Shelby Valley 70 - Pineville 63
#1
final
#2
final
#3
congrats valley on the win

Day and Warren for Pineville had great games.
Day shot 11-11 from the field, and Warren hit some big 3's in the game.

Jackson led Shelby Valley in scoring, and Hatfield chipped in with a double double.

Not a well played game by Valley... Until they find someone other than Jackson that is confident shooting from the outside they will continue to struggle like this. Really nice game by Jeremy Jackson, and some good numbers for Ashley Hatfield as well.... Half court offense continues to be a struggle for the Cats...

They look too unselfish at times, and pass up way too many open shots to make the extra pass.

You can tell, though, that Elisha, Logan, and Jacob are hesitant to fire from the outside. I've watched all 3 play for years, and it's strange to see all of them lose their confidence so much...

Yeah, they pass up way too many open shots from the outside.

Valley has really good interior passing, but when teams pack in a 2-3 zone so tight there isn't any room on the inside. I think Valley may have a tough time against Pikeville (if they beat Leslie) on Saturday...

[b]congrats Valley On The Win!!!

Congrats Valley. Keep working hard.

Toby Wright has a dnady of a 3-ball, and seems confident when he gets to play. Justice and L. Bryant were also great behind the arc last year, but rarely take a shot this year.

Congrats Valley on a good win, but the score was a little closer than I guessed it would have been, but a W is a W.
#15
Valley played pitiful!
#16
Congrats to SV. I didn't think it would be this close, but it counts just the same as winning by 1.

Maybe SV is starting to see how weak their schedule was in the begining! I REALLY AM NOT trying to get on SV. They have some realy good young players and a good team. But, I really think the weak schedule has a lot to do with this. The stronger the teams you play, the stronger you play as the season goes. A teams main goal is to get out of the Dist. and Reg. first.

I hope it's just a mid-season slump. Because when these kids work together anything is possible. Keep your heads up Valley. Remember TEAMWORK is everything.

I am so sick and tired of people talking about their schedule. Let it go! They have lost one game, and have played two of the top teams in the 13th region and now one of the top teams in the 14th. It hasn't seemed to bother them too much. They have Lexington Dunbar coming up also who beat Hazard by 40 points.

I agree that it's right around time where most teams begin to slow down, lose shooting touch and maybe even a little confidence. As you can see Valley still shoots the 3 but become reluctant after the shots don't fall. Teams are basically letting SV have the 3 pt shot which hurts them because their shots aren't falling right now. They just seem to struggle in the half court offense and with 2-3 defenses right now.

Congrats Valley!

I too think they ALL pass up some good shots......
They all play unselfish ball......but it is working for them.

Congrats again!

I think you really have to look at the schedule, like it or not. I think the Dunbar game for Hazard was a fluke. Hazard came back after that loss and beat Lafayette and a very good Madison Central team. Valley has played 3 good teams this year. They struggled to win two of those and lost one. Nice young team though.

Who cares if they stuggled, they won. I am just saying that there schedule is no easier than anyone elses in the 15th region. They also beat the #10 team in SC by 20 points.

You say that like struggling to win against Corbin and Bell Co. is a bad thing, and that losing to Hazard is a bad loss. Beating two good 13th region teams (probably #2 and #3 in the 13th) at a 13th region tournament was two very quality wins for a young Valley team. And playing competitively with Hazard to the wire was good for this team....

Read the post again. I said you had nice young team, but like it or not, your schedule is not that impressive and it's starting to show. You also struggled against a team last night that JBS blew out of the gym.

Show me your teams schedule and we will compare.

I agree completely that Valley's schedule isn't very strong, and I also agree that Valley is struggling right now... I'll be surprised if they don't have a tough time with Leslie County too... What I am saying is that there is little difference between the top teams in the 13th, 14th, and 15th (excluding South Laurel)... On any given night Bell, Corbin, Hazard, PCC, JBS, Paintsville, or SV could beat any of the other... Shelby Valley has a long way to go before they can compete on the statewide level, like some people are suggesting...

It is amazing how a coach can suck the confidence out of his shooters. Just from sitting behind the bench during the ER game every shot that is missed was a bad shot, according to him.

well it sounds like Sv didn'ty play well again for the second game in a row, but all teams go through spells that they don't play well. Sv is having theirs now instead of late in the season. They will rebound and start beating the tar out of people again.
#30
All it takes for that confidence to come back is to knock a couple down. You can't quit shooting the ball all together. I was always told to shoot till I was back on. They are not a bad team they are young and they played the best team in the 14th till the final bell. Doesn't matter what JBS did to Pineville. Let's see how well they play tonight against Hazard.
