Open Job: Henry Clay
#1
Henry Clay head Coach Demertrius Gay has stepped down today as coach of the Blue Devils.

Can this program be revived?

It blows my mind that this program is in the shape it is in. Back in the day, when Sam Simpson was coach, Henry Clay had some really good teams, though the program began to fade toward the end of his tenure. What is the problem with programs like Henry Clay, Tates Creek, Lafayette, and PLD? They may have brief moments of success, but it doesn't last long.

I have always been fascinated by the fact that Lexington has had so many bad teams over the years. It looks like with the population, that they could field comparative teams every year. ? I remember reading an article in the Lexington Herald Leader back in the late 80's or early 90's discussing how Lexington football as a whole was weak. It stated that most teens in the city just had no interest in football. It stated that they would rather work at a fast food joint as play football.

I have always thought PLD, as a whole, was the biggest disappointment of them all.  It may not still be; but for years it had the highest enrollment of any public school in the state.  It also serves an above average SES demographic.

Lafayette High School is one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole city.  I have no idea what the culture is like within it.

Tate’s Creek has shifted from a middle class working families type community; to one that is full of section 8 housing and poverty.  Since Sims left, they have def been on the struggle bus.

Would love to see a big coach, or Douglass asst or Boyle asst here.

It kinda feels like Douglas’s was set up to win a state title at the expense of all the other Lexington public schools.
