I think a lot of John, but one could argue, what has he actually done at Magoffin? If I'm not mistaken, this was his fourth year and he has had plenty of time to put his footprint on the program. I get it, it's Magoffin, but I personally thought he would have more success at this point in his tenure. If you look at his tenure, his teams seemed to get worse as time went on. His first season he was 6-4, followed by two 4-6 seasons, and this year they missed the playoffs with a 2-8 record. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Magoffin will find a better person or a better football coach, but being honest, I don't see any big name programs hiring Derossett. I may be wrong, but I feel like John's best days are behind him.

Too many of you referring to “this rumor or that one”…. What are they?
Back to original point of this thread- have they talked him out of resigning at Magoffin- OR is he gone?

I'm curious about this rumor. Idk coach John or really anything about him. I heard JC mentioned. So as a JC fan I'm going to speculate for a moment.
I know several of the guys on the JC coaching staff, and system from grade school up. As I've said before, I'm not really close to any of them. Other than seeing them out at town on occasion. So this is just pretty much my opinion. Just take it with a grain of salt.
Coach Peck is only in his third season as JC head coach. He's already likely around second on the JC all time wins list. He's definitely second on the list in all time playoff wins.
Remember, it took Matney awhile to get JC to where they were at. Yes Coach Peck did inherent a built up JC program. You gotta remember, it wasn't under normal circumstances, when he took over as HC. No one could have imagined the passing of Coach Matney. I'm sure there were no plans of JC having another head coach anytime soon, before this happened. It had to be someone.
You got to remember, Coach Peck played a huge role, helping to get that JC team to the state title game. The whole staff and team did. I'm talking our last appearance in the championship game, when we lost to Boyle. After all the team went through that season, getting to the state title game alone, was a heck of an accomplishment. You can look long and hard and not find a team with more heart than that bunch right there.
Coach Peck was a huge part of that. As a coach overall, he's won two state titles, and gone to what, six overall state titlegames. How can you replace that? You can't. If anyone knows about building a program, it's him.
Plus 4a which is JC'S class is the toughest class in the state. I honestly believe it has been for awhile. Plus JC, the playoffs are just starting. I couldn't imagine they'd be talking about a coaching change right now. Unless Coach Peck is wanting to step down for personal reasons or something. If not I say we stick with him. He's just getting started as HC. It takes time, and if anyone can figure thing's out to get JC over the hump, it's Coach Peck.

He had Woods, who resigned to spend more time with his family. His OL coach, Perkins, is okay, which I’m pretty sure he is the OC as well. Not a fan of the play calling most of the time, which majority agree. Other than that he has no true position coaches that actually know the position and know what they’re doing. No offense to any of those other guys because I appreciate every minute of their time that they have committed to this program.

I think it’s very safe to say that there’s going to be a ton of shake up this off season between coaches and players headed to other schools.

Getting to be like Ol' Faithful on here with people hearing things but then not being able to say what they heard for some reason, eh?

If he wants to be a head coach, he will have offers. However, if I am Johnson Central, I ask him to be the DC for them.

I look for Paintsville to be open also . Maybe he goes there but they would probably run him off from there too .

Maybe he could recruit Pburg successfully and follow the plan of success at Pville…..
