i am going to have to agree with this the girls teams around this area get limited respect by the media...i think we should begin e-mailing and do what ever it takes to get a WYMT classic for the girls

I agree with you. The girls basketball fans need to email or write WYMT and ask them to hosts a mountain classic for them also.

What about having a classic in the Expo Center, at Pikeville, every year and have 2 top teams in 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th region play one another. Get someone like Staples or Hibbitt sports to sponser this tournament. Have the same format as the WYMT Classic.

No joke, in TITLE IX the girls and boys are suppost to be treated equal and I beleive that this would be a good idea. Recken if ya talked to the A.D. of the schools that would help any?
01-13-2007, 02:30 PM
it would help very min. i think it would be more so up to us fans

Bad Idea, I love watching girls but they tournament would lose money I hate to say it but if you do not have they right girls team in the tournament the fans that would come woould not be enough to cover all the cost of a tournament like this. and title IX has nothing to do with this. IX is equable not equal

You get Magoffin they always bring half the county an Pike Central ,Johnson Central Perry Central ,Clay County ,East and West Carter an so on these teams travel really well and it wont lose money that is why you get Sponsors.

Guys if I'm not mistaken WYMT used to sponsor a girl's tournament at Perry Central called the Queen of the Mountains, but it wasn't telivised.

I think that its a good idea but the wymt mountain classic has always been a boys tourny and so it should be left at that...and like others have posted it really proably would lose money.....

I support girls and boys basketball, and I'm sure ya'll do too. I think they need to try it for about 5 years. If attendence falls over that period of time, kick it out. If attendence rises, keep it up. I'm just trying to say, try it.
