Besides Pitino lost like 8 people from that 96 team and they all went in the first round of the draft and he still made it back to the championship

Smile Lost like 8 people? Where did you get that number. He lost 4 from the 96' team. The 3 top scorers, and the #6 leading scorer. Yeah he got back. You say it's amazing he got back.

Yet it's not amazing that Tubby got them back and actually won it after losing the top 4 scorers from the 97 team?

You're a typing contradiction. Tubby lost more scorers and still won, with what Pitino couldn't.

alfus21 Wrote:I didn't say anything about being back since then and neither did you. You tried to laugh me off the boards for saying he done something that Pitino couldn't after losing the 4 top scorers, and now you want to change your tune.

He's been close to being back since then, but a couple of bad breaks in the tournament have prevented that. With the exception of last season and the 2000 season I believe we've been close to getting back to that point. We've had 3 elite eight appearances since then but just haven't gotten the breaks (Bogans injury, Sparks getting fouled)
Being close only counts with horse shoes and hand grenades. Maybe thats what pitino Also thinks with is 97 team "I just had a bad break"

Maybe so, but the other point I got across is that Tubby did get it done in 98'. And the other point I was trying to get across is that it's absurd to judge success by counting final fours in this day and age with so much parity in basketball(George Mason last season)

Pitino got done in 96 also

Once again, I never said he didn't. Go back, read my posts in complete sentences. Come back when you have something useful to discuss, and actually understand a little bit of what I was trying to get across.

Why is that funny?

Because you said he lost 8 players off of a team or that you have nothing else to come back at me with?

No because thats a Joke, that year was the most 1 team has ever had so many players go to the draft in the first round. Buddy get over it, Tubby isnt that good of a coach.

What year are you talking about? I just told you that the 96' team lost 4 players and of those 3 went in the 1st round. That is good, but UNC did that a couple years ago as well. The 97' team lost their 4 top scorers, and you want to know what? THREE(3) of those also went in the 1st round. Same as Pitino's 96 team. Tubby was in the exact situation in 1998. Got anymore brain busters for me?

alfus21 Wrote:Yeah, along with the talent of course. It's easy to bash Tubby for winning with a team of Pitino's recruits, but Rick couldn't do it in 97' and the top 4 scorers of the 97' team either graduated or left early. I think he done a pretty good job losing those 4 guys, and finishing what Pitino couldn't.
Amen Alfus you preach it son.Kentucky basketball was the roman empire of college basketball before rick pitino ever stepped foot on campus and he did his best job with Pelphry, woods farmer, and he brought excitement back to a team rocked with scandal. Then he let money rule over his senses and left only to disgrace his self in Boston.First thing he did was do away with red auerback,s position and it was downhill after that.So he comes back to Louisville,,Kentucky,s most hated rival and despite the fact he gets all the mcdonald all-american,s any coach would only dream of he aint done crap except for one year. His record is not comparable to tubby,s either.I think Pitino has lost it.Whatever he did to modivate good players to play hard and not so good players to play beyond their talent, he seems to have lost it.These young kids may not respond to his foul mouth,,and I have heard him he never had his mouth washed out growing up.His language is pathetic.People in Ky fell in Love with the run and gun style that caught people off guard but teams were making adjustments and he leaves.Pitino fans are not ky fans their turncoat louisville fans.

Baseball fan there has never been more exciting basketball than we witnessed here in Kentucky when Pitino came here.Everybody loved him.Im sorry for doubting your loyalty to Kentucky. That was then and his ideas are not working or his players are not getting it.

Pitino did make Tubby his first choice. He called him the assassin the south. He was at Georgia then.Funny thing is how Pitino went on and on how he was such a great recruiter.
