I highly agree here. I believe that this year will be the toughest in a while. Estill returns everyone, and Powell returns a good crew. It is possible that Powell will repeat in district yet again, but Estill will definitely give them a run for there money. As far as region goes...Estill,Powell,Pcc,Letcher and Leslie are my picks. Any of these teams could snatch the region title. This will be a good year in the 14th Region.Big Grin

Its a toss up, it will come down to who's playin well at the time Regionals comes along and who can make the big plays.

I have nothing to be jealous over. Rolleyes

I just don't think that Powell has what it takes to repeat. If they do, then I was wrong. Good luck to them, though.

It is possible for them to do it, but very hard.It will be a great season as far of tight games and everything.I wouldn't be supprised to see Powell and Estill in the championship game this year. That is if they make it that far (both teams). It is a good possibility.

its going to be determined by if powell wants it more. they have dominated the 56th distict for the past 4 seasons. the seniors have not lost in the district, this their last year, they will be determined not to loose.

Last years seniors won the district every year.Powell is going to try to make it 5 straight.

Well if you can remember, in the preseason top 10 last year..Powell was ranked 7th...behind "KCC" and "Buckhorn". No one thought they had a snowflake's chance in H#ll to win region, or even the district. They will open some eyes this year. I'm sure of it.

That's true. I didn't think that Powell should have been ranked that low. Leslie was strong, but not coached very well (14th championship game proved that). I believe that Powell will win their district. Right now, Perry Central is holding all the cards.

Very well put.

I think that they can this year, but the seniors and juniors cannot do it all by themselves this year. They will have to have some underclassmen to step up.The seniors last year wouldve had a harder time if it wasnt for some sophomores stepping up.The upperclassmen wont need much help this year, but if they want to repeat at champs then they need to welcome in the underclassmen and play together. This is Powell's year and its their title to lose so their going to be tough to beat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on now, you've got to be joking???
Leslie County has more wins than any other team in the 14th over the past three years. They were regional runner-up in 2003 and 2006, lost in semi's by one run in 2005. Coaches don't field ground balls or try to throw strikes. Coach Melton and his staff do a fine job. Blaming them for the collapse in the regional finals would be like blaming Tom Landry for "the catch" made on the throw from Joe Montana in the NFC championship game in '82.

That group of seniors underacheived by losing to Sheldon Clark in a home football playoff game and to Jackson City in the basketball regional semi's too (they were expected to win both games). Was this the coaching staff's fault too? Some kids just never get over the hump, and win the big game. And this was a great group of kids, who had excellent high school careers, some of them in all three sports.

If they never got over the hump then how did they win the most games in the last 3 years???Powell has either set or been within a game or 2 of the single season wins record the past 3 years. How have they not won more games in that span of time.If you can look it up and prove it to me that Leslie has more wins, then more power to you, but untill then we are all going to go with the truth.good luck looking it up.

It's on the KHSAA web site. Leslie Co. is (71-22) over the past thre years, Powell Co. is (68-41). Took about 2 minutes. I think the single season win mark you are speaking of, must be Powell County's own. State record for wins is 41 by Dunbar in 2003.

The hump that I speak of is the post season. Football team won regualar season district in 2005, b-ball team won WYMT in 2006 and was regional runner-up in 2005, baseball team had a 4-1 lead with 2 outs in the regional championship game last year.

If Leslie had the most wins, why didnt they get the region titleSmile??? Their best chance to get it wouldve been last year and even the year before that. But they came up short both times....to the same team. Looks like Powell had the better team in my opinion.

but did they win???i heard they lost.sounds like Powell shows up for the big games.

Maybe their strength of schedule had something to do with the wins.Did they play as many big teams in the last 3 years as Powell?Powell plays lexington teams and other big teams.does Leslie?
#30
Leslie choked under pressure, powell didnt...good teams over come pressure...FINAL SCORE POWELL 5 LESLIE 4.....POWELL 2006 REGION CHAMPS!!!!!!!!
