Best games you have watched in the past years?
#1
:letsparty I'm not associated with either of the two schools, but I thought last year's regional tournament game between Hazard and JBS was fantastic. Each team hit big shot after big shot. Also the game in the WYMT a couple of years ago with Hazard and Cawood.

Magoffin Co. vs. Paintsville, last years 57th District Tournament, Magoffin led the whole game until the last minute, Paintsville won 65-63 on a Landon Slone 15 footer at the buzzer. Great Game.
#3
I would say the Cawood/South Floyd wymt Championship game, at Knott central went in to overtime with South Floyd winning after being down 25.

I agree that was a good game

Whenever South Laurel won the State Tournament a few years back. They had a tough road to get there, and the game they played againist PRP was one of the greatest games I had ever seen. Plus there was alot more better games than that one, alot of great basketball that year down state!

Last year's 15 Region All A Championship was a dandy between Paintsville and South Floyd.
#8
South Laurel and PRP a few years ago ranks high up on the list.

In '05 we played against Pike Central in the 15th Region @ Shelby Valley, and we hit a last second shot to send it into OT, and in OT we hit a last second shot to win, and that advanced us to the second round against SV. That same night Paintsville and Shelby Valley played the 7:30 game, and Paintsville lost because they didn't hit there free throws with time expired. Those two where the best games I've ever seen at the High School level.

The wymt finals between Clay co. and Valley few yrs back, outstanding game with an awesome finish.
#11
Mason Co vs JBS last second three to defeat Jbs by two
#12
Greatest Game ever played (in the modern era):
1989 Louisville Invitational Tournament Semi-finals or Finals:
Louisville Valley 106 - PRP 101 ... 6 overtimes

Best mountain game I have seen:
Perry Central 49 - Hazard 48 - 2004 54th District Tournament
*5 or 6 lead changes in the last minute

Wildest mountain game I have seen:
South Floyd down 41-19 in the 3rd quarter of the 2002 WYMT Mountain Classic finals and they win 70-68 in overtime!

So sayeth Mr. B

And also another game that was one of my all time favorites was the Regional Championship game between AC and SF. Although SF won (62-58), that game was still one of the greatest games I have ever seen, the atmosphere was incredible and it was filled with non-stop action throughout.
#19
it was either 1998 or 96' when Paintsville played an undefeated Lex Cath at Paintsville and beat them... the place was packed an J.R. dunked... that was so much much fun even though I was only 9

That one was a dandy... but my fav game was Paintsville -vs- Lex Cath in the '96 State Tournament! We get that one out every now and then... and re-live the excitement!

Me, too. I have that game on tape. Tyler Branham ruled the world for a night.
#22
Magoffin vs. Johnson Central, 2004 57th District Tournament. Magoffin pulls the biggest upset in school history, knocking off the #1 seed Eagles and making it to the 15th Region tournament despite winning only 3 or 4 games during the regular season. Coach Adams gets back to the 15th Region tourney in his final season as Coach.

That game was awesome! But the final game between Hazard and Jackson City was great, too!

Was that Hazard-pcc game the one where the clock was messed up all night and they added 4 seconds to the clock and Daniel Combs made the last second shot to beat Hazard by one?

Hazard/JBS last year!!!!

That was the game that had everybody talking about conspiracy theories!!! It got so bad the KHSAA brass showed. The commissioner was there, Larry Boucher was in atendance and possibly Julian Tackett. The one thing I can't understand is why Hazard took the potential game winning shot with 8-9 seconds on the clock. The ball went through at :07 and PCC called timout. However only :04 was on the clock and the officials put three seconds back on. It was the right call by the zebras but all it did was give Hazard fans fuel to their fire.

1996 Paintsville and Lexington Catholic in the semi-finals at Rupp, some kid from Paintsville got 27 rebounds and set a new record.....only until a film from the 50's showed up that you couldn't make heads nor tails of and a new mark was set.

1997 Paintsville hosting Lexington Catholic on senior night.....Josh McKenzie had lost his grandfather earlier in the day, but came to the game and played tough.

1998 Paintsville hosting Hazard on senior night. Nothing more to say than 32-0 run.

1987 Paintsville hosting Richie Farmer and Clay County

1998 Painstville v Pikeville in the semi final of the 15th region....Derrick Howards steal and bucket.

1997 Paintsville v Perry central. First game in their new gym. PHS won on a last second basket.

I can't remember the year, but the Adam Rice shot that beat South Floyd.

Paintsville v Prestonsburg in 1997 Region (I believe)......the score after one was 24-2 and the cheer section chanting, you've got two points....

Lots of great games.....lots of fun times.

I was at the Laurel County/ North Hardin game with Paul Andrews shot.

Carlisle Co/Henry Clay Finals that went a billion OT's.

PRP/Pulaski final with Reggie Hanson.

Paintsville/Clay County in '87 in Paintsville.

In '89, when I caught Chris Slone's 65 footer thru the net to lose by 2 at P-burg right after Jerry Pelphrey hit a 15' jumper to take the lead with 2 seconds left. Nevermind, those 2 games P-burg and McDowell played in the next couple of weeks in the district and regionals. Great games!!

Same year when we were beaten by Pikeville on a live WYMT broadcast when I was called for a foul on Chris Slater with no time on the clock and a 1 point lead. He hit both and the game was over. How is there a foul with no time?? I've never been able to get over that...nevermind, that I didn't foul him.Smile

The Carlisle Co/Henry Clay Game was one of if no the best sweet sixteen games ever played, back and forth, no lead bigger than 3 by either team, then 3 overtimes and Steve Miller(Mr. Basketball) hitting a last second shot to win it for HC.

I think Carlisle Co's record was 40-3 that year, they were the reason the KHSAA started putting restrictions on the amount of games teams could play.

Definitely a great game. A true underdog story.
