Somerset has no business playing McCreary Central.

Somerset needs a QB. When you have two that can’t separate the gap, you don’t have one. Figure that part out, they’ll be good.
They don’t, they’ll lose 5-6 games this season. And that’s not good for the Somerset faithful. I ain’t trying to talk smack, but objectively, they have to figure that part out fast.

Now playoffs maybe another story. But I’m sure they be solid.

I expect Jumpers to have a solid season with that schedule, very interested in their first 2 games.
But Definitely a rebuild season at the QB, they’ll figure something out

Somerset will be fine. I see 7 to 8 wins

They have to play South Laurel, Southwestern, Hazard, and Paris. No one of those games will be a gimme regardless of the defense. They won’t be able to rely on #17 to carry them to wins in those games alone. 3 of those 4 games are early. And losses won’t settle well within.
I’ll eat all the crow they want to serve but even within the district, Green and Metcalfe won’t roll over for them.
We will see.

I think that schedule is missing a game. The schedule that I saw has them playing East Ridge in the South Laurel Bowl on 8/29.

It was originally supposed to be on Saturday but changed to Friday.

Interested to see this season play out. New district opponents, heading westward as opposed to the Appalachian teams from the past few years.
Somerset's defense should be very stout, losing a few key pieces to graduation including Koger and Gulock, as well as I. Lewis on the backend, but enough impact players are returning to make them arguably a top 5 defense in 2a heading into 2025.
Offense returns their biggest playmaker in Hughes, and I predict an even heavier reliance on him this season to carry them. That said, they should not rest on their laurels and need to find other guys who are able to breakout and make a difference early on. Boyd should see some work at tailback and is dangerous in space, and Taylor County transfer Lofton will be the biggest question coming into the season. Will he be ready to make an immediate impact, and if so at what positions? I have heard he is trending to start at QB but not officially.
Excited to be in the booth this season for another year of Somerset football coverage!
