The behavior of some of Betsy Layne's players last night was inexcusable. Personally, if I had been the head coach, I would have pulled those players from the game immediately and let them know that that kind of conduct would not be tolerated. If it continued, I would have told them that their season would be spent standing next to me on the bench.
I don't know Jarredd, but I do know his father and uncles. I went to school with them and played football with them. They are great people, a great family, and I considered them to be my friends. They were never bullies or dirty, but they sure wouldn't back down if challenged.
I think some of the issues with Betsy Layne High School lies in the administration. Let's just say this type of behavior didn't really occur until the current administration, one person in particular, took control. IMO, students don't fear the consequences of their actions that they may face. IMO, that is why we see bad conduct in multiple sports.
As far as the predicted doom of the Betsy Layne program that many are predicting, I don't see it happening. The middle school program is doing great, and Jarredd has turned things around at the high school big time. Yes, the schedule has been weak, but Betsy Layne has been playing these teams for years and in most instances, losing. Jarredd is now beating these teams. I do hope he beefs up the schedule some, but he is the coach, so that's his call.
Someone mentioned Jamin Jamey saying over the radio and YouTube stream that Betsy Layne was playing like a bunch of jack@$$es. I also heard Josh McKinney taking shots at Betsy Layne. I agree the conduct of some of the players was bad, but there were more professional ways to describe what was happening than to say that. I thought his conduct wasn't any better than some of the BLHS players. Josh McKinney is trash. He will always be remembered by many for his conduct at WYMT which resulted in a public apology from him and the station to Johnson Central's football team. To this day, he doesn't regret those actions.
Congrats to the Blackcats. You all laid the wood to Betsy Layne twice this year. Good luck on the rest of your season.

Hit hard, play hard and let the boom speak for itself. No need for the theatrics.. Hopefully the good(which I believe far outweighs the bad) will put some boots in some asses and put an end to it....Good luck next week Pburg and BL good season..
I would agree with this if it weren’t the same song and dance every single week. And it’s not just this sport. It’s literally every sport. Or at least it was. I’m confident Mike Howard won’t allow the antics that Newsome and others allowed at Betsy Layne basketball for so long. Major changes need made from top to bottom at that place.

This will be the 1st game of next season BL better clean a lot of things up or it will be worse than this year.

That young man is a football player! In that BL game there was a period where #13 made play after play. He’s blocked multiple kicks this season and is always causing teams problems.
When Jarrell played, he was mouthy but didn’t cheap shot anyone. The team he was on weren’t dirty but they were mean. They would legally try to hurt you. Two of those played on the Pikeville state champion team the next year. A truly vicious bunch.

Their defense completely shutdown Betsy Layne. Shoutout to everyone who again doubted the Blackcats. Super proud of these Blackcats and the helluva season they’ve had. First time in a regional championship since 2014. What Wes Hager has done for this program in a year is nothing short of amazing. Regional Finalist and 11 wins when everyone thought they MAY win 2 games.
The Floyd County Board of Education or Betsy Layne HS administration needs to take a serious look in the mirror. Betsy Layne is THE MOST undisciplined, dirty, and disrespectful high school football team I’ve ever seen. The coaching staff should absolutely be embarrassed. It was pathetic. I’m so thankful one of Prestonsburg’s kids did not get seriously hurt. Betsy Layne probably had 20 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and deserved every single one of them. One announcer at a particular radio station said they were acting like a bunch of “jack*****”.
Hats off to Prestonsburg for keeping their cool and taking a knee at the end of the game instead of punching another one in.
Agree completely. Of course this doesn’t apply to every kid as they have some really awesome dudes. Allen, Parsons, Laferty, etc. are all kids I’ve gotten to watch grow throughout the years and are from awesome families. But this is typical Betsy Layne behavior. Either Jarrod doesn’t care and allows this to happen or he doesn’t have control of his team. The taunting (while down 29 points), late hits, tantrums, etc. were a disgrace to this county. I’d have the board of education look at this film (and several others) about how this team is allowed to act week after week.
Congrats to the Blackcats on laying the smackdown.
Generally, the Board of Education has nothing to do with Coaches, players, student suspensions etc. They hire the Superintendent, approve the budget and set policies. They can't do squat about a football game.
Definitely one in particluar that could, but we all know that won't happen.
Is there a basketball gym named after the one being possibly mentioned here?

Only part of my prediction I got wrong was that it would be close, everything else was pretty spot on.
Complete domination pretty much from the coin toss. Prestonsburg definitely won the trenches with the ground game, just wearing down BL pretty early. Been impressed with their defense all season, but this game they really put it all together, shutting down Mccutcheon, and getting the QB out of the pocket and he just didn't have any time at all to make any plays, threw a lot of arid passes on the run that wasn't even close to his receivers. Just a great effort on both sides of the ball, even special teams got in on the action with a blocked punt as well.
Now I also said that if it was a close game, that costly penalties could doom Betsy Layne. Didn't have to worry about a close game obviously, but the penalties were still there. Just boneheaded penalties, holding literally on every play, and if they didn't call that, it was unsportsmanlike all game. But it was very very very evident when the game was out of reach, the intentions that BL had, trying to hurt someone, my wife who is normally very levelheaded and quiet was even hollering at the refs. It was sad to see that, some of the BL players were throwing up middle fingers as previously mentioned to the Pburg sideline. It was inexcusable actions from them, and it's all a direct reflection of the coach and the rest of his staff, no discipline whatsoever.
Congrats to Prestonsburg on getting the shutout victory, and moving onto play for & host a Regional Championship, sure will be a tough test against an always good Somerset team.

After looking at the information this is the first time in the Jarredd Jarrell stint he’s been held scoreless. He also punted more in this game than he did all last season.

Well, Congrats to the Blackcats and their coach, it has to be said he has outperformed all expectations. I am not ashamed to say that I didn't think he was going to do well. But he proved me wrong, and many others on here.
Secondly, now is it right to play the game dirty? no not at all but Pburg is no stranger to playing it dirty in as late as 2015 I know for a fact they were some of the dirtiest playing guys in the mountains. So, Jarrell and his style is just a product of the Prestonsburg attitude.

I can't believe a coach would allow his players to act like that! The officials did everything they could to keep it under control, how many flags were there??? Props to the refs on this game, a lesser crew and the game would have been even uglier, if that is possible.

I counted 39 flags thrown in this mess. A few were declined. 7 referees with tired arms and a little confused towards the end of the game. 214 penalty yards on Betsy Lane, and 130 yards on Prestonsburg.

I feel really bad for some of the very talented well mannered kids on BL's roster that have to be paired with all this negativity. This isn't one coaches fault, its the administration who sits back doesn't give a single SH*T what happens and collect a pay check. Jarred does what Jarred is allowed to do. Hes a good football coach who is overly emotional and isn't reigned in by the admin. Nothing will ever change in this regard until they have people who care and have a backbone in charge. I can guarantee you though this stuff wont happen in basketball. Mike Howard wont let it happen they will just come to Pburg kick their butt on the scoreboard and leave and instead of BL fans saying the refs took it on facebook the Pburg fans will be saying the best prospect in EKY shot the ball too much.
