"Recruiting isn't Tubby's fault"
#31
Tubby Hater Wrote:The recruits I was referring to that are weaker than eastern ky players are guys like Adam Williams, Woo, Shagari, and this big foreign project kid Tubby has coming in next year. You gotta admit this year was probably one of the weakest Senior classes in school history, and look at next year. If Morris leaves we are screwed, because patterson is not coming. He is set to announce on April 3rd his college choice, and it just so happens Billy Donavon is scheduled to make an appearance at Marshall on the 2nd. So what does that tell you?

if patterson dont get his head outta his ass and start playin d and hustlin he aint gonna make it in college

My nephew plays soccer with Barnhart's son and Mitch was telling us Sunday that they were actually expecting Lucas to sign when he came to watch the Georgia game but he didnt. I think they are beginning to wonder now what he is doing. I think Lucas is waiting to see what Patterson is going to do.
#33
i dont look for Patterson to come either. and the way i see it if he has doubts about playing in the blue and white, we dont need him. i want players who have heart.
#34
^ yes sir

I'm hearing that Lucas and his dad may be a package deal with his dad becoming an assistant. Patterson on the other hand definitely won't play at UK.

If Woo would have been from Eastern Kentucky he would have been revered as a god..... Adam Williams was just across the state line in WV. He was player of the year in WV and better than anyone in Eastern Kentucky that year.... Shagari had size and potential. Unfortunately you can't teach attitude....

Patterson IMO is waaaaayy overrated. He will never be the player in college that many project him to be..

Wasn't the same thing said about Rex Chapman?? HS and college are as different as day and night. Patterson, in the right program, will be a star. Not in Tubby's system though.

I don't think many players can be good in Tubby's system, not any good or uptempo ones anyways.

I dont know if tubby cant recruit the players, but i dont think the players really want to buy into his program. Alot of these players were used to being allstars and big time players on their teams, and now their playing with 4 other guys who were the big men on their team. Tubby wants them to slow it down, play good defense and work the ball inside, but alot of these players just dont wanna play that style. THeyd rather pull the quick 3 then look for an inside shot. I dont know what should be done, but maybe a new coach could bring new life to UK basketball, the greatest program in college basketball in my opinion. (UCLA is pretty good to)

No. Chapman was the boy king coming out of HS. Rex could shoot, handle the ball and jump out of the gym. Patterson cannot make anything but a dunk. Patterson will only be effective against someone smaller or slower he can dominate around the basket. Rex could take anybody off the dribble and if you backed off he had unlimited range. That is not a very good comparison.

I have seen Patterson play numerous of times this year and he is the real deal. Just not enought balls to go around on his team. He is dominant but the guards shoot their arm off, and as far as defense I have seen him take over games with his defense. Didnt anyone even watch the game on ESPN this year, he kept them in the game with his defense. I was at the Scott Co game at Memorial and they had no one who could stop Patterson but much like Tubby's team they dont feed the post.

i watchedthe hhs vs dematha game live and i dont know how many times patterson and oj just walked down the court on the defensive end or just didnt play defense at all

So are you saying you wouldnt want OJ to come to UK either because he walks up the floor?
#45
Its sad that there is only about 5 UK fans on here....the rest of you get on here everyday and say something negative about the team....We are young, we will be great next year and all you haters will eat your words.I'm going to love every minute of it to...But of course when we start doing good all you haters will jump right back on the band wagon.....You guys are losers!
#46
I wouldn't want OJ at UK because his heart is set on the NBA. One year of showboating is not worth the scholarship IMO. Patterson is not going to dominate in the college game. He is an athetic 6'8" player that dominates smaller players in highschool. He has NO offensive game. IMO he will be a role player at the next level. Thats fine. He will not be a superstar.

2004 top 100 ranked high school basketball players:
Randolph Morris: 8th
Joe Crawford: 13th
Rajon Rondo: 15th
Chris Lofton: NOT RANKED

this being said, dont say that A. Tubby shouldnt tyr recruiting the "project players" because thats what lofton would have been and complain about tubby not getting lofton at the same time. and B. Tubby cant recruit because he obviously can.

man u can be a fan and a critic of your team. its called being passionate. i love UK and always will but i am not blind. i can see the decline in our program. Losers, no.. but UK has been.

