Since there was already a Pugh vs. Hughes thread on here, why not have a Pugh vs. Mayo thread? I figure this one might be a little more interesting. Who would you rather have on your team?

Right now, Pugh, cuz Mayo is hurt

Mayo was injured in game one of the season and may not return this year.
However, I would still love to have him on my team as a leader...as an example for other players to follow in the classroom, on the field, and in life.
A true leader is one who is followed without demanding it.

Never seen Mayo at his best so I'd say Pugh !

id take mayo... hes extremely dedicated... and he is a natural born leader

I'll take Pugh. Mayo is a great player though.

Pugh

You guys must be kidding. There is no comparison between these two players. Mayo has started maybe 3 games at quarterback. Pugh has started almost 40 games with 5 reg.season games remaning plus he will probably have at least 1 play off game this season. If you don't think he can lead a team you're full of yourself. He's never had an outstanding coach since he's been here. He has had a lot of success and has overcome this obstacle. He is a born leader. I don't know anyone getting out of line on a team he's been on. He can take care of business.

More importantly, he is probably the nicest kid I've ever met. If his football career is over, that's too bad. Knowing the kid though, he will still be doing everything he can to help the Panthers on a deep run into the playoffs. Pugh appears to be a heck of an athlete. I've never met him so I can't comment on what kind of individual he is. All I do know is that when they met head to head last season, Mayo led the Panthers to victory in the second half when the Tigers were supposed to have the better team. Both kids would be great additions to any team. On a personal note: John Michael, if you read this, good luck to you in all that you undertake. If your season is over, remember that there are more important things ahead of you to accomplish. When I hear folks talk of the "Big Red", it won't be Belfry I think of.

I guess I'll throw my opinion out there since I started this thing. If I'm picking the better QB, I'm taking Pugh, hands down. The guy runs a 4.5 forty and is as good an athlete as you'll find in Class A football. However, if I'm picking the better football player, I'm taking Mayo. Guy not only can command the offensive huddle in a very complicated Wing-T scheme, but also is a Division-1 caliber defensive player.

I like a nice juicy burger, with MAYO........... Just teasing guys, I have never heard of him but I have seen film on Pugh........ How are they compared to each other.??? Pugh is just impressive to watch. Hows the other kid?????????????????

ill take mayo because of his leadership and respect he commands when on and off the field. ive never seen a harder working young man in all my days. pugh seems to be the kid that when his team is down and he is getting hit in the face he kinda rolls over.
but maybe we will get a head to head in the last game of the season. who knows.

I just think these threads are just props to Mr. Pugh. Seems like everyone is wanting to compare their stud player to him.

i haven't seen mayo but from what i have seen from pugh....OVERRATED!!!...DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING VS...A VERY DOWN PBURG TEAM....DIDN'T DELIVER THE BALL WITH ANY ACCURACY OR ZIP AT ALL....DECISION MAKING LEFT SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED AS WELL

Yeah I really dont understand why people are comparing Pugh to the rest of Eastern KY...It just doesn't make sense...ok he's a good quarterback but it's awfully hard to compare him to other quarterbacks around here

I would love to see a healthy #8 out there this season, but I'd rather see him in med school or law school in a few years. Multiple concussions aren't quite the same as breaking a finger or spraining an ankle. The brain takes a lot longer to heal. I'm sure that he and his family will take a long, careful look at whether the risk and long term effects are acceptable or not.

How can you compare a 4 year starter to a kid that started all of 3 games.(Harlan, Somerset, Henry Clay)? I don't see how you can honestly say that you would pick Mayo after all that Pugh has done up to this point. Let's take off the tinted glasses (those of the blue and marroon color) and really look at this. My God, Pugh scored 10 touchdowns in one game! A playoff game at that, and everyone of them was needed. No disrespect the the Pikeville program or Mayo, but Pugh is putting up numbers that very few players ever will. Mayo probably is a fine young man and good high school player, I wish him the best, but its not fair to compare the two.

pugh is the best in the mountains. and most of the state.
if he was playing for trinity ir st.x he would be the best in the state.

Pugh is a great athlete but if you would ask a few Pikeville people they would tell you they would choose Mayo as a leader and as a teammate.
I wonder how many Paintsville basketball players would choose Pugh as a teammate and a leader.
