LCA 25 RACELAND 13
#1
Final from Lexington.

We have gotten beyond our moral victory stage. Last night is a game we not COULD have won. But SHOULD have won or had been within ear shot of winning. True we had zero ability to contain their speed. But we had the damn ball for almost 35 minutes of game time, had the ball inside their 5 twice, inside their 20 another, and were driving with chunk plays in LCA territory when a chop block call put us at 1st and 25. Reminded me a lot of the Ashland games went back and forth. For the first time this year, we looked young, immature and a little intimidated by the team on the other sideline. I didn’t expect to see that, especially out of our defense.

That’s the negatives. The positives? I think LCA is the 2nd best team we have played this year and are definitely the fastest team we have played this year. We looked a lot better offensively last night than we did against Ashland, Highlands. LCA, Pikeville, and Letcher Co. big improvement with the offense. Would have liked to see more of Ison in the wildcat. But I know he wasn’t exactly 100% coming into the game. We should have been more competitive last night on the score board. Had our chances. But we didn’t capitalize. LCA has the speed and skill at all positions to make a run in 2A. But they gotta get their discipline in line before that will happen.

I agree with that assessment. After the first quarter I thought we were going to get blown out. After that they settled down they gave the LCA defense all they wanted. This was a game that was 2 stops on the goal line away from being a Raceland victory. LCA did what they had to do to get the win so hats off to them. I heard an unofficial stat that we were dead even in total yards at 358. Other than the scoreboard this was a very evenly played game.

The team speed for LCA was unreal and they ran by the defense. Raceland’s best defense last night was surprisingly the offense. We had good long sustained drives that ate up a lot of clock and pounded the ball down their throats.

This was a game that Raceland could have won but it came down to not making the plays that needed to be made on the goal line. My only gripe about anything from this game was the drive right before halftime on 4th and goal when we were called short. On film it looked like he scored and even the LCA announcers said that was a questionable call. That score would have sent us to halftime down 13-7 and could have changed the whole landscape of the game. But it is what it is.

Overall though this was a great game for both teams to prepare for the playoffs. LCA has a good looking team but as was said above they have some discipline issues was can hurt them down the road if they face a team like Beechwood or Mayfield.

Inside their 5 3 times. Remember…..we had to score three times to get credit for one. Our kids played their butts off last night and got screwed. You always in a high school game get questionable calls but last night was criminal in my book. We had 400 yards of offense and time of possession was like 33 to 14 minutes