Bizmark - those players might have been highly listed but are they quality players??? Rondo was obviously not into college ball, Crawford is about as consistant as the withdrawl method and you never know if Morris will "have his head in the game"...

Young?? Tubby has worn out that excuse for about 5-6 years now. No, the current UK squad isn't young. You want to hear young?? How about 3 freshmen, one sophomore and one senior as starters. Now that's young....and that's UNC. You never hear them or their coach constantly whine about being 'young'. The just play....and win. Let's cease with this 'young' crap, OK? You can still be young and win....UNC has proven that.

Being "young" has never been an "excuse". And you say past 5 or 6 years??/ Where has your head been for the past 5 or 6 years. we have been down for TWO! Count em, TWO years....geez you people act like we havent won a game since Rick Pitino left Rolleyes

I just dont see any scorer, or shooter wanting to play for UK under Tubby with his current offensive system, and Braves Fan I don't consider myself a loser, nor do I consider any of our members here to be losers just different people with different view points. All of which as long as they abide by the rules of the site are allowed to present.

As far as a bandwagon i doubt that there will be a bandwagon for the cats, I am sure they will do better next year as Florida will be losing some great players and we are losing Thomas and friends.

No knock on you Doc, honestly, but it seems as if you do not follow recruiting as intently as myself. Jai Lucas is a SCORER. Jodie Meeks, in high school, was a SCORER, Kelenna Azubuike averaged 40 points a game in high school, he was a SCORER. Joe Crawford was a SCORER. Patrick Sparks was a SCORER. It has NOTHING to do with style, i promise. The whole Style of Play argument as to why we dont land recruits is a figment of Tubby Haters imaginations. It simply is not true.

CD i agree we do get "scorers" but once we get them here they lose their shot. if we had all those players on the team why do we struggle to average 60 a game?

No knock taken CD, I don't follow recruiting near as much as I used to.

But Sparks wasn't recruited by UK, and Lucas hasnet signed as of yet.

Crawford was supposed to be a scorer, I havent seen that out of him, not on a consistent basis.

Azubuike could have really been a scorer given the right system, I wish he would have stayed.

Meeks I like, he actually reminds me of am offensive threat, I think we look much better as a team with him rather than Bradley.

It used to upset me that Lofton went to Tenn but I really think that if he went to UK he would have been trapped in a system that doesn't want you to score, substitute patterns which I honestly dont understand. and an anemic offense that fails to produce points.

Tubby is a defensive coach that I will preach to anyone he believes in D but you have to play on both ends of the court.

I have 2 major issues with the man, one is simple to explain as a life long UK fan, under Rupp, Hall, Sutton, amd Pitino I felt we had a shot to win the National championship every years except for about 4 seasons while they were coaching during my lifetime.
Under Tubby I havent felt that way for sometime, and its not a lack of confidence in his coaching ability in game situations as much as his evaluation of recruits. I have always said that In a close game I would take him over Pitino up until the past 2 seasons.

I just question how we constantly lose the recruits to UCLA, Duke, North Carolina, Florida, that we used to get. Now I can understand that times have changed and we are no longer the big dog that we were, however UCLA, North carolina and Duke have been big dogs for quite sometime but they don't seem to be having the recruiting woes that we are seem to experiencing

First Time Caller Wrote:Tubby loves to recruit 'projects'. He hates those superstars that only want to stay a year or two. Imagine where UNC and Florida would be if they only recruited 'projects'? Anyone who expects the talent level at UK under Tubby to pick up is only kidding themselves. It ain't going to happen.

i agree, my family don't even want to watch KY play any more, you would always hear someone talking about how well KY was playing ball and looking foward to the next years season, know everyone wishes it would get over qiuckly each year, something is going to have to change or the talent will never pick up and KY will not be the team they are known for the winnest bb team ever it won't take long

Tubby is hoping to run into another Adam Morrison. He was ranked what, like 150 coming in? and look what he done in three years. If Tubby gets some new assistants who will help him recruit better, we will be fine. Im a die hard UK fan either way.
