I concur. Hazard vs Harlan County will be a battle if it plays out that way. Huff and Cottrell vs Caudill and Eversole. Who will be the 3rd player to push it over the top?

Looks pretty on-point to me.

Harlan-Hazard would be a great game.

This years games going to be televised?

Didn’t Hazard beat Harlan this summer? I know I watched them play at memorial but can’t exactly remember the outcome.

Should be on WYMT's secondary channel and streamed online through their website.

Not sure, but the least important statistic from summer ball is the score lol

Who won the Knott Vs Harlan game

Harlan County.
It was close for three quarters but Harlan County pushed it to double digits and won comfortably in the 4th.
#9
Liked the way Harlan pulled away at the end. Good hard fault win vs a good Knott county team.
#10
Perry and Clay was close until Clay made a run in the 3rd to lead by 17.

Perry went on a run in the 4th and cut it to 1 with about 12ish seconds or so to go. The ball got away from the inbounder and it took almost 10 seconds to get the ball in. Clay went 1/2 from the FT line with 2 seconds to go but got the offensive rebound to seal it.

Hazard won a really close scrimmage the way I remember. It was Harlan County though, not Harlan, in case that confuses anyone.

Combs for Hazard is that third player. He was big time in the win over Ashland.

If I'm Jones the CC squad are in the gym before the next game shooting free throws. Seems like they missed a ton.

clay county was 8-25 from free throw line .

That is beyond abysmal. Yikes!  Even Old School could nail 9 free throws out of 25, and I have arthritis in hands and knees

Does the WYMT Classic still hold the luxurious feel that it once had? Don't get me wrong I enjoy the games, but with all the streaming that goes on now and other classics does it still hold on to that big game feel. In the past it was big because it put the teams out there with a chance to be on tv. Today you can almost stream any game live. I know it is big due to the scholarships they hand out but just wondering. I wasn't there last night so not sure on the attendance., but man in the past the gym would be packed out.

That is astonishing from a Mike Jones team!!!  Very unusual.

Clay actually played pretty good in a couple of stretches and built a solid lead but the free throw line allowed the Commodores to creep back into it. Down the stretch the Tigers were going 0-2 from the stripe while Perry was hitting 3’s. It doesn’t take long for 17 point leads to go down fast that way.

To answer your question, I don't think it feels as big as it once did. But not because of streaming.
I'll rant for a bit.

Historically, the gyms usually haven't been truly packed until the semifinals.
There was a stretch a while back when Perry Central, Knott, Hazard and Buckhorn were all tough and it made for huge crowds.
When the 14th Region is strong, the tournament does better just because it makes for easy travel.
I think moving from January to December was a terrible move. You've got teams just finishing up football and you're only a week into the season... it's not good basketball.
When the 13th Region starting becoming the better basketball region I think it would have been great to move it to Laurel/Whitley County.
It's a shame we didn't get Reed Sheppard a single time.
Part of the reason to move from January was to avoid the 15th Region All-A. They made the move and it's not improved the quality of teams at all.
I still have hope the Mountain Classic gets back to being something the best teams in the mountains want to play in, but it's definitely not as special as it once was.

But all that said, if anyone within driving distance wants to support the Mountain Classic and see it improve, I would go buy a ticket this Friday or Saturday and watch it in person.
With all the changes at WYMT, I think it's important to show up this year.

Perry Central has to have one of the hottest gyms in the mountains. I know at graduation old time hand fans are distributed and put to good use in there.

I hadn't even took into consideration about them moving it earlier. Very good point.

I may be in the minority here but am I the only one that doesn't like Perry's floor?
#23
You couldn't watch the game on H&I, and believe me, I tried!!
The reception was so poor, that it took me 10 minutes just to be sure that it was the Mountain Classic that was TRYING to be brocasted.
#24
Hazard/Breathitt Part 2 tonight. Will it be a repeat of the first one or will Breathitt come out with the win. Think someone said they could potentially play 4 or 5 times this year.

Paintsville used to have the hottest gym in the mountains when Bill Mike Runyon was the coach. It would be 80-85 degrees going in there to play. I remember lining up on the block for a free throw one time and leaned down to put my hands on my knees and the sweat from my hair/forehead just dumped on the floor like it was poured out of a cup. I later talked to a buddy who played there and he said they practiced in that heat every day to acclimate to it. Very smart strategy by the old ball coach. It was a brutal place to play.

Beverly off the bench is a big boost too at the guard position.

I personally love the floor.  But everyone is different.

Clay 52. Harlan 56. I’m in total shock, Clay was up 9 in the 3rd quarter and completely blew the lead. Harlan is majorly overhyped, my team still lost to them…what’s that say about Clay? A lot of soul searching needs done for this Clay team. Terrible ball handling, horrific FT shooting and way too many jumpers taken. Clay’s strength is driving the basketball and we settled for 3’s all night. Jones has to do better with the amount of talent on this roster. Or am I foolish for thinking this roster holds a lot of talent?
#29
Watching the game Clay quit attacking the goal. They tried to just waste the time and it cost them. Good game though. I saw a lot of sportsmanship out there in that game and I certainly like that.
#30
Getting ready to watch Hazard and Breathitt. Is this the championship game?
If you need any assistance or want to report a problem feel free to PM me and we will get it taken care of!  Thank you for choosing to be apart of the BGR community!
