14th region tournament
#61
Couldn't ask for a better opening round of the 14th region tournament. All games had some excitement , and with all four district winners losing shows that just because you are the favorite, doesn't exactly mean you will win the game.. Semi-finals will be interesting as well.... Huge crowd all day long .... Wolfe Co has a great facility to host regional tournament for baseball.

I could not imagine that this has ever happened in the history of the 14th region in either basketball or baseball where every district runner-up won in the first round of the region. It is absolutely insane when you think about it. I would have liked to seen the odds on a parlay with all those teams winning in the first round. The most suprising game to me was Powell over Breathitt in a stomping. Powell struggled all season but picked a great time to wake the bats up. Hazard let Knott hang around and it came back to bite them. Let Meehan play his style and they can beat anyone. Wolfe at home makes a difference. Yesterdays first round games were great @wolfe they did a great job and had an awesome crowd all day. Wednesday will be interesting and I can say I am excited about 14th region baseball for the first time in a long time.

I've been following it from the west end of the state because I knew it would be one of the most intriguing regions. It hasn't disappointed. Wish there was a way to watch or listen to the games.

R14 got a good draw for the state tournament and has a decent shot to win a couple of games, especially the first one with a #1 pitcher.

The 14th region is one of the most media-covered regions in the state. Ur hard pressed to go to a basketball gym or Friday night football and there not be several streaming and tv stations at the game. For the baseball regional tournament games check out the following:

WSGS- Facebook and YouTube
Bluegrass Sports Nation- Facebook and YouTube
Hometown24- Facebook and YouTube

All of these stations do a great job with streaming games... I prefer the audio commentators at WSGS but the quality of picture of Hometown24 and Bluegrass Sports Nation so I sometimes combine the 2 on my tv and phone. Either way there will be plenty of options for you to watch the semis and finals

I knew it had been some time since we had a winner not Hazard, Breathitt, or Estill. Crown a new Champion this year.

Hard to believe Perry only has 4, but a lot of their teams that could have, should have won were beaten by Hazard in their big streak.

Hometown24 is not doing baseball or softball regionals

So there has never been a state champion come out of the 14th in baseball, wow

with the old format before 2021 it was almost impossible to win it with a small team. Had to win 4 games in 5 days. Now it’s back to back weekends so with 2-3 arms you can compete. But big schools have an abundance of D1 athletes year in and year out. Can tell a huge difference between eastern ky kids and Lexington/louisville/BG kids
#72
Yeah I could see a huge difference in them when Whitley won the State Title back in 2023. Some pretty good talent in East KY. Don’t got to be from Lex, Lou, or BG to be D1 athlete.

Think it’s Wolfe’s tournament to lose now. Powell burnt their big arm last night.
#74
Other than the Powell/Breathitt game, it has been a heck of a tournament. I think Wolfe has the better chance tonight, but it only takes one game. Who would have thought Powell would be in the position to win a region earlier this year?

I think Wolfe Co is favorite hands down . But Powell still has #2 pitcher and they been hit ball well too.  Won’t be surprised if Powell wins . I would like see Wolfe Co win their first regional title . But they have they’re hands full tonight with Powell County.

It’s been a fun road. I didn’t expect us to be in this situation. The credit goes to the kids. They have bought into a system that we have to play and they have paid attention to a ton of details in order to play this way. Selfless baseball. A month ago if you told me we would be standing where we are today I’d laughed and walked away. But these kids have played well and play as a team. We might not be the most talented team on the field tonight. But we are going to fight like hell and keep punching and hope at the end we are on top.

Gonna be a tight game, but whichever team wins, what a way to end probably the most entertaining 14th region tournament ever. Either crown a 1st time region champion, or crown a team that every one counted out just a few weeks ago. Gonna be a fun watch!

Win or lose tonight, has Frank Spencer's seat as Powell baseball coach cooled off any?
#79
I think win or lose Frank will step away this year. No insider information here but that’s just how I feel.

Fantastic region tournament.

I have seen other posts from other regions, but not the 14th. I do know Williams from Letcher won POY in the 14th, but that was because BSN said during the game. Who were the other players named to the East/West teams from the 14th? Was there an all-region team? Just curious to see the names on the list. There are some good players in the 14th, and I would like to see them get publisized.
