15th Region Sleeper Team?
#61
Football season. Let everyone get their players and then it will be easier to tell who has the goods.

But yes they got boat raced in jr high state tourney against Wayne County and yes Spriggs twisted an ankle or something like that but they weren’t beating Wayne County who ended up winning it all I believe. They were outmatched that game but were one of the best jr high teams at state that year. Top 5.

I am still not sold on their team. Potential but gotta prove it.

So much for all those transfers Superstar "heard about" which wasn't surprising. Mason Hall should have been coaching the Bobcats, but he doesn't play politics or allow "daddy ball" to rear its ugly head and Floyd County can't have that kind of coach.  As far as Floyd Central goes, Alan Moore makes a better assistant than head coach. Floyd Central has the perfect basketball mind in that school teaching in Brandon Gearheart but for whatever reason, they've continued to stand by Alan and not live up to the hype and talent.

Brandon Gearheart can’t coach a lick

Also happy to see they are playing Knott Central in the Carr Creek gym this season as well. Whoever is in charge of Floyd Central playing so many throwback games should be applauded.

Prestonsburg also made a mistake in giving Harold Tackett the head coaching job. Justin Allen should be the head coach at Prestonsburg. He would have them contending for titles and he'd actually stay in Prestonsburg because he lives and breathes Prestonsburg. Nothing against Harold but he's had his run and it wasn't all that great.

Don't know that I've heard much about Justin Allen as it pertains to coaching, but if he's young, hungry and will do what it takes to keep the kids from transferring out of Floyd County then maybe that's the route they take down the road. Not sure how long Harold will last there, and don't see him having much success.
I’m definitely not young (39 actually), but I’m always hungry. Metabolism isn’t what it used to be lemme tell ya. All jokes aside: I used to want to be a head coach for Prestonsburg but not as much anymore. Would I be an assistant again in the future if time allowed it? Absolutely. If I didn’t have a new addition to the family this summer, I’d be back at Adams Middle with my old pal Dougie running it back again. We saw lots of success a few years ago. I’d imagine we could get it rolling again. Only a matter of time with him in charge that we will see loads of talent being sent up to the high school.

Totally understand with family additions and time going fast. Seems like just yesterday you were playing at Prestonsburg. Had it not been for the injuries, I think you would have been one of the best all time in the Region. As it was, I think you should have played NAIA at the very least. Alice Lloyd signed Chris Hurt from Johnson Central and their was no way he could lace your shoes, for what its worth.

I do hope down the road you get back in coaching as its always fun to cheer on a team lead by a class act!
#67
Brandon Gearheart couldn’t get it done with Christian Johnson, Ethan Curry, and James Samons. What makes you think he can have success at the next level?
#68
Have any of those three done anything at the high school level?

He is a great coach and an even better person. He had Prestonsburg trending upward then lost the job over politics to Brent Rose. Brent is a great guy, but great guys don't always win championships.

I appreciate the compliments but I was a career 33% 3-point shooter averaging like 17/game. I was mid-tier in the 15th and couldn’t hold a light to the likes of Mikey Hall, Rusty Tackett, Shawn Newsome and other great names that played during my time. Heck, Chris Kidd, Joey Willis, Trevor Compton and Kris Bentley on my own team put me to shame. BUT, had I put into it what I wish I had put into it looking back on it, I could’ve been much better. You never see that until it’s too late.

my problem isn’t with d and d talking up Belfry, I expect that, they’ve done the same thing wherever there kids are, if I had a kid and owned a media company, I would cover my child too, when Thomas son was on Betsy Layne we got all the coverage and same when he went to Floyd Central, Prestonsburg gets cover because of Keathley kid. Mingo Central gets covered because of David Jones, no different then WPRG OR mountain top covering Pikeville when there kids went there  in my opinion. I honestly don’t see them hyping up Belfry cause they ranked them 9th in region I think, but my issue is them sleeping on Betsy Layne, I think we looked very dangerous this weekend. Keep sleeping on the Bobcats, we will shock everyone this year
I would agree. No way would I place Belfry in the top 10 but Betsy Layne will be much stronger.

Where would Paintsville Rank? I heard they looked very good at JC yesterday and beat a top 3 or 4 team in the 14th in Perry County.

Martin County looked very good and Athletic. JC Looked solid as well. The 57th district is the best district in the mountains and arguably one of the best in the state for competition and contenders in the region. Magoffin is young and it will be a while until they reach the heights they did last season. I can’t wait for February and March

2 sleepers in my opinion are Shelby Valley and Lawerence County. Both play hard and have coaches who get the absolute best out of their players.

Belfry has shown in their first two how bad they need a big.   I don’t see any on the football team helping much.   Maybe Darryl will recruit one.  He can provide some hype.  Lol.   You’d think from the coverage that there is 5 D1 signees on the team.   I’m all for hyping the mountain kids but it’s a little ridiculous with how d&d has reported

Dylan Boyd couldn’t hit the water on a boat against top 15 team in the state in Hazard. Floyd Central looked awful as a whole.

Shelby Valley has great potential if Matt Taylor sticks around. Knows the game in and out and players love him. He is just the coach Shelby Valley needs to get back to contending for region championships again.

D & D would be ok if they would just broadcast the games and not talk. Darryl can get real annoying to listen to alot of the time. Their social media posts about middle and high school kids are also really cringy. It's almost like they just try to hard most of the time.

Jackie Day Crisp, yes. I think my first year was the first year of Crisp after Jack Pack. Played from 1999 to 2003. Tore my ACL in the Eric C Conn-dome at BL my senior year, unfortunately.

If pre-season is any indicator how this year will go Floyd Central better get their asses in the gym! Flat out embarrassing tonight against a tough Breathit team. Fc just wasn’t hitting tonight and couldn’t get to their spots, you can tell who puts in the work and who don’t

Brother I agree completely. They looked pretty bad. Breathitt is decent but damn they ain’t no better then some of the 15th Region Teams they will play. Can’t rely on Dylan Boyd to be the guy without spriggs

Looked young. Don’t have a go to scorer when they need buckets and they force a lot of weird shots.

Whats wrong with Spriggs?

Boyd is one of the best 3 point shooters. He'd help any team in the 15th.
