Thoughts?

I think Paintsville wins a close one. I think Woods will give Shelby Valley trouble.

I think this will be a closely contested game, and a great matchup for both teams to start the season.
No doubt that new Valley coach Taylor's players will be physical, and have them ready to compete. They had a heck of a finish over at the zip zone, even tho it was an exhibition, they'll want to carry that momentum over into the regular season.
Paintsville returns literally everyone from last year's team, and still only has 1-2 seniors. The bulk of their core being sophomores, gained valuable experience as 8th graders, and starting as freshman last season. Still think they're going to be a dark horse in this region, with all the attention going to Martin Co, Central. Pikeville etc.. they have the potential and the talent, there's no doubt coach Slone will have them prepared to win.
Have a feeling this well be a close game, and it could come down to free throws, or whoever has the ball last. I'll take Paintsville.
Paintsville-66
Shelby Valley-62

Paintsville wins this game at home. I expect a couple of those sophomores to take another step in their development and make the Tigers a really tough team this year. The 57th district is absolutely loaded again this year with Paintsville, Martin and JCHS

52-59 Paintsville
Paintsville shot 36 points off free throws
Shelby Valley didn’t shoot a single 1
Valley fouled 3 times all game
Cole is a player
Big night for him might be one of best in 15th

Great win for Paintsville, down by as many as 18 points in the first half, obviously don't want that kind of deficit but great to see them battle back like they did, especially first game of the season. I agree with one of the posts above that a few of those key sophomore players are going to make the leap this year into some special players, definitely Ethan Cole who will be the go-to guy for this team when they need a bucket. Heck of a statement victory for Paintsville.

I didn't see any of this game but that is a huge disparity in free throws. With the way that Lauffer, Cole, and Woods play I won't be surprised for them to shoot a ton of free throws this year. All 3 take the ball strong to the basket and play through contact. Also, a good sign for Shelby Valley that they were able to play through that and keep the game close.

I expected this game to go how it went. Valley has no size and can’t guard a ball screen to save their life. I dont think they will crack .500 this season. Shelby Valley and East Ridge should consolidate at this point because Valley is a washed up basketball program who hasn’t been good since Jim Hicks. East Ridge is on the rise with star guards Gavin and Carter Damron. #Gowarriors

If you weren’t blind to the fact that the Hornets are legit. Knox wallace and andrew Caines will be lethal duo. #GoHornets

How long will Taylor stay at Valley?

Not sure if sarcastic or being for real, but if Belfry is considered the favorite to make it to Rupp, they sure are off to a bad start losing to a young Floyd Central team by 12 points the other night.

May have been just a lie, but someone did post something about someone at Shelby Valley wanting Taylor gone, something about screenshots but then of course, they weren't posted on here. If Taylor doesn't want to go back to college basketball, he should be given a chance to rebuild Shelby Valley.

But, they’re several other teams that other posters are saying the same thing about. Phelps, Betsy Layne, Paintsville, etc. This may be the most talent across the board in the 15th in very long time. Going to make for some fun games this season and I can’t wait to see everything unfold.(12-04-2024, 04:11 PM)sportsdad345 Wrote: How long will Taylor stay at Valley?

After hearing about the calls and the game itself. SV better hope he stays long term if he is even competing with Paintsville at Paintsville. It sounds like they are on the path back to where they were at one time in a few years.
But if rumors are true about football coach and being principal by the screenshots etc people have seen then it’s prolly not going to be a place he stays
Wild times though never thought SV would be priority for football over basketball so rumors might not be true
Paintsville is loaded with bigs with can score at both levels and good guard play nice win for them on opening night interested to see them once they all get in shape for season tough hard nosed score at the rim
Phelps is good I heard they are bringing in more kids too this season and Belfry has added some too any truth to that? Prestonsburg apparently has some coming as well.
