I knew this one would be close and Belfry would be tested after watching Letcher film. A good game to go into the playoffs. Barring a miracle Rockcastle will go to Pond Creek in 2 weeks and this game was a good preparation for that one. Fun game to watch.

Letcher played a really good game especially on offense. They dropped a pass in the end zone to take the lead with under a minute to go. Holbrook Letchers QB had a fantastic game with 5 touchdowns

Congratulations to Belfry and this game should not have even been close undoubtedly Belfry has a lot to work on

Defensively, Belfry was lost from the jump. Unenthusiastic, unfocused and asleep at the wheel. Gotta hope they get healthy real soon. Missing a few kids that hopefully will provide some support and on field leadership.
offensively…The Belfry run game was back on full display. LCC goes 10-11 in the box…and FB and 2nd back just completely befuddled LCC in the second half. Austin, Woolum and Varney moved like a well oiled machine as they fought off a 14 point deficit to get back into it.
last thing I will say is about the officiating. Something has to give. While I know the shortages are real…..the talent pool is at a toxically low level. I didn’t think they could get worse than what went on last week in Stanton. Tonight was real close. If you’re gonna be on the field, you have to have a clear understanding of the rules you are to enforce and apply. Very disappointing to say the least. Hope and pray that crew will not be active during the playoffs.

I watched this game on (not so good and needs work) live stream. So I don't know if I saw everything correctly.
Letcher's QB #7 executed their game plan perfectly, faking the hand off to the back long enough to pull the linebackers up and hit the short, quick pass across the middle to, I think, a tight end. By doing that, he pulled the DBs up and would then drop some long passes to #18 for TDs. Made Belfry's defense look really bad for 3 quarters. It seemed Belfry figured out a few things in the 4th quarter and played better.
Belfry had no offensive pass protection. If they did, I think, the QB #3 would have had a big passing night. Letcher had nobody back even 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. The O-line needs to work on that.
Belfry's running game is fun to watch. #2 never gives up even though he's already ran the ball 30 times. He's like the Energizer Bunny of running backs. It looks like he never gets tired. #11 runs hard and hits those outside corners on the option really fast. In the 3rd quarter, I watched Little number #10 make 2 (back to back) runs for probably a total of 90 yds and 2 TDs (1- 20+ and 1- 60+) at a critical time. Even the QB is a good runner on the option.
I had watched Letcher improve over the year, especially the last 4 weeks, thought they had a good chance to beat Belfry. I was right.....

Wonder why Belfry never went to the pistol spread offensively. It allowed Letcher to put all their guys on defense in the box.

Good win in the final week of the season for the Pirates!
Is it just me or does it seem like most of the great mountain programs (Belfry, JC, Corbin, Pikeville) are failing in a pretty major way on the defensive side of the ball this season? Seems pretty concerning for them trying to make it past the 3rd and 4th rounds this year relying only on high powered offense.
I feel like the Dudcats are the team to beat in the mountains this year based solely on their ability to play defense.

When letcher got to the 5 yard line with a minute to go I thought they had it. A holding penalty pushed them back to 15 and then on 4th down they get a WR open in the end zone with a perfect pass just fall through WR hands. A tough loss for the cougars but they played their hearts out. Letcher young sophomore QB really has played great football for the last 4 weeks. I look for big things in the future from him.
