I really dont think it was much as the Hornets played real bad, just Belfry was able to take them out of their game. Belfry shut down anything Phelps could do inside, May was huge rebounding and the play of Belfrys inside boys shut down Phelps and that was the difference maker. Charlie played a great game for Phelps one of his better games of the year, he hit five 3-pointers. Stiltner was absent for Phelps which was huge, but he drew alot of Belfry attention on defense.
Case and Hunt was going to get their points you could figure. I think Belfry let him have his, he is good a drawing fouls and shut down the rest, which worked pretty well.
I still think this Belfry team is a very very dangerous team. One of my dear friends from Phelps, one of many who is pretty close to the team looked at me after the game and goes wow they are good.

They are good, but the inside game is where they scored MOST of the points.... Ryan Dotson did well inside, the hornets had some serious rebounding WOES last night! You cannot give a team like Belfry 4 looks at the basket every time down the floor! Congrats Pirates, just don't bash our babies!

I really don't think anyone was bashing your babies...but people are usually more honest on here than they would be to your face.

On the flip side of that, people using the fact that posters are anonymous to lie, too.

I'm as big a Belfry fan as the next and not one time have I watched them this year and said, "Wow, they're good!"

Let's be honest about our 15 Region teams. One of them has to go to Rupp, I hope it's the Pirates, but our region doesn't have one team that makes you say "Wow, they're good!"

I never said I said it but someone from Phelps told it to me, but I will say they are pretty good. They are having alot of other guys to step up and playing some good basketball. But that wasn't me that was wowed it was a guy from Phelps that I know really well. I will say wow about Jamie Case though he can play.
But I really think Belfry will make a good run in the tournament, esepecialy if they get the nice draw.

congrats belfry

I know no one was doing that really.... all I was saying, basically, was let's not start going there.... no one from Phelps has said anything negative about the pirates..... Let's keep this thread positive!

The Belfry team who played tonight could very well beat any team in the 15th region. The Pirates played excellent defense, especially on Stiltner and how they collapsed once the ball got into the paint.

I felt that Belfry's patience tonight on offense was very indicative of just how much this team has grown this season. Phelps in the early going was perfectly content to sit in the 2-3 zone and slow the tempo, but Belfry's shot selection and ability to run through multiple options allowed them to take the early lead.

Before halftime Phelps made a slight run aided by some Belfry turnovers and a couple controversial calls (Dustin May had 3 fouls and should have had zero in my opinion), but Belfry's ability to run the court and capitalize on Phelps in transition pushed the lead to a point where the Hornets just couldn't retalliate.

For the poster who said Belfry scored the majority of their points in the paint,, you are correct, but it must be noted that it was a collaborative effort between the guards and post players as Belfry just controlled this game in all facets. Phelps had no answer for May's strength or Case.

I hope the Hornets can regroup and pull an upset in the regional, and the Pirates just need to take it one game at a time. It sure would be nice for Belfry to draw the 58th district in the opening round.

I agree about Case...he can flat out play the game.

But not too many years back Belfry and a lot of other teams in the 15th had 3-4 guys who could flat out play the game, too.

AND... just imagine.... Kelly, Stepp and a great deal of these are where they are at WITHOUT three point baskets!!! LOL.......

Great accomplishment for ALL of those players....

Tidbit of other info.... Charlie Hunt who sat out last year due to his accident, surpassed his 1,000 point during Phelps' first game this year against Pike Central. Not sure on what he has scored since then but.... he does have more to look forward too!!

Jamie Case sit out his Sophmore year with a broken collar bone.
#46
ENTIRE sophomore year??? I sure didn't know that!!
#47
Case broke his collarbone in the first game of his sophomore year...then came back about a week before district play...had a season high of like 15 in region semifinals in a win over johnson central...only played in about 10 games all season.
