MR.FOOTBALLS WEEK 5 TOP 5 2A !(check it out)
#1
I am a coach and I see alot of games and talk to alot of coaches and people so I base on the facts, not a stinking point system that allows teams that are 1-3 to be in my elite.I base on returning key players, Stats, and who you beat and who they beat from preseason to the present. I talk to football coaches who have seen or played these teams and coaches generally have a pretty good hypothesis. My ratings is kind of like a small personal coaches poll you could say.
SO, HERE IT IS:
1- MERCER CO.- I said it from the get-go, The absolute juggernaut of 2-A football. 5-A might be a lil' different story but undisputed in 2-A. Beat LCA 63-0 who handled Raceland 21-10 who in tern beat Ashland. Rushed for 500 yards against South Laurel in a 55-6 thrashing, South beat Corbin the following week. Now the 28-14 win over Boyle co. I predict the Boyle game will be their 2nd closest game of the season, Closest will be=
2-Louisville Western- Possibly the most atheletic team in the state. Collins and Darden both rushed for over 200 yards last week in a 49-6 win over Lou.C.A. Beat 4-A Lou.Butler 67-34 and the impressive win at Breathitt county 35-14. The 2 best in 2A will have to meet in the regionals and Western will make it a battle. Western has the speed to make this game The 2-A Title before Louisville.
3-Middlesboro- Talked to 3 coaches who have seen them or played them and all have said That this could be the most talented 'Boro team ever. The yellowjackets avg. 48 points per game and have 2 running backs that are 3 years starters. Coach Roark also feels this team could have more speed than his statechampionship team had and Roark is one of the best! I predict right now that Middlesboro is in the semi's and they'll be playing=
4- Sheldon Clark- Second guess me all you want but the fact of the matter is the Cardinals have their best backfield ever. I really like the cardinals to play Middlesboro in the semi's. This is the cardinals year to get Belfry, You heard it first here Sheldo clark easilycould be on the carpet, Yes they are good enough.
5-Breathitt county- I talked to a former coach who is a friend of coach Preston at Lou. Western. He said Coach Preston of louisville Western said he wouldn't be surprised at all if Breathitt made it to Louisville. He also said they played him tough and they would make a run come playoff time. Now I know alot wont agree with this one but if one of the best teams in 2A's coach says "Breathitt has a hell of a football team and They could be in Louisville, well enough said. I think the bobcats lose 2 more and Middlesboro will be the spoiler in possible o.t. games.

#DECIDING FACTORS= 1-THE CUP-CAKE SYNDROM- Russel's blow-threw district will haunt them in the playoffs. Possibly the 3 worste 2-A teams in 2a in that district. 2-HARD TO BEAT A GOOD TEAM TWICE-I see Belfry winning the district, But Sheldon Clark getting them in game 2(playoffs):argue: Confusedhh:  :redboxer: I coach 4a now but I coached 2A for a couple years and still love 2A football.

So you base your rankings on the word thru the grapevine?????

Yelp, I'm convinced, this is the least accurate poll I've seen.

You've probably got Mercer Co. right and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, imo, but Breathitt Co. is probably a top 10 AA team at best. Middlesboro, maybe Top 5, and Sheldon Clark will be tough but that is no where near the best backfield or team the Cardinals have had.

Western is just WKY's latest flop in the AA.

TongueirateSho Sheldon Clark is good and could give Belfry a very good game, but Coach Hager is'nt ready to beat his Alma Mater just yet. I believe Belfry by 2 touchdowns.:blondeche

I see it a little different
1- Mercer they beat boyle on a beatable year
2- Russell Clark is great and too disciplined no matter who they play
3- Belfry No way it wont be a russell belfry matchup
4- Western Same ole story never a lock always somebody chokes out
5- Middlesboro they will handle breathitt easy
state championship will be mercer against russell statechampion will be russell
#5
And Middlesboro's and Breathitts district is that tough???? Uh no.

Mercer's district is waaayy down this year is well. Outside of Newport noone in that district will require the Titans to play their starters past halftime.

Belfry will handle Sheldon Clark twice. Too much depth for the Cardinals.

I think more coaches imput is needed in this poll.

This is a bigger joke than the AP poll, Lit, Cantrell, and all the other's combined. You admittedly used PRESEASON games in your scenarios. Who goes all out in a preseason game? And secondly, you're using a this team beat this team so this team should beat this team formula which we all know in highschool football isn't worth the time of day to talk about. Yes, it's good to get a comparison, but this is HIGHSCHOOL football. A team may play their best game of the season one week and play their worst the next. You're not considering factors such as injuries or progression of a team, either.

Russell's weak district schedule really killed them last year. We all know how that ended up. Belfry has had so much trouble beating teams in their district come playoff time (2005 beat Sheldon Clark twice, 2004 beat Prestonsburg twice, 2003 beat Prestsonsburg twice, 2002 didn't play anyone twice, 2001 loss to Prestonsburg twice, 2000 didn't play anyone twice, 1999 didn't play anyone twice). The last time Belfry played a district team during the regular and post season and the outcome reversed was in 1998 with Sheldon Clark. So that makes that point pretty much mute.

If I were going to do a top 5 2A rankings, mine would look like this:

1. Mercer County - Seemingly unstoppable team in 2A this season
2. Belfry - Great all around team that keeps progressing each game
3. Lou. Western - Great talented players, but individuals won't get you to Louisville, just ask Fort Campbell
4. Russell - Need to find some more offensive firepower besides Kasey Clark to move up the polls. Tyler Jones may just be that answer.
5. Sheldon Clark - A team to be feared and never underestimated. This could be their season to finally undermine the Pirates.

Mercer, I dont be seeing a threat, you join two schools... do you have a winning program do they play well together, from last week not great...if Russell and Ashland joined schools would you have a powerhouse, probably not first couple of tries.their moving to 5 A so it really doesnt matter. I see Russell and Fort Campbell../ :1:

I Agree With Mercer But That Is Where It Stops. I Believe That You Could Make A Case In That Russell And Belfry May Be Pretty Even Come Playoff Time. I Just See One Of Those Two Going To The Carpet Again To Defend The Eastern Part Of The State.

I agree it will be Belfry or Russell on the carpet again. It wouldn't surprise me if one of them win it all again.
#11
Whoever wins the Russell Belfry matchup...WINS STATE...Russell back to back or Belfry 3 out of 4 years...
#12
I think these are pretty good predictions...cut him some slack...it cant always be perfect and of course evryone has different opinions..but for the most part what he has is pretty good

(secret phone conversation MAY have went like this))))))
Hey Mercer C0, We (the state) wish for a champion to come out of the WESTERN part of the state this year and was wondering if you would merge with Harrodsburg?-----ANswers back..." What would we gain by doing that?" The voice continues on ther other end of the phone..... " We will let you guys stay in AA this season, and bring a victory back for the West... We are tired of Belfry, Breathitt and Russell in the championship. This way you are guarenteed to win ONE and take it away from the East."
"So are you intersted ?????? OH I forgot to tell you.... After you win this year you will have to play in the new 5A class next year"------long pause-----
"Sure we will do it. Get the trophy ready and we will see you in December. "
The previous scenerio is pure Fantasy,,,,,, and of course has not happened, This is just a scenerio to indicate why MERCER will win the 2006 AA state Championship....

Oh yeah, I'm sorry Merger Co is unbeatable. Just like Ft Campbell last year,,,,,,
Uh oops sorry, The unbeatable got beat last year. I guess I'll just have to take your word on that no football team in the country can stay within 50 points of the mighty, mighty Merger Co Titans. :flame:
