"I went and saw the game and here are my honest views(hope I dont offend anyone but here how I saw it.)

Cordia shot the lights out(probably 60%) and most shots were wide open shots. They were very patient on offense and Coach Honeycutt had a great game plan. The Cordia kids played very hard and deserved to win also.
JBS didnt have a good game plan and I think was overlooking Cordia and thinking of playing Hazard. Clark Stepp made some big shots at the end of the game but took some horrible shots in the first half. CLint Stepp played almost the whole game and hit only one shot and never had any assists or rebounds that I saw. The people he was guarding scored many times and the fans couldnt understand why they were playing him???JBS never used their big men even though they had a huge size advantage. The Conley kid hit 4 shots in the first half and didnt play much in the 2nd half. Collins played well at the end of the game when they finally decided to throw him the ball. I hope that JBS doesnt throw the season away to serve some special agenda. This is what I saw tonight."
I've only watched JBS play once and I saw the same thing. It seemed like they only care about the Stepps.

WOW, way to go out and scare JBS to death Cordia. Anyways, A WIN IS A WIN IS A WIN! Congrats JBS!

I agree 100%... Honeycutt is a great coach and is always able to turn an upset no matter what team he has. He had a great gameplan and shut JBS down for a long time. As JBS as a team well you can't really consider how they played as a team... it was sloppy team play because Thanks to Clark Stepp shooting his arm off and lil Clint Stepp doing the same thing there was lil team effort in the game. If a team was to knock off JBS this season it is gonna be when Clark Stepp scores 30+ points... cuz when he does the rest of his team isn't included in any offense. However, When Clark uses his teamates Cox, Collins, Short, Conley, Hall, and Clint S. they are a pretty tough and solid offensive threat to any defense. But when it is Stepp-ball You can look for an upset at anytime...Congrats on the win Jbs suck it up and play better for the rest of the All "A"!!!

i am a jbs fan and i agree with your quote. i think clark is a heck of a ballplayer, but he has a tendency to get selfish. i have not seen all of the games, but i have noticed that against better competition, he doesn't force as many bad shots as against weaker competition. i say he is probably urged to shoot the ball more by the coaching staff, who knows.... as far as clint goes, all he can do is shoot the three. both kids needs to hustle more on the defensive end and crash the boards. cox doesn't have any trouble rebounding. i sometimes think they would be a stronger team with cox at the point, but that is just my opinion. anyways, i think that if jbs plays selfish ball against a good team, they will be on the losing end. as long as they play together, clark and tate, they will be tough to beat.

as far as jbs using their big men cause of size advantage, it will never happen. this has nothing to do with clark stepp. the head coach jim stepp runs a guard oriented offense. he has always been that way. that is just the way he coaches. i think jim is an excellent coach.

I think it is real funny how a couple weeks ago I was one of only a few on here that thought Jeff Honeycutt was a good coach, and now all the sudden he goes to Pippa Passes and almost beats the "Almighty" JBS Crusaders and now he is a great coach. They had JBS' number last night, you can say JBS overlooked Cordia or whatever you want, but the Lions was 2 possesions away from the biggest upset in KY last night. If the game last night was on a regular HS court Cordia wins by double figures. They got tired down the strech. Eric Combs has made Cordia alot better, he gives them another threat from outside and can handle the ball.Throw the 5-13 record out the window, when Cordia comes to play they can play with anyone. They proved that last night.Oh yell Jeff Honeycutt can coach and next season he has everyone back except Corey Gamble that played last night.

I used to play for Honeycutt... so I think i know how good of a coach he is first hand. I thought he was great and he knew how to adjust to his players and to his opponents. There are some ppl on here that have respect for Honeycutt and you should appreciate that much, because there are others on here that would just say "Honeycutt isn't a coach, JBS just played bad" ... I'm telling you the facts and being respectible. You could do the same.

This game goes to show that JBS will not be going any where this post season if they continue to play this way. The Stepp kids must pass in order to give their team a chance, it is sad to see a team with so much talent and potential, being drug down by pathetic coaching... I hope JBS can turn it around, but i do not see it happening... and congrats to Cordia.. who deserved to win this one

I agree 100%!!! Congrats Cordia.... I would prolly make the prediction that JBS will rematch Cordia in district play this year??? The outcome may be different.

Honeycutt is a good coach, and everytime JBS and Cordia plays its a close game, like PCC and Hazard, im not saying its a huge rivalry, but any game in district play is going to be close, and JBS will play cordia the 30th, and again, and maybe again in district or region play, and they will all be close games, and honestly, they shouldnt be, but they will, Cordia is a good team, but the coaching is what helps them more than anything, they have lost some huge games, but in district play, they always get it done, they have been to the finals of the district finals 3 times since 2000, Honeycutt gets the job done, he is a good coach, but JBS didnt come ready to play to night, with most of the players with sickness, including Collins and Cox, it is going to be hard to play, they didnt play sick, but coming off of that does hurt a little bit, but im not saying anything about JBS should blow out Cordia, but they should beat them more than they do everytime they meet each other, the coaching for Cordia, is good, especialy when they meet up with JBS

When Jim Stepp coached ALC, he took the team to the NAIA National Championship Tournament four years in a row.
Clark has scored 30+ points in seven games this season--JBS won all of them. About the game last night, JBS's defense--not so good. Cordia's shooting--really good. I thought Cordia was gonna win it.

