What exactly does the current NFHS Rule Book say about the Running Clock rule?
#1
Can a current licensed KHSAA Football referee post exactly what the Rule Book and/or Case Manual says about a Running Clock.

I've seen the Running clock start at 35 points and at 36 points.... which is it?
If you can't post the Rule, Section & Article from the current NFHS Rule Book or from a KHSAA provision, then please don't post what you've heard through the grapevine.

Also, can a current licensed KHSAA Football referee post exactly what the Rule Book and/or Case Manual say about shortening the length of the quarters.
Again, if you can't post the Rule, Section & Article from the current NFHS Rule Book or from a KHSAA provision, then please don't post what you've heard through the grapevine.

Most officials this day in age do whatever the losing team asks... Franklin County's middle school team and highschool team has played some of the shortest games I have ever seen. Opposing coaches asking for all kinds of things. Shortened quarters, shortened half times. continuous clock requests in 14 pt games.. etc.

That's the exact reason for this post.... there doesn't seem to be uniformity across the state with this rule.

The only armor that Officials have are the current editions of the NFHS Rule Books & Case Manuals for the various sports.  The Running Clock is one part of the Rule Book that the state needs to be consistent with.

Found this on KHSAA
RUNNING CLOCK PROVISIONS

This point differential applies to all football contests. The National Federation’s Football Rules Committee has a provision in the playing rules that permits state associations to adopt a “running clock” when a point differential is attained. This provision is in place for all football-playing schools for all levels in Kentucky:

Any time the score differential reaches thirty-five (35) points or more, the following changes will be made regarding rules determining when the clock will be stopped and/or started. In addition, in keeping with the rules that allow for mutual agreement between coaches for period shortening, the running clock may be implemented at any time by mutual agreement of the coaches. Coaches’ choice may not supersede the automatic provisions with a 35-point differential.

This is good to see.

Yea its really bad. These officials just want to get out as fast as possible,  meanwhile people are trying to actually enjoy the game, work younger players, etc..

So, there actually IS uniformity - they're following the rules.
National lets each state make THEIR rules.
In VA, the running clock rules say AFTER halftime (but that's not always the case) AND it can be skipped if both coaches agree.
And diff. clock operators have their own rules on if the clock stops after a score or not.
As long as a coach doesn't complain, the refs are fine with it.

When it gets really tough is at the MS level. It’s hard to get younger guys reps with an 8 minute running clock. We have seen it start from the beginning and seen it start at 25 this year. Very frustrating. Basketball was bad to. Had several games that the clock only stopped for called timeouts.

Different clock operators having their own rules about stopping the clock after a score is not uniformity..... Not trying to argue, but that is crazy.
If both coaches agree to shorten the game in any fashion, an announcement needs to be made so every body knows what's going on.

^^^this. I’ve ran clock in basketball and football countless times and I have been bashed and yelled at more times than I can count because of stoppages or lack there of. When all I was doing was what I was told lol.

I hate the running clock!!! Always have, always will. Bury it along with ghost runners and pitch clocks in MLB.
