Prestonsburg 29 Betsy Layne 0
#1
Final.
#2
First off, Prestonsburg dominated this game. Their defense completely shutdown Betsy Layne. Shoutout to everyone who again doubted the Blackcats. Super proud of these Blackcats and the helluva season they’ve had. First time in a regional championship since 2014. What Wes Hager has done for this program in a year is nothing short of amazing. Regional Finalist and 11 wins when everyone thought they MAY win 2 games.

The Floyd County Board of Education or Betsy Layne HS administration needs to take a serious look in the mirror. Betsy Layne is THE MOST undisciplined, dirty, and disrespectful high school football team I’ve ever seen. The coaching staff should absolutely be embarrassed. It was pathetic. I’m so thankful one of Prestonsburg’s kids did not get seriously hurt. Betsy Layne probably had 20 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and deserved every single one of them. One announcer at a particular radio station said they were acting like a bunch of “jack*****”.
Hats off to Prestonsburg for keeping their cool and taking a knee at the end of the game instead of punching another one in.

100%. A disgrace to the game. Next year they will be back to the bottom of the barrel. Betsy Layne fans your program is terrible and will always be terrible.

Agree completely. Of course this doesn’t apply to every kid as they have some really awesome dudes. Allen, Parsons, Laferty, etc. are all kids I’ve gotten to watch grow throughout the years and are from awesome families. But this is typical Betsy Layne behavior. Either Jarrod doesn’t care and allows this to happen or he doesn’t have control of his team. The taunting (while down 29 points), late hits, tantrums, etc. were a disgrace to this county. I’d have the board of education look at this film (and several others) about how this team is allowed to act week after week.

Congrats to the Blackcats on laying the smackdown.

The most dirty team in EKY. Any Betsy Layne fan or Jarrod should be embarrassed with how their team acted, like little babies, before the kickoff one BL player already started. 3 Pburg starters transferred to BL then they beat them twice the next year. BL is a poverty program and they always will be, can’t wait to see them next year without the RB.

Generally, the Board of Education has nothing to do with Coaches, players, student suspensions etc.  They hire the Superintendent, approve the budget and set policies.  They can't do squat about a football game.

I will clarify to say that the elected school board members can not do anything with what you mentioned. However, people that work for the board of education at central office can. I will also say that SOME elected board members in Floyd County indeed CAN do something about this if they wanted to. I think you’ll get my point.

Classic Jarredd Jarrell. He needs his bah bah and nappy after the show he put on tonight. I see him going for the FC job after tainting his stint at BL over the years. Has he had wins under his belt? Yes, Has he had the best season? Yes, But wins don’t excuse the baby like behavior and to rub that off on your players. Not what any parent or kid wants to see for sure.

Congratulations to Pburg ,  all kinds of hype from Betsy layne all season but  playing a weak schedule don’t get you far when it counts .

Congrats to the Blackcats on a Dominant Performance! Offense did what they do and the Blackcat Defense was Locked In all game! I’d love to hear how many yards they held the Bobcats to.

Prestonsburg absolutely dominated this game for all 48 mins. Held BL to just over 80 yards of offense and only 10 yards in the second half.

Hats off to this team and coaching staff. They had a heckuva week of practice and were very motivated coming into this game. I never had one doubt in my mind that Pburg would lose this one all week.

Kain Patton had one heckuva game. He’s been overdue for a huge game and tonight he was unstoppable on both sides of the ball. Kid is just a junior.

So proud of these coaches and players.

Hail Blackcats!!!

BL had 20 penalties, PBURG had 15. Idk about yards.

Both teams had over triple digits. And to be honest, Betsy Layne deserved more. Several late hits, the obscene gestures by a former Blackcat to Hager after nearly every play, the holds on the left side of the line…I could go on and on. This was a team that honestly looked like they’d never practiced football before. And I hate it for kids like Carter Parsons. He is so talented but needs off that hill and in a better situation. Do you think it’s a coincidence that in most of the games BL plays that cops need to roam the sidelines? It’s not. Everyone in eastern KY knows what you’re going to get when they roll into town.

