Anyone heard this rule?
#1
Never in my life have I ever heard this penalty called, so I was just wondering if anyone else has. At the LCC and Rock game the other night, a LCC lineman was called for cut blocking. The refs said that "you are not allowed to cut block while the QB is in the shotgun." Anyone else ever heard this?
#2
never heard it and i doubt it is a real rule.
#3
I never had but Im pretty sure Ive heard of something similar to that
#4
They said you can't cut out of the box and when the QB goes into the shotgun he is out of the box. I have seen this offense most of my life and never seen that called.
#5
it was never called on any of my lineman during my two year enciunter with the offense. you know that hazzbeen
#6
Yeah we might have been in trouble if they did...haha. Don't think it would have mattered in the game, but cutting was the only chance they had against rocks big lineman. Once they knew they couldn't be cut, they brought the heat.
#7
You are aloud to do that...that was just a crazy call right there
#8
I have seen that called several times. It is one of those rules that is not always enforced.

You can cut within the tackle box on the initial surge off the ball. It is the officials judgement on where the box ends while the play is going on. Some will alow more room than others. One thing that might have happened was, when a def. lineman is engaged with a off. lineman, another off. lineman cannot go below the waist on the def lineman. This is a chop block.

Nope. They called cut blocking while in the shotgun, period. You cannot cut within the tackle box unless the QB is under center according to the referees at rock. Any officials on here?
#11
That is exactly what we were told, "you cannot cut if the quarterback is not under center."
#12
Are you all sure it wasnt "Chop Blocking" ?
#13
Yes I am sure...I asked the official myself.
#14
Well then Ive never heard of "Cut Blocking" ! Was the game played @ Rockcastle Co ?
#15
Yep.
#16
That may be ur answer then !

#18

couple of these comments got me thinking... we had ref tell us it was legal to "spear" someone... by this I mean.. literally, pick up the RB, lift him up to his chest, and then force/slam (basically he body slammed him) him to the ground and lay on him! He picked up him under the butt and could have easily tackled him as he is NOT a big kid at all! MAYBE 95 lbs. There was no penalty called what so ever! When they were asked about it one ref said yeah.. that's illegal and then the other walks over and say "nope, that is a clean tackle, they can do it all night long"....

sometimes calls like that one the thread is about and the one I just mentioned makes ya wonder where some of these "made up as ya go" rules come from don't it??

the correct definition of a spear would be when someone is down on the ground and you lead in with your helmet. the tackle that you just talked about IS definately a legal way to tackle. thats why there is so much emphasis on bringing the hips on tackling
#22
bringing him down on his head and using your weight to "ram" him into the ground is legal?? HUM.... thanks for the info!!
#23
it is legal whether you like it or not. not trying to be a smart rear end but its the truth.
#24
This is a problem acrossed the state and the rule is view differently by different officaials. Some say yes you can some say you can't i have even been told that if the Qb is 7 yards or futher you can't cut. this is one rule that all officails need to get together on and get the right ruling. It has cost teams several penalties and no one can get a clear explanation on the rule when you ask

I think you're allowed to hit like phs was talking about...you're just not allowed to go in head first. As long as you don't lead with your helmet it's legal.

Thanks everyone for clearing that up... there were 2 different versions of the rule on the field.. THAT is what I intended to get across and got sidetracked!! One ref said one thing and the other said something else!!
