#61
Can Turner needs to stick to coaching golf.

Been real quiet. Early on you heard Matt Taylor, Brian Hall and Tyson Gross mentioned but nothing solid and I read they just poster it a couple days ago.

Man that’d be a big slap in the face for Owsley. Gross has wanted that job forever then up and leave after 1 year…. Bout like their previous coach done as well

May not be true. With both nephews going to Rupp in two different years, people my just be speculating.

Owsley is a mess right now ice heard. Their AAU team with a bunch of kids from their split up. Nothing to do with their school coach but some of that could carry over I’m afraid. He’s a good coach though. Played breathitt close in all a gave them a good game. Nice guy. I just don’t know how parents will feel with who he brings.

heard Scott county’s old coach applied for it. So there’s that.

Tyson Gross isn’t going anywhere. He was out raising money with a bucket shake for the youth programs just this past weekend. And I talked to him. He told me his focus is getting the Owls ready for summer play and he should have a pretty good team in 2025-26. He has all starters back and three more Owsley kids have returned that had been playing elsewhere.
#68
Everyone can say they’re not going somewhere and all their focus is on the next season. But I bet he’s applied, maybe interviewed, who knows. But I’m gonna bet if he’s offered he’ll go.
#69
What has he done at Owsley to get a job like Breathitt?
#70
I’m hearing Denny Fugate is coming out of retirement again!!!

Gross actually did a decent job this past season with some really young kids. They were young but disciplined.
Do I think Breathitt would hire him now, not likely. I had forgotten about the Scott County Coach and apparently he has a son that’s a pretty good player.

I don’t think so. He will possibly have as much or more talent in the next few years at Owsley as he would if he were at Breathitt. That is unless Flinchum doesn’t transfer to the Bobcats, which is something that was posted on here by someone.

I am hearing a lot of noise about Robert Paul Amis returning to Jackson for another stint. Apparently negotiations on money and a specific teaching job are hurdles at this point. If they can come to terms and meet in the middle, he will be the next head coach.

I'm curious if Breathitt would consider Helton for the job. Helton had a stellar record as the girls' coach, but his performance as the boys' varsity coach was less impressive.

I've heard they have made a pretty pedestrian hire.

I think Cam Turner, an assistant coach on last year’s team, would be a good choice to lead the Bobcats.

Why would Breathitt want a kid that left them for Perry County?  Needs to go coach up on the Hill.

two years as an assistant isn’t near enough experience to be a head coach.  I doubt they go that route but you never know.

I agree but somebody has to give somebody a chance at some point in their career.

Just curious what has he done to prove he’s a qualified coach? I genuinely just don’t know him so not trying to be rude. Khsaa has something in there about hiring most qualified candidates. I know not every place does it that way but I feel like that’s why assistants don’t typically get jobs you could think they were in line for.  It may have changed. But especially in a program like breathitt. He was better off trying to get a job at a smaller school then going for it later. Who knows though. I just don’t know enough about him to know what makes him qualified in the two years he was an assistant. Did he coach somewhere else before?

Get a job a smaller school, get his brains kicked in… makes him qualified? Name 1 school in the region that gets the most qualified candidate and not who the parents and staff wants… but on the other hand he is young and not very experienced. Coached against him in freshman and he was a good coach, coached well on the court but can get a little loud.

Helton will be hire here. If not Helton, it’s because he got job closer to home.
#83
Do they have a time frame to name a coach? Summer ball is starting soon.

Job was closed Thursday I think. Should be hiring this week sometime.

Denny Fugate that is interesting

Did they say when they would hire
#86
I heard from a couple of Breathitt fans that Scott County’s Helton was the front-runner. I would surmise they will have someone in place this week. Summer play is getting ready to kicked into gear very soon and the ship needs a captain.

Helton will land this job and his son is a pretty good player as well.

Probably Robert Amis back for another go-round. But in all fairness…..probably more suited for head coaching position than before.
#89
BILLY KNOWS!!! Robert Paul Amis is almost a done deal to return to Jackson for another stint.

I’m hearing Denny Fugate if he says yes. I also heard the Scott Co guy dropped out.