It’s sad. But when you look at the leader it does not take long to see why they are the way they are. BL looked like they checked out of football a few weeks ago. Not sure what happened nor does it matter. But hope for the kids that stay in the program he takes a long look in the mirror.

The display of antics we all seen last night from Betsy Layne was shameful.

It reflects poorly on the coaches, school, community, and their families.

You all wanna know why Andrew McCutcheon didn’t win district player of the year? It’s because the other coaches in that district (Pike Central, SV, ER) don’t respect Betsy Layne and that lack of respect stems from this type of behavior. I mean it’s always something with this program. Either coaches are getting investigated by the KHSAA, players are throwing punches, taunting, ripping helmets off, flopping, shoving, you name it, it’s likely happening every other play. It’s coming from over half the starters too, including some of the former Prestonsburg players. You almost never see these players getting benched and ripped by a single coach on that sideline.

Betsy Layne is going to lose half their roster to graduation and you’re likely going to see some of the remaining starters transfer. I’d say you’ll see more changes coming up on the hill as well.

It’s likely going to be an interesting off season at Betsy Layne.

One team looked like they deserved to be in this game due to good coaching and one team looked like they belonged in ISS (in school suspension back in my day) not sure what it’s called now or if that is even a thing.

I was hopeful that the young coach at BL would grow into the position and mature as a leader, but it sounds like time is quickly running out on that development.

I was not at the game, and I am simply reacting to what has been said about BL many times over the last couple years.

Everyone remembers who BL’s Head Coach played for in HS- right? The Blackcats were notoriously dirty and chippy back in the day. And it seemed that officials allowed or tolerated the bully culture there for years.

Someone mentioned (a Breathitt guy) on another thread a few weeks ago that the good BREATHITT, PRESTONSBURG, and BELFRY teams were all very physical and prone to “dirty play”!

Is it really worse now at BL? Is this carry over culture that now has went beyond the gray areas? These are questions; not answers.

Jarrell and the Betsy Layne program are a perfect match for each other! They are both trash!!! I’ve never seen a more dirty and undisciplined team! Any parent who would allow their son to play for such a clown, needs their head examined!

Hager is a class act, and the way the Blackcats have handled themselves on and off the field speaks volumes of Hager, the boys, and the overall state of the program. Prestonsburg dominated this game from start to finish and unlike Betsy Layne, they were prepared.

The defense played their best game of the year and offensively we were much more balanced. Betsy Layne has very little team speed outside of McCutcheon, and their line was slow and sloppy. Prestonsburg controlled the line of scrimmage and they had no answer for Patton, Harris, and Elliott.

You just can’t say enough about this program and the class and hard work that has been displayed. This was a program that was left for dead and here we are playing in the regional finals. Regardless of the outcome next week, Prestonsburg is back and we are going to be here for a while! Hail Blackcats!

Congrats Pburg, good game, great season... Also congrats to BL on a solid season, 9-3 with a playoff win.. Now, Yea there was a lot of uncalled for "action" last night. That said I wont begrudge the whole school or the entire team over the actions of a few... Chippy, hard nosed play is great. Constant cussing, flipping he bird and the like is childish...
Hit hard, play hard and let the boom speak for itself. No need for the theatrics.. Hopefully the good(which I believe far outweighs the bad) will put some boots in some asses and put an end to it....Good luck next week Pburg and BL good season..

I would agree with this if it weren’t the same song and dance every single week. And it’s not just this sport. It’s literally every sport. Or at least it was. I’m confident Mike Howard won’t allow the antics that Newsome and others allowed at Betsy Layne basketball for so long. Major changes need made from top to bottom at that place.

Was Jarrell ever offered the Pburg job when it was open?
#29
I think there needs to a new statistic. Give the defensive player credit for a 10 yard tackle for loss when holding is called on the offensive player. If that was so, P-burg would have had a lot. Barron Craft would have had 4 himself.
When Jarrell played, he was mouthy but didn’t cheap shot anyone. The team he was on weren’t dirty but they were mean. They would legally try to hurt you. Two of those played on the Pikeville state champion team the next year. A truly vicious bunch.
