Congratulations OC on the semi-final win. I couldn't be more proud of Somerset on the season, district champions, region champions. Congratulations Coach Clevenger on getting our boys to play the best ball at the right time.

I was wrong about the score. I said 42-7 and the Jumpers kept it within a couple scores. Never saw it coming and at least it was a game. Looks like a lot of teams took it right on the chin tonight so a close game is good to see!

Somerset has a great defense and to hold a loaded OCath offense to 27 is impressive.
Last week, Pburg had 5 trips to the red zone and come away with 0 points against the Jumpers. They return most of their team too.
Aces & Beechwood should be a great football game.

The final score should have been 27-21 but a horrible spot on third down making it 4th down. Then not stopping the clock when a player ran out of bounds was BS . Somerset would have had the ball 1and 10 inside the 20 and it resulted in turnover on downs. Somerset just kept running the Ball all night and OC had a hard time stopping them. Hughes had 85 yards rushing and a TD in the first half I don’t know what he ended up with for the game if I was guessing maybe 130 and 2 TD’S. Somerset had a great game plan and it almost worked.

this maybe a thread all in its own but I have to ask you a few questions here since you’re probably the most in the know for Somerset that I see post.
I looked at the graduations for Somerset. Of course they lose the qb but then there’s a few other spots they’ll have to answer. Looks like they lose a couple athletes on defense and a couple utility receiver running back types and the Lewis kid who was a target for them on offense. Outside of that they return a lot. So they should be stacked on defense.
I know I asked about the QB in a different thread but I guess my question is this.
What will Somerset have to do in the off season to become the team that turns another corner? I admit I didn’t see back to back region championships in Clevengers first two seasons. I do think they have to create offensive balance that makes life a little easier for 17 to get his yards.

They do loose koger the LB that will hurt but they have some younger kids that can slide in they also loose Lewis #2 but his little brother will be a junior is actually better than him that will be back he tore his shoulder the first or second game of the season. They have some nice young kids with skill coming in as freshman and the boys kid #22 very speedy kid was a freshman this year will probably get a lot more minutes he is a really good RB, sees the field really well but was just young this year. Cimala will be a junior and will play a much bigger role to take some pressure off Hughes. I have heard talk of some kids from across town not happy with where they are at now a RB/Lb and a Qb maybe looking to move but at this point who knows. Most people within the Somerset program feel they will be better next year and get better year after year for about the next 6 years. When these 8th graders are JR and the 6th graders are Freshman and when they are Sr and Sophomore that’s group is going to be special. Especially the 6th grade the kids just have a different mind set they are smart players and extremely aggressive actively looking to lay the wood to somebody with great team speed from top to bottom at just about all positions. It’s gonna be fun to watch the next few years.
I haven’t watched a lot of Somerset this year, but from what I saw Hughes and Cimala seemed to be the two biggest offensive threats, and both are back next year. If they can get a good QB they could be dangerous for the next few years because as others have said, the middle school teams appear to be loaded. 6th grade won state didn’t they?
As for this game, Somerset had a great game plan to keep the OC offense off the field and just kept grinding out long drives. If they could have kept OC from scoring before the half it may have been a completely different game. In the end the better team won but Somerset made them fight for every inch. Reminded me a lot of the 2018 semifinal game against CAL where Somerset had them on the ropes until right before the half when the game got away from them.
I expect a shootout in the finals. Owensboro Catholic can score, but from what I saw tonight I don’t think they’ll stop Beechwood. I think it will be a lot like last year’s championship game between OC and Mayfield. This was my first time watching OC this year and they are very good, but this team misses Tutt Carrico. He was a threat every time he touched the ball and I don’t know that they have someone at that level.
