In my openion, the 57th will be wide open this year. Honestly the only stand out team in the district is Lawerence County. Saying this, the district in my openion is wide open for a Magoffin County or a Sheldon Clark to make a run within the district. Lawerence Co. is by far the best team in the district. with the exception of them Magoffin is probably the best offensive team within the district, and Paintsville and JC fields the best pitching staffs. In my openion the 57th district breaks down as follows.

3.) Paintsville
4.) Magoffin
5.) Sheldon Clark

Again, JC and Paintsville must be rated in the top 3 simply due to tradition, but dont be suprised if Magoffin thier offensive run capability or Sheldon Clark changes things up this year.

i agree i dont think for one second that lawrence county is a standout team at all!!!for one thing they didn't even make the tournament last year and you have johnson central(who has the best player in the region)and also paintsville...unless those to play each other in the district first round they could possibly play for the regional championship against each other as well. magoffin and sheldon clark are an after thought

i agree for t he most part the 1 spot would be close b/n central and p-ville and understandibly magoffin should be thought of as out of the equation but watch out i mean the only reason p-ville beat us last year was our coach which was too hard head to change a pitch the same way he did agianst lchs....so just be caredul who you count out

i would have to say

1.)Paintsville- a contender year in and year out they always have a good team..i think they they will win the district again and be a top team in the 15th regional tournament

2.)Johnson Central-I think that jc wille be the number 2 team in the district all season if anyone is going to contend with paintsville with consistancy its going to be them

3.Sheldon Clark-I dont think that sheldon calrk is going to be that strong this year with limited pitching and some young players that havent got alot of playing time...unless some underclass men step up and play good this year sheldon clark could not only start out in 3rd place but finish there as well...

4.)Lawerence-LC has about 4 standout players im not sure how deep there pitching is this season or there roster in general but it is possible that they can be contenders in the 57th this year

5.)Magoffin-I have herd alot of things about magoffin this year people say they where young last year and that they have inproved magoffin may give some district teams a scare this year but we will have to wait and see

Cyrus 1 win, 1 loss, both against Boyd Co. Combined for 12 K's, 2 hits, 2 BBs, 1 run, 0 earned runs.
Vialpando was the other JV only pitcher, has a naster curve.

Dunbar is loaded this year. I think they have already had about 4 kids that I know of sign in the early signing period. Admired you all taking them on first thing out of the gate.

Dunbar is loaded!!! They have a great facility and are at mid-season form. We went there throwing fastballs changes. They through everything!!! We were able to hit them but could only muster 3 runs. We were also without our starting catcher, Grimm was unable to pitch, Vanhoose wasn't there either. They took advantage of our freshman catcher, even tried to steal home twice...unsuccessfully, and a suicide squeeze!!! Which our catcher called for a pitchout, but the batter jumped across the plate to bunt the ball....the parent/umps let it stand but would have been an inning killer as the next guy was out and inning over, but they put up about 10 runs on our freshman pitchers. Their scoreboard is just like ours...I think it said the final was 77-43!!
All in all, I saw several bright spots for the Tigers. Dunbars Coach said he didn't pitch his ace, but several parents told me that their ace did indeed pitch the first 2 innings as a scout from the Oriole's was there to see him.

Dunbar's ace is Thomas Royce. He has already signed with Louisville and is a legitimate 90 mph'er. If he threw, I think that you would remember him very clearly. Anybody fit that description? If you didn't see anyone who threw upper 80's to touching the low 90's, he didn't throw.
