If I am not mistaken, didnt Jenkins win class 1A in '56?? Not for sure if that is the year or not
11-09-2006, 01:16 AM
They may have won a EKMC title in 56, or it could have been a "mythical" championship, as that's what they're refered to if it's a so called state championship team before 1959, when they actually had a game to decide who was the best in classes 1-3

One of my former Coaches told me about Lynch East Maine...It was a school in Harlan....it was my coaches hometown...He said they closed their doors in the mid to late 70's umm never did say why but he said they were a dynasty program there with their championships.

It was in the town of Lynch.

Best team in 1a of all time: Pikeville 1987.
Couldve beaten the majority of teams on this list in all classes.

What statement is that? They beat 4A semi finalist Henry Clay on their home field that year.

I know it does sound rediculous for a small 1A team to be able to beat a 4A school, but in 1987 the Panthers team was ranked #1 in the state in ALL classes, they were also ranked in the top 10 i think nationally in 1A as well, so I wouldn't really doubt it for a second that the 87' team could possibly be one of the, if not the, best team thats came along so far in KY football... The rooster for that Panther team was basically nothing but men

The way he said it, is that he was stating they could have beaten any team in any given year regardless of class.
That's an absurb statement.

Hm I don't really see how that's absurd, anything is possible, but we'll never know, I guess it comes down to opnion basically

We didn't play in the regular season. My sophmore(85) and junior(86) years though, Russell scrimmaged Pikeville in the preseason. They were a very good one A team and we had a decent AAA team. The scrimmages were pretty even.
They were a very good A team. One of the best teams ever I don't know. The fact that they won three state titles in a row from 87-89 was even more impressive than just the 87 team.

Repeated championships are impressive, but the 87 team was what was most impressive out of the three titles, the first team to win it was stacked like no other

I'm pretty sure Highlands and Trinity are tied at 16 state titles a piece.
