It's hard to draw comparisons between SV and EC because they had no common opponents this year.

Well after reading alot of good, good post on here about this game, and very similar as well, it is about time for my input and prediction. I have seen Elliott County play one time this season and that was at the ALL A State when they played Paintsville. They started out on fire from the beyond the arc and was getting the ball down low a pretty good bunch and was hitting on all cylinders. They played like that the whole game, but so did Paintsville and they got the best of them that game.

Elliott County is a very young and athletic team who likes to play around the perimeter and will go down low with it when needed to. They are very physical on the defensive side of the ball and thats always a plus for any team, and they are a well coached team and very well conditioned. I really like this Elliott County team and Im looking forward to seeing them play at Rupp.

Now for Shelby Valley. I have seen them play 4 times this year, once at Pikeville, Betsy Layne at Region, Belfry at Region and Pikeville at Region. The Pikeville game was a good game and they looked pretty good in that one(not the regional game though, get to that later). They looked very impressive v.s. Belfry and were just too quick for the Pirates. Betsy Layne they looked horrible, but they got away with the W, but all good teams will have their bad moments. And for the regional championship game, they did have some trouble getting the baskets, but like someone said earlier they made up for that with their D causing turnovers, drawing fouls and getting the fast break oppurtinities, and once the momentum turned, they got in their groove.

Shelby Valley is an amazing young squad who can make you pay if make a mistake. They are very physical down low and their guard play is unlike any Ive ever seen in High School. To be so young they both have alot of poise, especially Elisha Justice who won the MVP of the 15th. But the one that holds them together is Jacob Bryant who will provide the toughness and leadership.

Now for my prediction. Should be one of the better games of the tournament, but I gotta go with the 15th.

I'm glad to see neither of theses teams drew the 6th, 7th or 11th. (lol) We will at least have a mountain team advancing. Good match up between these two but I gotta give Valley the edge in this one. Shelby Valley 68 Elliott co. 65

I agree, great post. It's good to hear from someone who has seen both teams play and can make a better comparison. I wish I could see it in person (gotta pay those bills)!

umm i dont really kno much bout ethier team but i think that valley will more than likly pull this one out....good luck valley

All of you 14th Region and 15th Region are under estimating Elliott County. They won the stronger 16th Region. You guys better think about it, Elliott is alot better than people are giving them credit for.

STATS
Good post based on the game you saw Elliott & the 4 you saw SV play. However if anyone wants a true comparison it needs to be based on more than one game for Elliott. I can assure you at the ALL A game Elliott may have played to about 70% of where they are playing at now. It will be a good game if Elliott is shooting well they will win if not they will lose as I think the teams are pretty much that evenly matched. Their are other factors but for the most part it will depend on how Elliott shoots.

phs1986 will know the answer to this one surprised there hasn't been a reply from phs1986 yet ..

If SV comes out and plays to their potential they are better than Elliott Co. I think we match up pretty well because they are small and usually larger teams are the ones that give us difficulties. They are a good team there is no denying that, but to say they are better because they come from a "tougher" region is just garbage. What makes the 16th tougher than the 15th? I mean Paintsville was probably 3rd or 4th best in the 15th and took down the number 1 team in the 16th...
#78
You are talking about the all "A" and Elliott Losing to Paintsville well that game Ferg had a very bad ankle sprang and 2 were sick ,they were not playing up to par at ALL ! worst game they have played all year, I think. About the cousin thing , yes they are.

I still think the key to the game is how well EC protects the ball. SV thrives on their defensive pressure and creating turnovers, but they are not the best shooting team. If EC can hang onto the ball and force SV to shoot well to win, EC will probably take it. But if SV can force them into making some careless mistakes and create some easy points, they will have a great chance to win.

Can SV run the floor for 4 quarters with EC? (J Bryant, Newsome, Hatfield, J Justice) are some big kids that may tire somewhat. That may be a bigger factor than some think. EC never tires during the game so this could be interesting. I do not see SV's pressure bother EC to much since they have excellent guards.
#81
Good luck shelby valley. I would really like to see a Shelby Valleyvs. JBS in the second round.

I would say Valley will win the first game.

Most of SV's big guys don't really have a lot of bulk anyway, so I don't see that being a factor. They all seem to be in excellent condition and can run the floor really well.
