point attempts thats 9 ft's right there and those were no doubters. SV also started fouling at the 4 minute mark, do you not think that helped spread the free throw margin out?

Was it the refs fault SV stepped out of bounds 3 or more times to?

There was one out of bounds called on Elisha where he was at least 3 feet from the damn line, don't make excuses for lame refs, and how is a team supposed to adjust to a game? A coach tells you "Don't play their game, play ours". Have you never played a sport, you don't adjust your game, SV's game is what got them to the Sweet 16, these refs sucked, plain and simple, quit taking up for them. If when Ashley is knocked to the ground and Elliot has a player hurt, and we don't get a foul called on that, Elliot should not have got the touch fouls called all night long. Ballard played a damn physical game, and the refs let them, they changed the way they wanted to call the games against SV.
