Russell/Ashland 1/2025
#1
What happened to the Russell/Ashland game that was on the schedule? Was it because of the cold? ? If so, I've never seen that before! I thought the visiting team was always the one to cancel. Did the home team just decide they didn't want to freeze their toes off? ?Maybe they were worried the players would turn into ice sculptures on the court and they wouldnt be able to rub fast enough to stay warm! ❄️⛄
Have you ever seen a game canceled for such a reason before?

Ky1976,
I think we probably should leave this topic alone. LOL!! I figure after the AIT events, Russell didn't want this game to be played. I think it was best for everybody involved.
#3
Haha, yeah, probably best to let that topic simmer for now! After all, after the AIT events, Russell might’ve looked at that matchup and thought, "You know what? Let's hit pause on this one." Honestly, probably a smart move for everyone involved. And as for the Neal kid, is he finally eligible? I’m starting to wonder if his eligibility is like one of those mythical creatures—always talked about, never quite seen. Maybe that’s the real reason they held off... save the drama for another day!

I’m guessing it was something a little less dramatic…like…a mutual agreement since neither school was in session that day.

It was not mutual. Russell cancelled.  Something about no activities on an NTI day. Cooksey only wants games that are 90% probability of a win. After the mass exodus of players that went back to West Virginia, his outlook on his schedule changed. The program will never get better if he runs from competition.

Cancelling all school functions/activities is common when you don't have school. Just looking at the glass as half full.....  And to be honest, they played and took their lumps in the AIT.  I'm willing to give them credit for not cancelling when they knew they wouldn't be competitive. Not sure another loss in Anderson gym would make them better at this point in time, but as always...I may be wrong.

I’m sure they are still salty after the video. I’m gonna say they graciously bowed out like they did when they refused to play a couple years back with the other situation about another player APB recruited. That is not opinion. That is fact

After your disgusting comment about less fortunate children in another post, your opinions are irrelevant and you should be removed from the site. What a pathetic human being.  I would encourage all others on this site to never respond to anything that comes out of your mouth.  I don’t know how you look at yourself in the mirror.

When was it originally scheduled for, Monday the 20th? If so, that was Martin Luther King Day, a day they had already planned on being out.

The game was scheduled for the 21st, but I wonder if this is about not wanting to play A-Town? My guess is yes. Or maybe they've just been sneaking in games when school isn't in session! ?
It's like they're thinking, "Let's play when no one's watching—less pressure, more fun!" ?
What do you think? Are they dodging A-Town?

Appalachian Cat,
I have to agree with assessment. But every coach has their own method of winning games. Some want to elevate their program through scheduling and win games while others want to win games through scheduling. I think it depends on if the coach is only about winning or developing players in the process of winning games. Everybody has their own way of doing things.

I'm hearing Neel kid is eligible now, and after the incident at the AIT (I was there and saw it) I'd guess Russell didn't want the possibility of a scene, and also probably pretty bitter he got eligible. Just my guess.

If Neel is eligible and gets to suit up for Varsity instead of JV. How will Bonner handle another starter who isn't getting to start? The locker room is obviously having issues as it is with the BJ not putting up with it. How will Neel handle it since he was a starter at another school since his 8th grade year and now is going to be a back up. Or does Bonner start him instead of one of the guys who has been starting? What about Davis who has been a starter for the past couple of years and getting the same treatment as BJ. Sound like those daddies will be fighting it out in the stands. I heard a little about the incident. It was downplayed a little or was it bigger then said.

Incident wasn't as bad as it could've been, basically Neel kid's dad was openly rooting against Russell vs Highlands from the stands (I heard/saw him) and one of the Russell coaches took exception and tried to confront him about it. It never got out of hand, as AD's and admins stepped in.

I figure with Jennings not playing anymore, that does free up Neel playing some. Neel is a good player, but I don't envy Bonner or Conway for having to deal with the Dad, he acts like a fool at games.

It will all blow over between them and everyone will move on.  It is no where near as bad or embarrassing as being escorted out of Morehead by the police.

I saw the video. That was about 30 min after the game. Due to Ashland fans acting a fool.

Nothing beats Steve Carter getting a police escort out of the gym in the middle of an actual game! Had to stop the game and get cops to remove him in Corbin last year! That’s not the first time either!

Saw the same thing happen to JS against Johnson Central, not sure what year I'd have to go back and look.

The way the Neel kid's dad acts I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen to him at some point.

Fans, especially parents are crazy these days. No team is exempt. Thankfully the young athletes tend to be the adults in the room. They have the ability to leave it on the court. Social media tends to throw fuel on the fire. I wish this forum did a better job of policing threads when they go south and serve no productive purpose.

I agree. I joined to see stats, game recaps, player match ups but more likely its 3-4 people arguing about parents and coaches. I would assume the majority of people who are being spiteful on here are more than likely the ones who scream refs or players at games.

someone should just delete this thread

No, I don't have the video. However, you can find it on youtube along with the other dad's who has been kicked out of games. I thought it was a really bad look on him. Two sheriffs stopping the game to escort him out of top of the bleachers to the exit. Are you saying it didn't happen? What is with the coaches at APB. The volleyball coach that got a DUI and was allowed to continue to coach. I hope he isn't driving the bus! Or the assistant football coach kickout of basketball games in Harlan and other gyms. Of course don't get me started on the baseball coach with the inappropriate interactions with a student, at least they did remove him from coaching. The basketball coach who was caught recruiting kids from other schools and talk horribly about his players. Now the assistant basketball coach who just got caught on video in another schools gym recruiting the kid trying to get eligible now. WHAT A MESS the lack of self-awareness is LEGENDARY!

That is odd.

the most recent years. APG is 1-0 this year and 1-3 last year. it being the most recent years...LOL you are freaking clown. I have no faith in you navigating the internet like you do your life. You are seriously disturbed and hope you get help soon. The clowns in the stand are at APB. You just keep collecting them like flies with you latest 3 additions. Schizophrenia? Wow, HOOPFAN, I didn't realize my multiple personalities were such slam dunks! ? Guess I'm just dribbling through life with an entire basketball team of me, and we're all playing in the championship game every day!  Just like the last 6 regional titles APB has won, all living rent-free in your head! And the possibility that you may never witness the thoughts of winning one with THE COUNTY? Oh, the tragedy, best to move on.  LOL this is fun!!!!!!!