Does that mean that Cordia outcoached JBS? By outcoached, I dont mean just at the game. I mean getting their team ready to play the opponent that is next on the schedule.

Why is it when there is a game that JBS is supposed to blow out opponents, the score is close and it is always said either that JBS had a bad night, or they are sick, or getting over a sickness? How many bad games in a row against lower level teams should a team be allowed to have? I am sorry to tell you this, but good teams dont play down to level of their competition. Sickness, happens to every school, every team, and most players. Some school systems are out of school for the rest of the week over the flu. That is something that good teams can overcome by having bench players stepping up when they get a chance to play. It was predicted that JBS would have their bench cleared because it was going to be a 20 point win. When does JBS really clear their bench? They play their key players all the way down to the two minute mark even when they have a 40 point lead. Maybe that is why they dont have the players stepping up when someone is sick or injured.

You mean like when JBS beat Pikeville 40 points last year?

I have always thought Jeff Honeycutt was a great coach and KCC made a bad mistake when they let him go. Cordia and KCC always play better when they play JBS, because they want to beat them so bad.

Good comeback. What does a game that happened last year have to do with JBS only beating Cordia by 5 points this year? Why cant you answer a question someone asked about a post you made instead of living in the past. Did Cordia outcoach JBS? Was Cordia more prepaired for JBS than JBS was prepaired for Cordia? Do you think every team has to deal with sickness and injury? And why is it when it is a close game, there is always reasons why JBS didnt blow out teams? This is going on this year, not last year.

Are you saying JBS is not a good team and everyone should know when a blow out is going to happen and if it doesn't happen then you have a bad coach who didn't prepare. A ball game is a ball game. They don't always turn out like the coach thought they would. And when did you become the coach of every team in the mountains? I don't know who said JBS would beat Cordia by 20. It seems JBS always plays Cordia close. It has to do with county compitition. Last year JBS only beat them by one at their place, while we beat you by 40. Is Cordis a 39 point better team than Pikeville? I don't think so. But maybe you didn't prepare like Cordia did.

I am not living in the past. That is all I have to go by as far as Pikeville is concerned. I know JBS has beat a lot of good teams this year and won the WYMT. I am not saying what we will do in the future. I don't know but neither do you.

I don't know. They didn't know about the Combs boy, who just got eligible from PCC to Cordia and maybe they should have. They know to be ready for Cordia. It is not like they over looked them. Any body who plays Cordia knows they can beat you. I know that they don't always hit three's like they did that night. Now tell me how do you prepare for 3 or 4 players hitting every 3 they shoot.

exactly, its hard to play two guards against four
#54
Cordia was very prepared for this game. They knew the game plan and stuck to it. Honeycutt is a very nice coach. Neither team played good defense in this game.
#55
I think Cordia was more prepared "mentally." They knew they had to go in playing their best game to beat JBS, and to advance in the tournament. JBS has come off of some "highs" here lately, and sometimes when everything's been going your way--well, there is such a thing as "over-confident" if you know what I mean. And it's usually not a good thing--makes you let down your guard sometimes.
#56
Very sloppy game for JBS. That was not the team I saw play in the WYMT Tourney. Cordia can shoot and they're a very dangerous team! JBS wasn't shooting well at all and their defense was not enough to handle Cordia. Hope they get it back to where it was a couple of weeks ago or the Crusaders will be in major trouble.
#57
This was probably the best high school game i've attended this year. Cordia played an excellent game, but made a couple of mistakes down the stretch...due to inexperience i think. In my opinion Hurt is one of the top players in the region. Honeycutt did an excellent job in this game, and has become one of the top coaches in the region...come tourney time this team will make a lot of noise. On WKCB after the game was over it said that JBS only had 2 turnovers for the entire game...its hard to beat a team when they get up that many shots. Cox looked very good for JBS i only remember him missing 1 or maybe 2 shots, imo he needs the ball more. Stepp done a nice job down the stretch getting the the hole, but did force some things. Going to be a highly contested region this year.

I never meant it to seem disrespectable, and I do appreciate those on here who do. What I meant was exactly what you said about some saying JBS had a bad game, and not giving Jeff and his Lions credit for a great game plan and execution of it. JBS is a great team don't get me wrong there either I'm just saying before the game very few people gave Cordia a chance to stay within 10 and after it was over a lot of people was jumping on the Honeycutt band wagon and as you can see you and I were already on it. No disrespect here to anyone and if it was taken that way i am sorry.

I have never been impressed with Honeycutt. He had some really good talent when he was at KCC and couldn't win 5 games. He got lucky in this one, is about all you can say.

Honeycutt is among the top coaches in the region, I would say top 5 IMO, he a great coach, and he didnt get lucky, in no way, he is a great coach, and could be a good coach anywhere
