Russell at Belfry 11/22
#1
Russell at Belfry. Thoughts?
#2
Devils get routed on Pond Creek. Russell has over achieved this year imo. They have some young talent that may have rekindled Maynard’s desire to stick around on the sidelines. They just aren’t enough to beat the Pirates this year.
#3
Pirates host another preseason opener before the real Ball starts next week!!
BELFRY 35
RUSSEL 7
#4
Pirates by 3+ scores.
#5
Nice turnaround by the Red Devils this season. It ends here though, Belfry wins by 14.
#6
Russell hasn't seen a team like Belfry, and after this one they will hope they don't have to again.
Belfry 48, Russell 14
#7
Belfry 35 Russell 14
#8
Belfry 42- Russell 14
#9
Russell has had a good comeback season. They are in the regional championship, and they have the opportunity to go fight it out with the Pirates. They may or may not take a butt whipping. But even if they do, they will know what it takes to move up to the next level!!!
#10
Taking Belfry but truly this game a few years back was a war
#11
42-7 Big Red!! Belfry still hasn’t played their best ball, but they got better defensively against Rock. Belfry is just too much for the Devils.

Belfry wins 35-14. It’s a real possibility if Belfry and Hart County both win Belfry could be making a trip next weekend to Munfordville which is nearly a 5 hour trip.

Obviously you have to win first, but at Hart, at Union County, at CAL and home with Central are the options for the semis.

I know but I’m just saying the most likely scenario. A belfry win, Central, win, Hart win, and Bell win Belfry would be at Hart. Central would be at Bell. I think these are your favorites. A Cal, Hart, Belfry, and Lex Catholic win Friday would also put Belfry at Hart
#15
i wouldnt count out lexcath, they've won 6 straight after starting 0-6, but every team they lost to is still playing
#16
I’m not sure Bell beats Lex Cath. Bell has terrible schedule and LC is coming on strong.

I would take that scenario in a heartbeat.   No absolutely nothing about Hart Co....other than it would be a long drive.  But I would take it.    However, Belfry has to take care of business Friday night first.   Russell folks have been pretty quiet all season......   Basing this prediction on what I've picked up from a few Raceland folks:

Belfry 42
Russell 14

Great season for Russell but I’m afraid it ends here. A lot of positives this year 9-3 and playing a ton of freshman and sophomores. With the reclassification next year with belfry moving to 2a and catholic moving to the west Russell will have a seat at the table the next 2 years.

Russell's passing game will give Belfry problems.

I dont think Russell shows Belfry anything they haven't seen yet.. but they should be able to move the ball if they take what Belfry gives them.

I think because of this Russell can keep the clock moving and Belfry's offense should sustain success but also keep it moving as well.

My prediction is it is a little closer than most expect but Belfry moves on:
Belfry 35
Russell 20

I’d like to see Russell pull off the upset but I think Belfry is a bit too much this season. This has been a good year for them to rebuild their program and can be a great stepping stone for the future.

Not intending to look ahead or overlook, but since the question had been asked in the post-game thread last week:
Belfry has one path to hosting the Semi's.
It would require Central beating CAL again and LexCath knocking off Bell County.
Only if this happens then Belfry would host Louisville Central in the Semi's at Belfry.

Russell has not path to hosting the Semi's.

Of the remaining teams here are how their RPI seeds work out:
1. CAL
2. Bell County
3. Hart County
4. Union County
5. Belfry
6. Central
7. LexCath
8. Russell

Belfry Win Scenarios:
HOST Scenario- Outlined above, requires both a CAL and Bell County loss. Belfry hosts Central, winner of Hart/Union hosts LexCath.

AWAY Scenarios:
Scenario 1: If Central wins, but Bell wins.
Bell hosts Central. Belfry travels to Union/Hart winner.

Scenario 2: If CAL wins and Bell wins.
Belfry travels to CAL, Bell hosts Union/Hart winner.

Scenario 3: If CAL wins and LexCath wins.
Cal hosts LexCath. Belfry travels to Union/Hart winner.

Russell win scenario:
HOST- No options

AWAY Option
Scenario 1: If Central wins and LexCath wins.
Hart/Union winner hosts Russell. Central hosts LexCath.

Scenario 2: If Central wins and Bell County wins.
Bell County hosts Russell. Hart/Union winner hosts Central.

Scenario 3: If CAL wins and LexCath wins.
CAL hosts Russell. Hart/Union winner hosts LexCath.

Scenario 4: If CAL wins and Bell wins.
CAL hosts Russell, Bell hosts Union/Hart winner.

Can Russell avoid the running clock is the only question.
#26
could this be a snow game
#27
The all-time series is 14-12 Belfry. The Pirates have won the last 6 by a combined score of 258-52. In the 70s and 80s, these teams were district rivals. Back then only one team from each district went to the playoffs and there were some great games.
#28
Really odd game to think about for me. Head says Belfry by a wide margin. But my head also goes back to the Letcher County Central game. If Russell can throw the ball effectively they have a chance to keep the game closer than some think

Could be.   How that impacts each teams game plan will be interesting.
