Not sure about TD’s 33 total but set all time receiving record just shy of 3,000 yards (-44) i think.
Broke old scoring record in basketball formally held by Lonnie Morris.
Also set high jump record at Breathitt at 6’2”. 
Don’t know about the best but he’s been pretty good.

I’m sure there are plenty of Bobcats on the basketball side who played more than four seasons. The COVID rules didn’t allow people to graduate any older than they would have originally. It just gave kids another chance to be a holdback. Football it’s definitely a thing because you only get four years, but also to Sperry’s credit (or detriment depending on how you look at it), I’d say he only played four full seasons of football.

Common sense says coaches traditionally played their best players. And he won’t turn 20 for a few months after graduation. And actually Reed will be 21 in a few months so Austin was never in that graduation class nor was he supposed to be. So hate if you must but at least try to be somewhat honest.

Fair question and I suppose it’s determined locally. Sperry did repeat his freshman year because of covid rule and since he hadn’t held back previously his age allowed him to do so. According to KHSAA records he became Breathitt’s leading receiver a season or two ago but there was some local documentation on a former player with higher numbers that Austin passed this year. He played 4 seasons worth of football. Three full seasons and 6 games this year and 4 last I think.
There weren’t any formal records for basketball and numbers were compiled by the local sports newspaper man through documents and interviews.
But none of these records mean a thing statewide, only locally.

lol days away from 20. The kid just turned 19. We’re not in the 80’s anymore. Pretty sure almost every kid that graduates from hazard/perry that gets any playing time is 19 when they graduate.

The cutoff date has been Aug. 1 for at least 30 years. I have no way of knowing, but there are probably players in the 14th Region playing this year who are older than Sperry, but no one is stalking them on here. I knew a player in our region who turned 20 on Aug. 2, but no one is questioning his career numbers, and they shouldn't. He played by the state rules, as did Sperry.

A.) He technically repeated his 9th grade year
and
B.) If he would have held back earlier he would the 8th grade year (where he scored 16 points) would have been his 7th grade year and he would have still been eligible to play and score those points.


I think the COVID year was a terrible idea and it was the legislature and KHSAA creating problems instead of solutions.
The baseball kids who didn't get to play their senior year it was a problem for them and for the boys and girls teams who didn't get to play basketball at Rupp.
Also for the esports kids who they shut down the season for even though they could have continued to play it remotely (still salty about that).

But the bottom line is it didn't create some magical year where 20 year olds can play with high school kids.
