I forgot Brayden played with Floyd Central during the summer season. If he left over not getting minutes that shows yet again why Alan Moore is better suited for being an assistant.

Summer ball results are as meaningful as preseason games. Be interesting to see what happens when they play in the 2A tournament in January. Also happy to see they are playing Knott Central in the Carr Creek gym this season as well. Whoever is in charge of Floyd Central playing so many throwback games should be applauded.
Prestonsburg also made a mistake in giving Harold Tackett the head coaching job. Justin Allen should be the head coach at Prestonsburg. He would have them contending for titles and he'd actually stay in Prestonsburg because he lives and breathes Prestonsburg. Nothing against Harold but he's had his run and it wasn't all that great.

ER played hard. Couple of good quick guards. Terrible against a press. Probably had 30 turnovers or game could have gone the other way because Belfry didn’t play well either. Small and will have trouble with press and trouble rebounding against bigger teams.
Belfry has a lot of good guards. Will be able to score. Can get hot and upset a better team here or there. Gamble a ton and trap on defense. That’s going to help them against weaker teams but against better bigger teams, will lead to layups and wide open shots. ER just didn’t have enough to take advantage of it. Problem for Belfry is size and if some football kids don’t come out, they will have problems. I also think there could be some issues with enough shots to go around for kids who want to shoot. Sloppy last night but first year coach in his first game. They will get better and be a good team but the last bet the top coverage is still weird even though I understand why.

After watching the belfry game last night, it looked like a JV game the whole time. They didn’t impress me at all. The hype around them didn’t show up last night. Guess the lights were too bright, in a scrimmage lol.

Floyd Central will surprise y’all. They have two of the best players in the region and a really good group of guys behind them. They play hard and are as athletic as they’ve ever been. Meade, Johnson, Buck, Curry, Sammons, all those dudes are gonna shock the world. If they dig deep and play defense like they can it’ll be scary hours in the 58th

I don’t even know how you can say the Jags have the 2 best players in the region. Chris Spriggs is their best player by far but who else? Boyd?? Spriggs is prob 6th or so in the region. Boyd ain’t even top 15. Meade can guard well, Curry hasn’t played basketball in forever. Johnson is alright. Buck could be decent but only time can tell. You’re most definitely a floyd central diehard fan. They are around the 7th best team in the region again for the 4th year in a row

I'll have to agree about hiring Harold, made a huge mistake doing that but I was told it was whatever they could do to keep Keathley at Prestonsburg.
Don't know that I've heard much about Justin Allen as it pertains to coaching, but if he's young, hungry and will do what it takes to keep the kids from transferring out of Floyd County then maybe that's the route they take down the road. Not sure how long Harold will last there, and don't see him having much success.
As it goes for the FC throwback games, they're also playing Rowan Co in the Wayland gym. Rowan is coached by Shawn Thacker, former player at Allen Central. I'll have to agree that it's great getting these old gyms open like this and having games, I went to the game last year when eventual State Champion Lyon Co came to Wayland, still the greatest experience I've ever had around the game of Basketball. From my understanding, they're going to do this for Allen Central gym, and should for South Floyd as well, as those 2 were IMO the nicest gyms in the 15th, and the entire state in their heyday.

If Alan couldn't get it done with Ronnie Samons and Braden Moore last year, he's not going to get it done this year. Speaking of Ronnie, I am surprised he's not playing NAIA somewhere. Spriggs and Boyd have dominated at every level when they’ve had the green light, it’s just the facts. Nothing has changed except they’ve gotten bigger and better. Sounds like you’re just another old guy hating on a bunch of kids playing the game they love. Boyd is easily the best shooter in the region. They have the talent and the chemistry big factor will be defense as always.
I don’t buy the LC hype but they do have the best coach in the region and he gets the best out of them. He has that team ready to run through a wall game by game. Have to give BL time with parsons and allen just now getting back from football. Prestonsburg will be better than most think, honestly 58th is 2nd best district in the region. In due time

Yeah you’ve got that dace team now they are juniors and they was running the region and some what of state and won KBC and made in 1 game away from the state championship. I’d say if alan doesn’t get it done this year bring back Robbie Jo Johnson!!

If those boys were so dominant, then last year they should have rolled through the region. Great kids and players, but its another case of Beaver Creek overhyping their own. I hope they prove me wrong this year, but I think Alan will hold them back again.
Speaking of Robbie, I am surprised he's not gotten a chance to be a high school head coach. He should be Betsy Layne's coach right now.

I think DACE was boat raced in the sweet sixteen of state by Wayne Co that year. Good junior high team and I don’t think they lost a game in the region that year but going to have to prove it at high school level because they haven’t had same success yet. Sometimes kids grow earlier than others and everyone catches up and passes.
11-20-2024, 09:05 PM
I don’t know if FC has the team to win or compete for a region championship but it won’t be because Spriggs and Boyd aren’t a good enough 1-2. Don’t know either of the kids or their families so I’m unbiased, but I have watched them since they were in 8th grade and they are killers. From the outside looking in, it looked like they’ve had to take a back seat the past couple years, but I anticipate both of them having big seasons.
11-20-2024, 09:06 PM
Steam rolled? They only lost that game because of Spriggs going down in the 1st quarter. They killed Lexington Catholic, Ashland, and a bunch of other good teams by 25+. Did the same thing this summer
