LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - There will be six high school state championship football games in Kentucky next year instead of four under a plan passed Monday by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
The vote by the association's Board of Control marks the state's biggest football realignment in about 30 years.
However, a committee of the board voted to consider to recount enrollment numbers in two years. The original plan had called for a recount in four years.
Some schools could be switched to different divisions, depending on their enrollment figures.

I absolutely hate this change. I think it waters down each class too much and it causes long travel times for many teams.

Don't sleep on Morgan County. They've been consistently improving even if they did lose their opener to Rowan this season.

I think this new alignment will be good for High School football it may take everyone time to adjust. I also like the idea of 5 team districts it will give schools a chance to play new opponents and start or renew old rivalries
08-26-2006, 06:18 PM
it will be great...before the way it was their was just to large of a difference between a small 3A school and a Large 4A school. KY has grown in size of population so it was something well over due.....

I have to disagree with that statement. Our population doesn't constitute 6 classes of football. Ohio only has 6 classes of football with a statewide population of about 11.44 million. Kentucky only has a population of around 4.1 million. Each class will only have about 40 teams. That means that 25% of the state will be ranked in "The Top Ten" when split between their respective divisions.

Good point!! Do you know the the population of Ohio was when they switched to 6 classes? Maybe it was done with the future in mind?

there is good and bad about this new class scheme the 4A is where the change was needed and thats where most of it happened eventhough Lynn Camp got screwed on travel time but there is no reason we shouldn't win the district every year now i think its a great alternative to the public private split

BFritz Wrote:This is incredibly stupid.... I didn't think there was any way in hell it would passWell I suppose there are some smart people making the decisions, all of them cannot be "stupid." The people making the decisions are not in the positions they are in because they are ignorant. There is a reason for this and I am sure they did what is best in their educated opinions.

I Cant Wait To See The Standings In Each District Next Year
08-30-2006, 05:57 PM
I'm excited to see this change
09-03-2006, 02:16 AM
i think this change will mess up the rivalrys and it is a very bad idea... it will extende the amount of distances people will have to travel.... and also it will make some teams be outclassed in the teams they have to play.... i am gonne hate this change
09-04-2006, 01:55 AM
i think it is a good change it will now give some other schools a chance to go to state now and maybe we can see some new rivarlrys out of it.

There will be new rivalries because of this, it is not the end of the world as we know it!
