Graham Shutts to Paintsville
#1
Graham Shutts (young standout from Prestonsburg) has officially transferred to Paintsville. So happy for him. He’ll get to showcase his talent tremendously under coach Slone. HUGE loss for Prestonsburg who will be absolutely depleted this upcoming season.

I hate to see Shutts go, but I can't blame him. He didn't get near the opportunities he should've had last season to shoot the ball, and it's clear things aren't very positive around the basketball program at Prestonsburg right now.

Kid shoots 45% from 3 and winds up 5th on the team in shot attempts. I'm no basketball coach, but that's head scratching.

Keathley is still training at Prestonsburg, so I'm assuming he's not transferring. I hope the kid stays, just not sure how I feel about Tackett running the boys' program right now. The interest in boys' basketball at Prestonsburg is at a low point, and although I'm not close to the program in any way, I can tell something needs to change to breathe new life back into basketball at Pburg. Our best athletes aren't playing basketball. You have a talented 2029 class coming in, and you've already lost one of those kids to Paintsville, and I'm not entirely sure if the others plan to play basketball or not.

Maybe the next principal makes a change. Idk.

Big move for Paintsville replaces Kinner who could really shoot it for them last year. Shutts is a lights out shooter had big games in region and district last season

Keathley staying is interesting, the new car must not have done the job from Tommys Auto for the cardinals might need to get upgrade from pops Chevy or something closer to home

The thing about it outside looking in at pBurg is  Keathley but year in and out it’s transfer transfer rumor after rumor last year it was Valley / Pikeville now it’s Martin and cars and houses apts earlier in summer it was prep school then that was found to be untrue on all accounts in anyway
What’s next for Keathley who knows but he is so talented he deserves the recognition.

Stability is needed from the top down to the players for sure

Can’t blame Shutts for leaving if your young and talented and their is no stability hope the young group from Adams that seems to be the next bunch sticks together for the Blackcats

Good for the kid to go somewhere that he will definitely be needed with Paintsville losing a shooter

The rest of it who cares where anyone goes
If it’s not these places in no order they are the teams that can win it
JC
Paintsville
Lawerance
Pikeville
Outside shot….

This is a great pickup for Paintsville. Shutts feels a big need for them and that starting 5 will be as good as anybody in the region

Keatley's been working out at Martin a lot as well... and if he stays at Pburg are they gonna return all those "gifts" they got??

Shutts is a great addition to Paintsville. As last season progressed, so did the improvement & development of his play. Stepped up in some huge moments down the stretch, had a great district tournament. Going into a great situation as a freshman as his confidence keeps getting higher & higher.

With this loss does this mean that Pburg lost pretty much every player that seen any PT last season either to transfer or graduation besides Keathley? Does anyone else return that could help them besides Keathley? I feel bad for the new coach. Seems like he stepped in to a situation where he was 10 feet under water when he took the position.

Eh, the coach knew what he was getting himself into. What I find funny is the principal that put Prestonsburg in this mess bolted. Some of the influences into these coaching hires have bolted.

Prestonsburg could’ve made a statement this past season by putting their foot down and made it a team environment. You want to build a program around a kid like Keathley because of his talent. However if that talent isn’t made to play within a system, you lose interest from kids that could’ve played. Now because things were allowed to go on the way they were, you’ll be lucky to have enough to field a team PLUS you likely lose the number 1 scorer in the state a week before school starts.

Thacker had the opportunity to make a splash with the basketball hire when Parsley left but instead this is where we stand. A guaranteed sub-10 win season, a school without a principal, and a community that don’t even care if basketball exists.

Just from an outsider perspective Shawn Hager will be the next basketball coach at Prestonsburg if the current coach resigns. Or wonder if Brandon Kidd would take it and hire someone for the girls job? You said make a splash hire but who is running to Prestonsburg to coach basketball?

Prestonsburg returns Teagan Slone that started nearly every game last season from what I recall. He ran point mostly and had some great games.

They have Braydon Maines, Christian Click, and Sam Hyden coming up from the middle school who can play.

If Keathley stays you’ll have a solid 5-6 dudes, but losing Shutts hurts because he would’ve complimented Keathley’s style of play well.

Whoever the coach is has to figure out a way to get the football players back out for basketball. Your best athletes have to play all the sports to remain competitive at small schools like Prestonsburg.

Aj johnson and Logan Stumbo both played in middle school and the Hatfield brothers too. You got the athletes if they’d come out.

They’ll be good contributors in a couple of years, but I’m not sure as freshmen it’ll be good. I don’t think they even won the county championship. Again, there’s talent to build off of but it’s still a couple years from seeing how big of an impact.

The problem is if Keathley stays, you’ll have less kids come out. This is coming directly from parents. Then if he does leave, you’ll see kids that haven’t played at the high school level come out and give it a try. It’s honestly a double edged sword. Glad we’re out of it is all I can say.
