Daniel Harmon-WYMT Player of the Week
#1
Congrats to Daniel Harmon from Pikeville for being chosen the WYMT Player of the Week. It is a very, very deserving honor. He wasn't selected to the All-District team and honestly, he is Pikeville's best and most consistant player. He is also a great person. Congrats Daniel and good luck to you and the Panthers at the Expo Center next week!!

Definitely should have been on the All District team. He is a clutch player, and has been throughout his entire career whatever the sport.

If he wasn't selected All-District, the Coach should be blamed. The all district team is made up of 5 players from the 1st place team, 4 from the 2nd place team, and 2 from each the 3rd and 4th place from the regular season I believe, but anyway be anyway the head coach from each team is asked which players he wants to be on the team. Some coaches will not tell you that but some will, but thats how almost every all district teams are selected in the region. I've seen alot of players screwed out of these honors because of coaches playing favorites, even players who were up for POY in the conference. But anyway I figured I'd share that, so had the media or other coaches throughout the district voted he probabily would have been on the all district team.

I am just about positive that SV got 4 on the team because they were the #1 seed. Pikeville got 3, ER got 2, and David 1. It was based on the season not the tourney and coaches couldn't vote for their own players, so it was the SV, ER, and (cough) David coaches who picked the Pikeville players who made the team. A good player from Pikeville had to be left out and unfortunately it was Harmon! Most coaches hate the All-Tournament team and I would say Williams' does too!!

Could not agree more.... good Luck Panthers and Daniel, you can win this regional tournament

The kid doesn't get the prop he deserves. Very athletic but the bottom line is that wymt loved him but Pikeville voted others on the all-tourney team. I worry that as long as he is at Pikeville he will be looked at as a true Valley kid and will not get the recognition that he deserves

Harmon should have been on the All District team and IMO, The David School DID NOT have a player deserving...The problem is the mandatory placement of a certain number of players.

Congrats to Daniel.

Well PUD you sure have it all figured out after your 2 posts on BGR. Harmon will be fine while becoming a 3-sport star at Pikeville. He is not a "Valley Kid" just like Hatfield isn't a "Phelps Kid". They both chose the school they wanted to attend so just leave it at that. Pikeville's coach didn't get to vote for his own players for the All-District team so it looks as if the "Valley Coach" may have done the shafting here to keep the "Valley Kid" off of that team. However, since coaches nominate the WYMT Player of the Week, the Pikeville Coach must think enough of Harmon to nominate him after his great week. I also doubt if the coach is into team wrecking this time of year and probably hated any individual awards that were handed out last night. I'd say the only trophy he was after last night eluded him!!

Very true, according to WPRG-TV here was the mandatory placements for the team:
SV-#1 seed- 4 players
PK-#2 seed- 3 players
ER-#3 seed- 2 players
DV-#4 seed- 1 player

No matter how you slice this team, some kids were leaving with hurt feelings last night!! I am sure SV's 5th starter wasn't a happy camper either but Fox Sports is right, they gave a trophy to a player on a team that hasn't won a game in two years!!
