Ugly game. A lot of threes just getting thrown up.

I thought both teams fought hard from the tip. JC’s size bothered Valley and I think that was the difference. Shelby Valley is gonna have to figure out how to play hard and not foul. Once they get in foul trouble it takes their identity away which is aggressive in your face defense. With Caden Justice transferring to Pikeville (I guess it’s common thing to tranfser during the middle of the season now) they are working with a really short bench and foul trouble will take them out of a game. On a good note though, Brady Johnson is emerging as one of the top talents in the region. Kid is an athletic freak. Needs to work on his jumper and defense but can play and guard any position on the floor. There’s a lot to be excited about for this relatively young valley team. Back in action Friday at Buckhorn.

Valley jumped out big in first quarter. Shot 3 free throws in first quarter.
Didn’t shoot another one the entire game. Count was way upside down unsure on numbers exactly. Not a shocker in Johnson Co.
Don’t think they expected SV to be able to beat them once they saw first quarter whole game changed.
Brady Johnson and Bartley were on fire played great the other Johnson kid was holding his own with Slone defensively until all were sat on bench with fouls.
SV is going to be a team to deal with in February and definitely in the future. They are on the right path.
Agree the bench is limited they are all freshman basically bolds well for future but for current games it’s hard for them.

Got to watch this one on the Johnson Central live stream. The kids did a nice job calling the game! Very cool.
Officiating was pretty poor. Brandon Martin killed Shelby Valley when he stopped a fast break and 3 by Hamilton just because Slone had a cramp. Wild call and momentum killer. Martin shouldn’t have been on a fast paced game—especially since he couldn’t get up and down the court.
Johnson Central is consistently looking better as the season progresses. McKenzie kid has so much potential. He will be a killer in the years to come. Slone is physical and athletic and gets to the rim with ease. He can get a bucket whenever he wants.
Valley is a tough team. Bartley owned the glass despite his size. Brady Johnson is break out player of the year for sure.. where has this kid been?

Could the refs made a few more foul calls on JC? Absolutely. But SV "defense" was foul every time somebody drove and hope they don't call it. The entire 2nd half Slone was getting whatever he wanted going 1v1 to the basket because SV couldn't just grab him.
I like what Coach Taylor is doing down there but they've got to learn to play defense without the constant grabbing.

SV defense does grab and go for the ball a lot which causes a lot of foul calls. But they are undersized compared to pretty much every other team and playing aggressive, handsy defense mitigates size for the most part till the fouls start piling up. They’re doing what works for them and sometimes it works out and some times it don’t. But yes I agree they need to figure out how to play more without there hands to be be able to compete for a full game.(01-23-2025, 11:40 AM)Buddy Holly Wrote: I thought both teams fought hard from the tip.
