who thinks Belfry has a shot at winning the district this year?

They have a very good shot at winning district. They have not lost district since this year's seniors have started (which was their sophomore year) and I know they have no desire to give up the championship their senior year. 3-peat!!!!!

I dont think that they will win it again, but they are very talented and some good players coming from the middle school program.

They not only have good players coming from the middle school they have good players in high school. Most of these girls have been playing together since middle school on the freshman team and now its their time to shine. I think they have a great shot of winning district and a great shot at being a region contender.

I watched those girls practice today and they look awesome!!!

They have a very good chance!!!! Even though they lost 6 seniors they still return 2 starters, Moon and Deskins, and Robinette (their 6th man last year) will make an impact.
Plus all these girls have played together for a few years. Their freshman and soph. will also keep up the pace. It should be good to watch district play.

Belfry will be just fine,Moon,Deskins,Robinette, have been playing AAU,High school ball for years, that's a good neucleus, add probably the best shooter in the region(Merrisa Pruitt,a soph, along with Staten a Freshman, and Jonda Whitt,A soph, and Paige Thacker a soph. off the volleyball team they'll be OK.

They are going to be an all gaurd team that is very quick but that is their game they have always been a run and gun show. Deskins,Moon,Robinette,Pruitt, and Whitt are the ones who played the most at practice whenever I watched them myself. They are awesome and that 5 clicked together very well. I hadn't saw Pruitt and Whitt play in about a year because I rarely made it to JV games, and Gannon didn't play them much varsity, not because they didn't have the talent, they just had a loaded bench and they were only freshman but they didn't show any signs that young players usually show. They looked like they had been practicing for a whole season when it had only been a couple of days but I guess thats what you get when you have 5 that has played all their life together. With 2 of the sop. 1 jun. and 2 seniors they will be just fine.

I think the mixture will be good. Staton will add alot to the team. And don't forget the eight graders, McCoy, and Howard will help. THey will be a running and gunning team.

I agree that McCoy and Howard will help, but don't forget the other 8th grader JJ Bevins....she is really good at the point

yes all 3 of the 8th graders will be a fine addition to BHS,but lets not forget that the high school team still has Kanas Reed,Catlin Trout,Paige Thacker,Emily Lovell,Katie Hubbard, all of whom will play before the younger girls I believe. There day will come then they can excel as Lady Pirates

I forgot Megan Staten she will see alot of varisty action as a freshman

I watched Emily Lovell play this summer and she was a great point guard.i know she was out last year due to a hurt back.
I also came into practice about a month ago when they scrimmaged the middle school girls and she was an all around excellent point guard but I heard she was out for the past couple of weeks with a heart condition anyone know any truth to this?
if so my prayers are with her.

She is out with a heart condition. Everyone's prayers should be with her. As for Belfry, they are more of a run and gun team, although Lovell is a fairly good point guard, her style of play does not fit with the rest of the team as she likes to play more of a half court set (as Gannon did), while the team thrives when they get down the court and get points off turnovers instead of setting up the half court play. I think by the way they played this summer, Collins will allow the team to do what they do best, play the game and leave the plays for when they are needed, like out of bounds plays.

My thoughts and prayers to Emily and her family..Great young lady and great athlete..I've always enjoyed watching her play.

Best wishes to Lovell. Hope she does better and gets to play this season. Will get to see what style Coach Collins is going to be playing. First scrimmage this weekend at JC panaroma. Good luck Belfry

Belfry will struggle early on IMO
11-15-2006, 07:37 PM
I think Belfry will struggle the first game or two but I can see it coming together as the season goes. Moon, Robinette, and Deskins know each other game as well as they know their own. They will have to be the anchor for this young team, after losing so many seniors.
