Elisha Justice with Shawn Newsome of Allen Central coming in a close second.

Two that stick out the most are Elisha Justice & Landon Slone.
With the history that Paintsville has, look at the all-time leading scorer JR Vanhoose, not taking anything away from everything he accomplished, but he played a lot of Varsity as a 7th&8th grader, so he had 6 years of Varsity playing time. Landon is 2nd all-time leading scorer and done it in 4 years. He could score at any level on the court, a great 3-point shooter, but could also get to the basket and loved the mid-range. He had a work ethic unlike anyone else in the region when he played, that right there is what separated him from everyone else.
Elisha certainly had all the accolades, Mr. Basketball & State Champion, but just the way he conducted everything for those Valley teams was special to watch, a true point guard. Scored when he needed to, he had some big-time buckets in that State Championship, but the way he would facilitate, he literally knew all the spots his teammates excelled at and he just had an incredible ability to find the open man, and he was great defensively too, quick laterally and active hands.
There's been a lot of great talent in this region the last 25 years, but those 2 names I think have been the best.

Easy answer here, Elisha Justice. Guy won Mr. Basketball and led his team to a state championship, not to mention 3 regional crowns and 2 All-A titles.
On a side note, 15 years later I still have great memories of that team. Hard to believe little ole Shelby Valley was able to win an all-class state championship. One of my best sports memories was watching them beat Ballard in the final game. That bunch may not have been the most talented team to take the court (other schools had multiple D1 players), but they could put on a clinic of how to play "team ball". Such a pleasure to watch.

You know Shaq was recruited for his size right. 7 footer at almost 300 pounds. Because if he were 5 ft 8 he would never sniff a basketball court. What kind of nonsense are you spewing? James was an absolute cheat code on defense. I seen games where opposing teams would drive to the lane and go to shoot and get a traveling call because they wouldn’t let go of the ball. He’s the best big in the 15th since vanhoose and that isn’t up for debate.(02-22-2025, 10:48 PM)IntheZone Wrote: Elisha JusticeTrey James?…

If you are a 6’10” center in the 15th Region and don’t absolutely dominate, you’re not gonna be on this list. He didn’t come close to dominating. I watched 6’2” centers out rebound him on multiple occasions. Don’t start with the D1 scholarship nonsense. He was recruited cause of his size.

If he played his senior year of high school he would have set a block shot record that no one should have ever touched so yes I think he dominated the region defensively for sure. I know you are not a fan of Martin County and that okay but the kid was one of the best since 2000. I guess Pitino just recruits every 7 footer in the nation ?
Also failed to mention Rylee sammons and Timmy dalton somehow forgot those two who were definitely some of the best this region have seen no doubt.

That’s just right off the top of my head.
I’m sure some other schools have some good lineups as well.
