03-02-2005, 03:28 AM
Holler, anything else is ludicrous
03-02-2005, 03:33 AM
Hollow. But I did notice that you spelled pronunciation wrong haha.
03-02-2005, 03:33 AM
Hollow means empty right???
03-02-2005, 03:34 AM
I dont fake my voice for anyone... Do you actually think someone who is 2+ hours away from you is above you somehow? They are faking their voice too unless they are just not from KY... you should be proud of your accent. KY Boy accents are adorable...

03-02-2005, 03:54 AM
I say holler regardless, I really dont care what other people think of me.
03-02-2005, 03:56 AM
I don't know I didn't come up with the English language. I was just jokin' because it was funny that we were talking about pronunciation and you mis-pronounced pronunciate. I found it funny.
03-02-2005, 03:57 AM
YEA BGG...I fixed it...
03-02-2005, 04:14 AM
Yea godfather it was kidna funny....O WELL i went to prestonsburg what can i say
03-02-2005, 04:15 AM
hollar is how i say it.
I was on vacation and i would go talk to girls and they would be like your accent is adorable...BGG nailed it.lol But, some experts say that our accent is actually a form of british language. The world outside here has just developed a language of thier own. Thats what makes Eastern Kentucky unique.

That is very true BGG.. When you go to places like cali, and talk, the girls kind of flock to ya just to hear you talk lol.. it's awesome.

In the "Newsexpress" a few weeks ago, they had a article about how schools were going to teach classes to try to get the accents out of the kids. I dont think I would let my son go to it, or if he had to, tell him to exagerate the accent part more than normal while in that class.
03-02-2005, 12:26 PM
I say holler, yonder, aintcha, wontcha, reckon, etc. I love it too. The ladies seem to also. LOL
03-02-2005, 12:55 PM
Yeah haha I make sure I use the Eastern Ky accent at the beach. Works everytime lol
I def. use holler!!

That's insane...people are treated like they are not as smart because of their Eastern Kentucky accent. The administrators or whoever of these schools must feel inferior to the rest of the state so they feel like they have to start teaching these types of classes. I think we should all be who we are...

It's said that the E. Ky accent is the closest in America to the actual British way of speaking.
03-02-2005, 05:10 PM
I don't think that it is so much of the accent that they are probably trying to rid the students of but rather they are trying to help in teaching proper grammar.....Instead of saying "I ain't never been there" saying "I havn't been there"...just things like that....that's why people from EKY don't score as well on the english part of the ACT because they think that they have the right answer just because that it what they always hear....nothing against the accent, just using the words in the proper manner.
03-02-2005, 05:12 PM
thats different...that has nothing to do with accent...that is grammar like you said...and that should have been taught already...
03-02-2005, 05:19 PM
I think it's clear that it's not working. I wish I had grammar in high school. The last time I had it was maybe 8th grade. And now that I'm in college and have to take foreign languages it would really help if I knew what thnigs were like past participles and all that junk.

Those thing should have been taught and reinforced each year but I would say that some of the English/Grammar teachers dont even know some of this stuff... Its sad but true...
I dont know some of those things either anymore GF...it's a good thing I will never need to use anything like that...
03-02-2005, 05:25 PM
It was never reinforced after my sophomore year. Yeah they get onto you about comma use and spelling but there's so much more to the language than that.
I think it's simply because the teachers are trying to teach what is required by the CATS testing and no more no less. At least most of them.

I agree 100% GF, they're way to concerned with the CATS test.
