Congrats Raceland on the win. Keep your heads up Pikeville. Good game.

You can read my past posts about refs. I say they miss calls sometimes but they do a decent job. That isnt the case tonight. The game was called horrible. I guess it is where it was Racelands senior night. Raceland had one field goal the first quarter, and 0 field goals the 4th quarter. The did manage to hit 19 for 25 free throws in the 4th quarter alone. Pikeville had either 4 or 5 T's called on them, Only one was actually deserving a T. Totally horrible game and I wouldnt recommend any 15th region team going up there to play.

25 free throws in the 4th quarter alone? That's awful. Hate to hear that a 15th Region team went up there and got the bad end of the calls.

Yea, they didnt make a field goal in the whole 4th quarter. How bad do you think a game has to be called for Bart to get not only one T, but two T's?

So Bart Williams got tossed???
#7
Yes, he is going to have to sit out the Allen Central game Tuesday night too. It was a very bad called game. I was ready to load them up on the bus in the middle of the 3rd and come home.

Right after the boys game, one of the refs calling the girls game told Coach Williams that his T's were without any merit at all.

Congrats to Raceland, so Bart will not be on the sidelines come tuesday v.s. AC?

I went to a girls tourney in the 16th last year, and the teams from the 15th got a raw deal also. That's why I have said that the refs in the 15th aren't as bad as people think.
#11
Congrats Raceland
#12
Sounds like this one got pretty bad...Hate to hear it ended up like this, but COngrats to Raceland.. and Pikeville keep your heads up and finish off the season strong and get ready for tourny time...

Coach Williams can be a smart aleck sometimes on the court and probably deserved it. Also watching Pikeville play several times this year they probably deserved the T's as well. Say what you want about officials, but 10 times out 10 they're probably not cheating. However, that doesn't mean they don't blow calls. They are human. Sometimes I think both fans and coaches forget that. Unless you do it or willing to do it, nothing should probably be said.

If blaming the refs is your reason for losing a game you probably aren't going to win to many games anyway. I have been critical of officiating in the 16th region. It is inconsistant at best. But I have yet to see any that were that biased.
#16
I read some stats about officiating and how the number of points in a game are really not that much of a difference in determining the outcome of games. It was only percentage of points. It does seem tough to travel from one region into another and that has always seemed to be something teams have to deal with. I am sure the 16th thinks about that when they go to the 15th or other regions as well.
#17
The play Williams was arguing was when there was an offensive foul called when a player fell over after Adams was clearing a rebound to a guard.
I don't know if the refs were biased or they justed blew about 10-15 calls, but Pikeville still played a pretty bad game in terms of effort until the last few minutes.
#18
Oh yea and anyone who has seen Adams play knows that he really can't throw an elbow if he wanted to

All the T's were earned. First T was on #2 for Pikeville for throwing the basketball and hitting a Raceland player after the whistle. The coach's T's came after a foul was called on their center for throwing an elbow into Raceland's centers face after a rebound. The coach smacked the scorers table hard right in front of the ref. He then walked onto the court arguing with the ref. The 4th and last T was on #3 of Pikeville for smack talking a Raceland player that was on the line. I clearly saw the ref tell him to be quiet, and when he kept talking, he gave him the T. Most of Raceland's ft's in the 4th were 8 from the T's and a bunch in the last 2 minutes when Pikeville was fouling to stop the clock. Pikeville hit some 3's in the last minute to make the score closer. And yes, the 16th region also feels the calls are against them in your region. Raceland felt the same way last year when we came to Pikeville and played. The officials may had missed some calls, but it was both ways. You deserved the T's. And, Raceland did score FG's in the 4th. I know Phillips had 2 himself.

The first T was deserving. The so called elbow to Racelands centers face wasnt a elbow to the face. It was close to his sholder in his chest when he was moving the ball due to all the reaching. The other one on the Pikeville player wasnt for talking smack while he was on the line, he just told the ref that his foot was on the freethrow line like they called it twice on Jacob Sword in a row. The ref told him to let him call the game,The Pikeville player said ok, then they called the T because Pikevilles player has a smurky smile on his face. If the ref knew the boy, he would know that that is the way he always smiles. I guess they dont want players to smile in Raceland on their senior night. According to the official score book, Raceland didnt score a basket in the 4th quarter, all of their 19 points came from the free throw line. I have a copy of the tape of the whole game and I even watched it again last night when I came home. 3 Refs on the floor, none of them certified by the KHSAA by going to the camps or clinics. They all just paid their 25 dollars and took a take home test to get their license. But the tape of the game is being sent to the KHSAA office for review. That is why their ref license numbers was taken before we left.

Good post. I used to coach, and at one time I gave the officials a hard time. Then I got to know them, and I realized that they are good guys, and yes they are human. And I realized that they don't cheat, they just miss some calls. Just like coaches make coaching mistakes, and players make turnovers.

He went his first full season without getting a T, and all the way up to last night without getting one. Then two in one game. Bart was a heck of a player, and he has been a varsity assistant for the past what, 13 years? I think after all his years of playing and coaching that he would know what is right and wrong on the sidelines and on the court. One of the players T's was deserved, but the other wasnt. As far as the rest of your statement, I agree with you, that is what I have said in every other post about them in the past. I can understand blowing or missing a call, but come on, 25 free throws in one quarter? Racelands highest scoring quarter came in the one where they 100% of their points from the free throw line. 0% from the floor. No tip ins, no lucky shots, no fast break points, no set shot, nothing but free throws for 8 minutes of play. Tell me that sounds right to you?

It sounds right if they were getting fouled.

Yea, it might if they was getting fouled. But even Racelands fans that was at the game and on here cant get the story straight on what happened.

It doesn't matter if has been coaching for 60 years without a T. Coaches get mad and frustrated just like anyone else. I agree he was a great player, and I think he is also a good coach. However, if he slaped the table and walked out on the court at all arguing then he deserved it. I have watched several games this year when coaches get by with way too much. I also think that is why players think they can by with some of the things they do in games to warrant a T. On the other hand I also believe it is important for a coach to coach, and getting frustrated at officials is part of it. You have to show players you will stick up for them. Please don't misunderstand my posts as just a Coach Williams bashing though. I think he is a fine person!
