Clay takes a tough loss at home to a very good knox team.Clays shooting caught up with them as they shot 6-35 from three.Adon Grubb did his best to keep the tigers in it as he finished with 24 -17.Burton from knox is the real deal and summers caught fire in the 3rd qt for 14 pts.didnt see this one coming but hats off to knox central.Madden is a good coach and had a great game plan.congratulations to the panthers.

Central being dangerous just makes the 13th region tournament all the better. It should be one of the best, most wide open tournaments in recent memory.

Clay needs to figure out how to make Grubb the focal point of their offense. Of his 24 points I’d be willing to bet 75% of them came on offensive rebounds. He will score and/or get fouled if given the ball within 10-12 feet of the basket. KC sagged way off Roark and he nor the other guards could consistently hit a 3. Wagers couldn’t score inside either. Clay is going to have to win with defense if they’re going to have a shot to advance in the region but I’m not sure they have the personnel or depth to run the full court pressure they used a lot last year.

The way it looks, anyone can win that 13th region, going to be a really fun March.

Clays two best shooters are frankly, just shooters. Dezarn and Hooker have both made over 40 threes, but combined for 20 twos and under 20 free throws. They aren’t attacking threats so teams can put a weaker defender on them, leaving their stronger defenders for grubbs, Wagers, and Jackson. I sadly didn’t get to see any of this game, but I can imagine a tricky zone would severely disarm Clay. Any hybrid zone for that matter where they can have help inside with the big guys and still cover the shooters. Jackson is the player that has to make a difference for this bunch if they wanna be great. But 6-35 is atrocious lord god.
Knox is dangerous to an extent. They got to the line 27 times and destroyed the boards. That’s a good recipe for winning. This is without a doubt the biggest win for them, but you look and it’s like hot flashes across the season. Beat mad south by 30 and then follow it up with a bad loss to south and let Pineville score 80. Then the tri cities game, a team that you should beat at home when healthy at this point in the year. But if they keep making shots and rebounding i’m sure their region opponent will not be happy. They have a stretch against Whitley, Harlan County, and Bell County to prove who they are.

Most of the schematic stuff mentioned above is true. I will say Knox had an absurd moment in the game where they just lost their minds from deep for a moment and it stunned the Tigers. Contest or not everything was falling for a few minutes and they went from down 4 to up like 11 fast. Good ball club that when they get hot it’s trouble for the opponent.
Clay is better than they displayed in my opinion. As mentioned Grubb was cleaning up a lot of misses but regardless what they ended up with the other 5 guys the Tigers rely on were a full step below what they normally are. A lot of that is Panther defense but Clay also just missed a lot of open looks. Sometimes on the same possession after an offensive board.
